VERY funny episode
alexanderelwood23 August 2023
"The White Room" is one of the more surreal chapters of OMITB, which Steve Martin utilizes to his comedic advantage. While nowhere near the deepest or most daring episode the series has to offer, I would argue that it is one of the more purely funny ones. That's not to say it doesn't move the mystery forward, it just isn't quite at the forefront. The core trio's chemistry is irresistible as ever and continues to score consistent laughs. Plus, it was nice to see Andrea Martin finally get a chance to shine here. The surprises, while not jaw-dropping, still raise questions that I'm very excited to have answered later this season. "The White Room" is another solid addition to OMITB's repertoire.

P. S. The only slight missed opportunity was that I wish this episode had included the song "White Room" by Cream. It's not essential. Just would've been neat.

Where is the murder investigation?
harineem-209-52548825 August 2023
I loved the first season, the second season kind of twisted itself in the end. But both seasons stuck to the main premise of the murders in the building being investigated.

Here it looks like "Only theatrics in the building". This is the fourth episode and all we have till now, is how Martin Short is trying to revive his play into a musical and how Steve Martin is struggling to perform.

The murder investigation and podcast has become a side story which barely gets 5 mins in all this white room nonsense. Yes its good acting but I didn't sign up for the experience of what happens in Broadway and what theatre actors experience. It was how three people crack murders in the building and we are not seeing any progress on that front at all in this season.

I love this show, but this season is less cozy.
jecciandris-2424325 August 2023
This is one of my all-time favorite shows. There are just a lot of things I miss this season. I would love to see Ursula, Lester, Nina, Theo, and more people from the building. I'd also like to see the building itself more. I loved the building tenants' meeting from season 1 and the historical opening of the building of the Arconia in the 1900s from season 2. Over the years we got to see the apartments of Tim Kono, Jan, Howard, Bunny, Teddy, Nina...now we have so many fewer little cozy apartments. That microcosm feeling isn't really there for me as much.

Maybe I'm just not a fan of musical theater. It feels like they're rehearsing for something and I miss my show.

PS Andrea Martin still reminds me of Aunt Voula from My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Classic.

Steve Martin is GOLD
mlsiharath26 August 2023
Oh man! Steve Martin absolutely KILLS in this episode (not literally, mind you, just flexing his comedic abilities all over the place). We were crying from laughing so hard at the "Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It" white room sequences. And it absolutely did move the story along, so the naysayers should just sit back and enjoy the ride. I'm glad they're incorporating more musical aspects to fit in with Martin Short's character arc. With the Bob Fosse number at the start, to Meryl Streep's beautiful song a few episodes ago, this season is all about creativity while still focusing on the murders that occurred at the Arconia.

Their writers are fabulous!

Steve M. at His Best
Hitchcoc26 August 2023
Steve Martin's character is at the center of this episode, although the others are also quite wonderful. The White Room is a fictional place stage actors go to when they freeze on stage. Martin has a silly little song to sing in the play, and he is so panicked when he does it, he slips into the White Room. When he awakens, he has done some ludicrous thing and finds that he has embarrassed himself. Tina Faye gets back into the act with Mabel as they try to sort out the killer of the obnoxious actor. The one they suspected is not the one. She is selling products, using the theater where the guy died. The murder case seems secondary at the moment. But watch this to see what a comic genius Steve Martin.

Living alone is better

Warning: Spoilers
So we still continue to gather info about the death of this actor. I didnt really enjoyed that time when Charles go into the white room and become weird. Too much explicit and i wanted something more deep or related to the psychological part than a comedy moment that lead to an unbelievable situation and a comedy that become a little bit too much. So yeah the young asian women was just a mislead and now we have a new suspect: the person who live with Charles. Mable make us see a new character and she propose her a job with a nice amount of money but she refused. I love also how dirty she talked about her genital and make her pretty authentic about who she is. A nice episode anyway with some moments where comedy make us a little bit overwheilmed sadly. But the investigations and the new clues make us interested again and curious.

Episode 304

Warning: Spoilers
It seemed like the show was off to a good start this season, but they're clearly losing touch of reality and things continue to just go off the rails. This wasn't funny and took way too many unnecessary detours.

There are few things less funny in TV or movies than the scene where a character gets high, but it looks like scenes in "the white room" may be there. An unexpected and unwanted marriage proposal feels so beneath the show at this point.

And we know now it is not going to be one of the big name guest or recurring stars as the killer, so what is even the point of the mystery anymore? I don't know.

Love Hulu for this show

Warning: Spoilers
In Only Murders in the Building Season 3 Episode 3, Oliver and Loretta's relationship was a healthy one, as they built each other up and saw the great things in each other that the world fails to see. However, Episode 4 revealed the wrong reasons for Charles and Joy's relationship, highlighting red flags that should be on the lookout for. These red flags include language, demeanor, interests, and pets, such as Charles' obsession with fish. The couple had been going out for at least a year, and it was surprising that Charles didn't know Joy was obsessed with fish. Moving in together is excellent for being close to someone, but it can also be the poison to that love. Some love is best suited when people are far from each other, and Charles and Joy's relationship was one of them. Joy, an outgoing character, can be overwhelming to some, as seen in Charles' decision to move in. Andrea Martin shines in the episode, showcasing her character in Only Murders in the Building Seasons 1 and 2. Joy's role is central to Charles' life and Ben's murder, as he faces stress from a meaningless part in Oliver's production. In Only Murders in the Building Season 3, Mabel, Charles, and Oliver struggle with their cohesion in solving murders. Oliver's leading man dies, and they search for potential suspects. Charles, who had always had stage fright, must join them to find the killer, as the faster they do so, the faster their production can resume. They focus on Kimber, who initially doesn't believe her as the killer based on wobbly evidence. However, her words point in a new direction, highlighting an intersection between the writers and the audience. The episode revealed Joy's obsession with Charles, a star she only saw on her makeup table on a blue moon. She had worked as a makeup artist for a long time and was infatuated with Charles, who was not the friendliest with people during his peak of fame. Joy had waited for a long time and finally got her chance. Like many obsessed fans, there are no limits to what they can do to protect the object of their affection. Ben had a fraught relationship with most cast members, including Charles. Joy vowed to protect Charles by her own words. Kimber revealed that an experienced makeup artist had covered up Ben's mark. Joy's red lipstick was the final nail, and if she is the killer, Charles might be attracted to another woman romantically. Dickie is the strongest alternative, apart from Joy. The episode of Only Murders In the Building has excellent humor, with the top three funniest moments coming from Oliver's insulting Charles. Oliver's ability to deliver insults quickly makes it easy for people to move on, making the episode a fun and entertaining watch. The episode also highlights the importance of humor in solving murder cases. OMITB's success is attributed to its ability to repeat patterns in its episodes, with efficient storytellers recognizing the urgency of evolving dynamics. This is evident in episode 4, where the show introduces a lovable character to fill a gap for Mabel's problems and introduces a new suspect immediately. The seamless segues allow for ample insights into the protagonists. The unexplored issue of Charles and Oliver's loneliness is finally revealed in episode 4, with the creative expression of the white room and subtle humour remaining classy. The show's ability to adapt to evolving dynamics and maintain a balance of intrigue is a testament to its success. Charles, a former hairdresser, moves in with his friend Oliver, causing him to feel a change in his life. However, his anxiety is a ruse as he performs a "patter song" for Oliver, which he finds a way around by making an omelette. Oliver asks him not to do this, and Charles descends into the "white room," a limbo where actors go when they lose themselves and blackout. Mabel, the only focused individual, wants to expedite their investigation and confirm a theory that Kimber poisoned Ben over their affair using her anti-ageing serum. They find Kimber in one of the dressing rooms and meet her. Mabel struggles with Kimber's focus and hardworking nature, as she runs her cosmetics business and builds her loyal online community. During their chit-chat, Mabel struggles with Kimber's focus and hardworking nature, as she also has her own cosmetics business and a loyal online community. Kimber reveals that she did not have an affair with Ben and wanted him to endorse her serum online, but he backed out at the last minute after promising to help.

Charles' girlfriend again?
santipe-9067025 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Mabel meets Cinda, Oliver asks Loretta out, and Charles suffers from blackouts that lead him to propose to his girlfriend Joy, who might be the killer.

We find out that Kimber wasn't in the dressing room with Ben, and she apparently sold her hanky on eBay, so she isn't much of a suspect anymore. On the other hand, Joy is a suspect now, because her lipstick was used to write something in Ben's mirror. She mentioned to Charles that she would have been willing to hurt Ben if he did something to him. Since we are not even 5 episodes into the season, I highly doubt Joy actually killed Ben.

These blackouts that haunt Charles are a little suspicious. Maybe he was having them around the time of the opening night and had one before the premiere (and poisoned Ben without realizing it) or even after (and pushed Ben unknowingly).

Howard is getting a lot of screen time this season, which makes me wonder if he could be a suspect. After all, unlike the previous murders, both poisoning and pushing someone down an elevator hole don't involve dealing with blood (he passes out when he sees blood, which made him an unlikely killer on seasons 1 and 2). Maybe he wanted the producers to step down so his cousin from the state farm would be the new producer (he's been very pushy about that).

Overall, not much happened this episode, though I had fun with Charles'; attempts at 'singing'.

The White Room
Prismark1031 October 2023
The White Room is an enjoyable detour as it examines Charles neurosis and stage fright.

Having to perform a patter song during rehearsals. Charles is anxious and ends up frazzled. The others tell him he has entered the white room, a place where actors on stage go when they freeze.

Mable enters her own white room when she looks for a new apartment in New York. The clinical antiseptic kind and it is not her style.

Charles problems might stem from something more than doing a rap style song. Joy has moved in with him and Charles is uncomfortable with a new housemate.

Mable is uncomfortable when podcaster Cindy Canning shows up with a new lucrative proposal. The kind that would be useful when looking for a new apartment in New York.

The murder mystery was secondary. The trio have an early suspect with Kimber who sells anti ageing products on Tik Tok as a sideline but she looks like a red herring.

Enjoyable enough, funny in places and that is more to do with Steve Martin.
