Once valued along the Drava River, the Croatian hen, also known as "dudica", is making a comeback in modern Croatia. Although its breeding began in the early 20th century, wars and the spread of hybrid breeds almost pushed it into oblivion. However, growers from rural areas are now leading the movement for its revitalization. We follow their passion and dedication to preserving this autochthonous breed, exploring its adaptability, productivity and place in contemporary Croatian society.
