Fun episode
eoinageary26 August 2023
So another week another episode, this is definitely better than last week for sure,

Lazlo seems to be in a broody mood, he is saying nothing bar thank you and paying attention to nothing, the vamps get together to try and roast Lazlo to cheer him up but the night goes haywire when the baron finds out what truly happened him a few years ago.

A fun episode that starts light and then we get a CHASE scene and some good vampire scenes which I loved, there was a few minutes of cat and mouse which I also liked and overall I enjoyed the "vampire" side of this episode a lot, I know this is a light fun show but sometimes I miss the vampireness of the older seasons too, still good.

Still delivering
GabrielSymes31 August 2023
As we approach the end of season five, nothing much has changed in terms of characters, set, and overall themes. They are drifting in a slightly more crude direction, it has to be said. But it is still delivering. If you liked season one, then you will have five full seasons to enjoy. Quite a remarkable feat.

This episode differs slightly in that they reintroduce a predictably over-the-top vampire character. This shifts the focus away from the main cast briefly. The story does not really work, it's based on a stupid idea, but it is great fun. Relentless as usual. Binge and you will likely get bored, it's better as an occasional punctuation mark in the weekly schedule.

disappointing but with some redeeming qualities

Warning: Spoilers
Aw cmon, a roast of Lazlo that doesn't focus on Lazlo? What a missed opportunity for some signature crazy humor. And it didn't really explain what was wrong with Lazlo either.

On the other hand, Doug Jones got a chance to really show his stuff. I love that after all the roles he's had playing aliens, mermen, vampires (before this) etc in heavy makeup, he gets a chance to perform like a regular actor. And he's great at it, too.

But they are really stretching out the Guillermo plotline, aren't they? With just two episodes to go in the season, it's time to move this forward. He can't fully become a vampire because of the Van Helsing muck in his blood. Let's just get to it, okay?

Finally, please find something for The Guide to do other than be an obnoxious Gilligan type character whose role is to stupidly say the wrong thing at the wrong time. Ugh. It would be better just to drop her from the show if that's all she's good for.

Great show, dragging on plot

Warning: Spoilers
This entire season has felt like episode by episode they have no idea what to do or where they are headed.

In the past, every episode felt good and solid. It was making beats towards a story or fleshing out the world.

With the entire of season 5 with Guillermo being a vampire, we have gotten multiple episodes that have kept the plot exactly the same: Nandor has no idea and Guillermo has no powers.

At the very least they could've given subplots of Guillermo exploring his powers and having to hide them but no. This episode does feature small bits but it still feels like Guillermo is a super-powered familiar vs a burgeoning vampire.

I hope for this show's sake they can land it hard in the next two episodes or I am going to stop anticipating new episodes then binging them when the season is over. I would love if this show made me excited to see what was next rather than feeling let down that the plot hasn't advanced & nothing is new.

The Roast

Warning: Spoilers
I have no idea what has happened to What We Do in the Shadows. This show used to be funny and we got almost no moments that were funny here.

Matt Berry is a gifted actor and him dedicating almost the entire episode to being dismissive and ignoring everyone was the kind of commitment only he could pull off. The roast was a decent idea, but then everything with The Baron happened and the bad chase scenes are just really dumbed down comedy.

This episode absolutely felt like a chore to get through and I do not really know how the show is going to get back on track from here. Hopefully it can end on a high note.
