It's getting hotter

I haven't read the manga. Just been watching the anime. The episode is filled with great animation and amazing action set pieces. The first half of the episode is focused mostly on Tokito and Kanroji, but the latter part shifts to Tanjiro and Nezuko and that's where the episode picks up the pace in my opinion. All the theories one ever had about Tanjiro and his inheritance take a step forward in this episode. Nezuko plays a role too. Tanjiro has always been an apprentice so far in the series, taking a back seat to the likes of Rengoku and Tengen but this time he has to take on an Upper Rank by himself. It may not be the payoff episode but it keeps the intrigue and then adds some. A worthy addition to my favorite anime series!

Flashes of Hinokami
rxckne8 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Things are escalating as Mitsuri and Muichiro have officially entered the mix. Tokito is now encountering the upper 5 demon and it's seeming to not be an easy task at all, which seems about right considering these demons have been in place for hundreds of years. Mitsuri helped out some of the important sword-smiths and she'll likely be aiding Tanjiro or hopefully Tokito soon enough. Also her whip sword looks sick. Knowing most hashiras have the basic sword it's great to see others have some variety with their weapons similar to Tengen's blades, and I'm excited to see what she does more with her weapon and her other breathing techniques as well as Muichiro's. (that's if he doesn't drown in that bubble lol)

But to get into the final minutes of the episode, WHAT A MOMENT. This was easily the most resembling scene to the Hinokami scene in season 1 when Tanjiro battled Rui, but now the stakes are so much higher and we've learned so much more. We saw the flashes Tanjiro gave Daki though Muzan's memories that was caused by the man we saw in episode 1 who's an ancestor of the Kamado bloodline, which likely means that he holds the Sun Breathing technique as well as Tanjiro. And at first I thought it was Tanjiro's own father but it seems those memories were from the man that we saw in Tanjiro's flashbacks. And we've now learned that this is the one man who was actually able to corner Muzan and get close to beheading him. Which adds even more sense to Muzan wanting Tanjiro dead as he's terrified of his family. It's so tough because the guy in the flashback looks exactly like Yoriichi, who looks EXACTLY like the upper 1 demon Kokushibo. And even if they are not the same person, one thing I know for sure is they have to be in the same bloodline and correlated in some way. And if they are then that adds to the question of why Muzan recruited upper 1 and why did upper 1 accept becoming a demon?

It seems that Nezuko's blood demon art helps Tanjiro exceptionally well when he goes into his full fire technique where the scar on his head goes full on red, similar to when he chopped off Gyutaro's head. He nearly died then but was healed by Nezuko's blood demon art, but now that his sword has Nezuko's blood on it Tanjiro is able to withstand the pain which makes him a terrifying opponent as we clearly just saw. I'm not sold that the upper 4 demons are dead, and it seems that the blue one had a trump card of some sort and maybe transformed into Genya's body? Not entirely sure but I'm not sold that they're done yet, and things are just heating up.

Also I hope that later this season Inosuke and Zenitsu eventually show up. I think the seasons been great without them so far but it's not the same without the trio and I think it would be a great reveal for Tanjiro to be in a life or death situation of some sorts and they both come to save him similar to how Tengen saves Tanjiro in season 2.

But nonetheless seeing Tanjiro have that moment again was beautiful and huge props to ufotable for making another great moment, and I'm assuming there will be many more to come as we haven't even reached the halfway point of season 3.

Dragon Sun Halo 🐉🔥

Warning: Spoilers
This episode was already a 9 with a great moment from Mitsuri and great moment (albeit disturbing) moment with Tokito. What makes this a 10/10 tho was Tanjiro's epic Dragon Sun Halo attack that absolutely destroyed 3/4 of the upper four in the blink of a eye. I can not describe the amount of chills I got from that scene. It really feels like for tanjiro this was his biggest moment as a character so far and will be his first major step for taking down Muzan. Also to top it off the episode ended on a great cliffhanger that has me itching for next week's episode. A top 3 Demon slayer episode with one of the most badass moments i've ever seen in a anime!! Thank you Ufotable!!!

The God-tier animation just gets better...

Warning: Spoilers
It's pretty ridiculous how Ufotable keeps outdoing themselves. We're not even half-way through the season yet and already get one of the best looking action sequences this series has ever had. The music, sound design of the blade slashes, and story beats during the fights sync together great in this episode and give us exactly what we want when we came to watch demon slayer.

Interesting to see how quickly Tokito is developing after a few short encounters with Tanjiro. I expect we'll see more of his backstory "unlock" as the fights progress.

Mitsuri's entrance was simple, but engaging. Really hope we see all 3 of our main characters styles used together at some point during the fights.

This blew me away!

I am still trying to process just how incredible this episode was in terms of action and especially.. ANIMATION!! Last episode was obviously just a break before this incredible episode which had numerous amazing moments!

Great to see Love Hashira in qction, giving us a foretaste of what to expect! Amazing fluid animation!! However the best animation is when Tanjiro really gets into action!! INCREDIBLE! I was blown away!! We are only at episode 5 and we get such crazy things already! The bar has been set high!! Gave me "Hinokami"-vibes! Incredible display of an.. explosion of colours!

Ufotable is really flexing their budget this season!

Eye catching animation
jackalvin8 May 2023
Episode 5, showcases Ufotable's prowess in animation once again.

The animation of the Sun Halo Dragon was truly remarkable, with a blend of captivating colors, intricate animation styles, brilliant lighting, and an outstanding color grading effect. The implementation of the glowing blurry effect added another dimension to the dragon's animation, making it more mesmerizing. The animation quality demonstrates the studio's commitment to detail, effort, and artistry.

Overall, this ten-star-worthy episode reaffirms Ufotable's position as one of the best animation studios in the industry. Indeed, this episode is certainly worth the week-long wait for devoted fans of Demon Slayer.

Phenomenal piece of action and entertainment!
moritzherz8 May 2023
Demon Slayer is not known for its mind blowing writing or for its complex characters. Its biggest stength lies in the action and animation.

We are well into season three's first big fight and it is as satisfying as usual. Piece by piece, week by week, we follow our heroes learning more about their enemies and slowly but steadily they make progress in killing them. While this sometimes may be a bit too repetitive, most of the time it works pretty well.

When Tanshiro is fighting an upper rank demon you feel its power and that it will not be easy, because it literally takes epiaodes to beat it. This is a great way to make fights realistic and satisfying.

I am looking forward to see the next part of it!
