Still spinning its wheels

I want to like this show. Truly.

It's got a talented cast of actors. I find it somewhat humorous that Brad Garrett has joined the cast. Between Lauren Ashe, Nico Santos, and others, it's become this castaway show of actors from previous sitcoms.

But that's not the problem.

The problem I'm finding with this show is that it's mostly no stakes and the plot is usually somewhat boring.

The protagonist can speak to the dead but it's played off now like it's a bad allergy she has to deal with.

So many interesting things could be done with the focal point of the entire show but they just refuse to do anything with it.

For example, in this episode the "conflict" is that the rich clueless paper owner has to deal with her even more clueless rich father. Yawn.

The show itself has a good concept and good actors, I just wish it wouldn't throw all of that aside to be a boring plain "sitcom" in so many of its storylines.

Season 2 so far a complete dumpster fire

I enjoyed season one; it had moments of authenticity and some great storylines and character elements, and they used the main plot device to great effect every episode. It was sometimes fairly formulaic, but at least brought it back around with good writing and good acting to make it overall a human and endearing show.

Within 5 minutes of the first episode of season two, it's very clear that something in the team or situation that made season 1 unexpectedly work, is gone. Clearly they offshored the script, or cheaped out on the production, or just stopped caring after a successful first go. The characters are shells of their former selves, the plot is a train wreck of random events, and there's not an ounce of humanity or purpose to the script or plot.

Pass from here on.

Warning: Spoilers
Not Dead Yet was a fun little show in season one. Rarely laugh out loud funny, but an easy watch and something I looked forward to watching each and every week.

This episode did not really get things going for awhile, and Duncan, the new character did not seem to immediately fit in.

I will give the writers time to get going, given the strike and how it may have expedited the schedule, but this was a little bit underwhelming. Episodes like this give us a painful reminder of why comedies are few and far between on mainstream TV these days, a feat I really hate given this is my preferred genre.
