There’s no surprise that new K-dramas are released every month, as the demand for them is quite high. However, the bar is already set so high that after yet another excellent series it seems that there is not a chance for the new show to beat the existing ones. But guess what? Almost all of them manage to do it!
2024 started off great for new K-dramas, especially for fans of South Korean dramas who loved the recent show on Netflix, Hierarchy, that follows a drama which unfolds at the most prestigious school in South Korea.
However, there are 5 other shows released this year that are definitely worth watching.
1. Lovely Runner
One of the best shows of 2024 is undoubtedly Lovely Runner. The adorable romantic comedy follows Ryu Seon Jae, a top celebrity whose life only seems so perfect. In reality, the demanding nature of the entertainment industry has left him completely exhausted.

In the Netflix series Hierarchy, we see how students at Jooshin High School suffer from class divisions based on their family status. Here we often see how rich kids are bound to be snobbish, full of attitude, and think they are better than everyone else. As they belong to rich families, they get special treatment from both students and teachers. They are taken care of, protected, and even respected more than the teachers themselves. This is a pretty common practice, and everyone, from rich kids to scholarship students, is used to it. However, not all rich kids proudly wear the tag of being school royalty. Some are just tired of all the consequences that come with this status. There’s too much responsibility and an uncalled-for attitude they have to carry. Because of this reason, these kids often forget how to lead a normal life. A perfect example of this is Jeong Jae-i,...

Hierarchy is the latest K-drama that takes us into the intense world of high school politics in Jooshin High School. Our story revolves around a student named Kang Ha, who is attending the school on a scholarship. Now, being a scholarship kid in this elite school is nothing to be proud of—it brings both disrespect and shame from the rich students. But Kang Ha? He walks around with a big smile, proudly embracing his scholarship status! But there’s more to Kang Ha than meets the eye. On the outside, he seems like a sweet, innocent kid. However, his true motive is much darker. He’s here for one reason: revenge. Kang Ha’s brother, In-Han, was also a scholarship student who faced brutal bullying and humiliation from the wealthy kids. Tragically, this led to In-Han’s death. Now, Kang Ha is determined to make those responsible pay for...

It’s often talked about how schools are like microcosms of society. They teach us how to deal with the real world! I recently watched another Korean series called Pyramid Game, and it really showed how some kids get better privileges, whether it’s because they’re rich or because they’re good at academics. No matter the reason, some get more advantages than others. This same theme is super clear in the new Netflix Korean series Hierarchy. The hierarchy is so vivid! The rich kids have the upper hand, and the scholarship kids are always at their mercy. The principal of Jooshin High School knows about all the torment and humiliation but stays silent. Why? Because she believes that it’s thanks to the school’s owner, the Jooshin Group, and the other wealthy families, that the scholarship kids even have a chance to study there. They might get to study abroad later,...

The new Netflix series Hierarchy is set in one of Korea’s most prestigious schools, Jooshin High School. We can see how the school has this intense divide between the “royalty” and the scholarship kids. The royalty are the kids from super-rich families, like Kim Ri-an from the family that owns the school, Jooshin Group, and siblings Jeong Jae-i and Jung Jae Hyeok from the prestigious Jaeyul Group. On the other hand, you’ve got the scholarship kids, who get to attend this elite school only because the rich families decided to be “generous.”
Spoilers Ahead
The rich kids act like they own the place, treating the school, the students, and even the teachers and principals as if they’re their personal staff. But things take a dark turn by the end of the series—Jung Jae Hyeok ends up dead! Can you believe it? There’s a lot to unpack here.

You know, catching up with a post or end credit scene on Netflix is like watching sand slip through your fingers. I mean, the streaming platform itself doesn’t want you to watch that small clip hiding in the end. But thank God, a peer told me about this tiny post-credit scene in Hierarchy, which I know I had missed like most of you. So, what’s it all about? [Spoiler Alert] In the clip, we saw Yoon He-ra stumble upon the body of a fellow student soaked in blood in the classroom. By the way, the blood looks extremely tacky. I really took it for water paint or something for a minute.
Nevertheless, the face of the presumably “dead” person isn’t clearly visible, which, sorry to say, was exactly the reason I wanted to write this “thin” article. So moving forward, as soon as He-ra screamed at the top of her lungs,...

Netflix has made one massive change in the K-drama industry. Up until a few years ago, it was unheard of for a K-drama to have more than one season. However, with the influx of Western media patterns (not only in terms of multiple seasons but in the content the industry produces too), there’s been many popular shows with multiple seasons. Even Squid Game returns this December after a long wait. However, what’s odd is that the high-school drama Hierarchy is meant to be a limited series, so why then does it have a post-credit scene, and why does it set us up for another season? So, though there’s no announcement for a second season as of now, here’s my meager attempt at breaking down all the hints the showmakers attempt to give us about another season. Personally, I’ll be happy if the show is one-and-done...

Netflix has had a fair amount of success with its outlandish and unrealistic teen high school dramas in recent times, starting with Elite and its various other versions throughout the world, like Blood & Water or Class. It was, therefore, only a matter of time that another addition of the kind was made in the already popular South Korean market, and the inevitable has finally arrived in the form of Hierarchy. The plot in this seven-episode series follows a new scholarship student named Kang Ha at Korea’s most prestigious institution, Jooshin High School. But Kang Ha’s presence quickly stirs up a recent mystery, and matters of blackmail and past secrets soon crop up. There is hardly anything unique or topical in Hierarchy by its end, and it can be enjoyed only by fans of high school dramas.

If you’re going into Hierarchy expecting a rush of emotions and a high-speed narrative that’ll keep you guessing, then I’ll tell you right off the bat: don’t bother watching it. The series, meant to be the Korean version of Elite, doesn’t even live up to older K-dramas that explore similar themes in a much more engaging manner. Hierarchy is plain boring, and there’s simply nothing that makes the ending worth the 7-episode wait. Hierarchy tells the story of a 17-year-old boy named Kang-Ha, who is a new scholarship student at an elite school in South Korea, obviously considered the best school there; however, there’s a morbid motive behind Kang-Ha’s presence at the school—revenge. Now, when you hear this premise, you’re thinking, I’ve already seen a dozen shows like this, or that this sounds rather interesting despite it being a...

The Netflix original Hierarchy falls quite short in comparison to its predecessors in school dramas. I’m not sure why the “Makjang” drama’s narrative is handled the way it is, but it truly fails to impress. We’ve had a dozen school K-dramas before this about the same topic of high school bullying. Some are incredibly harrowing, some are terrifying, and others are more on the fun side of things. However, Hierarchy seems to not know what it’s really going for. Anyway, the series tells the story of a boy named Kang-Ha who’s recently lost his twin brother, In-han to an accident. He decides to join the same fancy school his brother went to as a scholarship student so he can figure out why the school buried the case and who really killed his brother. Rather than the “eat the rich” approach, this Korean drama classically wants...

What is Hierarchy About?
The series tells the story of Jooshin High School, an esteemed institution dominated by two students: Jeong Jae-i, called the queen, and her boyfriend, Kim Ri-an, labelled the king. Their rule is undisputed until Kang Ha, a scholarship student with a grudge, gets transferred to the school.

The South Korean TV industry is something extremely fast moving. It seems like only a few years ago that the world was introduced to the first K-dramas, and now every month is full of premieres.
And what's important is that you will never find two shows with the same premise. Yes, they can be similar, but they never fail to meet the expectations of the viewers to tell them something new and extremely creative.
Every major streaming platform has its own library of K-dramas, and in order to serve the petty viewer, they add more new stuff, and it makes the subscribers happy.
So all you Netflix fans, guess what! Here are 4 new K-dramas that will be available on the platform in June.
1. Hierarchy, June 6

Currently revelling in the success of recently-uploaded Don Lee-starring film “Badland Hunters” and already teasing the second season of “Squid Game,” Netflix has unveiled a major slate of Korean films and series for 2024.
In August last year, Netflix publicly committed to investing $2.5 billion on Korean content over the next four years. That reflected both Netflix’s position as the country’s leading streamer, with an estimated 6.5 million subscribers, and its adopted role as one of the biggest exporters of Korean film and TV content.
“We were able to make this [investment] decision because we have great confidence that the Korean creative industry will continue to tell great stories,” said the streamer’s co-chief Ted Sarandos at the time of the spending commitment.
