The most boring film in existence.
Joshua_Penczek9 August 2016
Sure, The Slender Man is only 78 minutes long, but the director somehow manages to make it feel like 78 years. In this found-footage camera POV style horror film, absolutely nothing happens. People walk around, people eat, people joke, and in one or two scenes, a tall guy with a white mask shows up and spooks some people. It is truly one of the most boring films you can find. Who are the characters? Unknown. When will they die? Unknown. Where is the title villain? Who knows! There have been a massive slough of Slenderman movies lately, all of them independent and some of them probably never happening because Slenderman is now a washed up fad, but whatever. I saw this because it was free and I ended up wanting him to come find and take me to whatever fictional BS land he takes me, where my organs are ripped out of my body while I'm still alive or whatever that one website claims. Slender man potentially could be a horrifying antagonist, but he needs to kill off all of his rabid fans first and hire good filmmakers and story writers.

Not too bad for a no-budget project
alain-kapel56 April 2013
A solid attempt at making a horror film about an urban legend called Slender Man (first time I heard about it, but it sounds kind of intriguing). I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the special effects used for depicting the Slender Man. Yes, he appears very briefly on screen, but looks well made (this is an extremely low-budget movie, so I wasn't expecting him to appear at all). The rest of the movie was just your standard "found footage" horror, unremarkable and mostly dull, only slightly more interesting toward the end.

Can't say I would recommend this to anyone but hardcore fans of "found footage" horror movies like The Blair Witch Project. It's mostly boring and acting is unconvincing, but considering it's very low production standards, it could have been worse.

not worth your time unless you are a serious slenderman fanatic
flashgordonemail23 August 2014
the slender man as I understand is an urban myth, prior to watching this movie I have watched a series of youtube videos of this phenomenon which attempted to turn a fictional idea into an amateur movie experience. this film adaptation of the urban legend starts off in quite a disorganised way, no real character identification or initiation. I know that in these sorts of films they throw out the rule book in favour of it seeming like found footage. but i'd like it to be pulled together in a better way, you don't really feel anything for the cast, there's nothing where we get to know the people involved.generally I think the found footage style of film needs to evolve, or at least it could evolve. why not take advantage of modern trends, like vloging or mobile phone footage? this movie is part of a horror genre that to me feels like its going a little stale despite apparent high interest. sometimes I feel a lot of these films don't really do much more than what blair witch and the last broadcast did over 10 years ago (these were both great films btw) unlike those films this one fails to build tension as competently. it does provide scares and the odd jump, but not a lot. the script ,acting and story is pretty sub par, the personalities all feel a little flat, there isn't enough mystery, atmosphere and intrigue for my liking and the plot seems to jump about with little cohesion. the only plus side to it that I can identify is the special effects which seem pretty good for a budget film.

The Slender Man: Nooooooooooooooooo!
Platypuschow10 January 2018
Where did it all go wrong? Blast!

Slenderman has limitless potential as a film but after Slender (2016) I started to fear it was potential that would never be met.

The first 15 minutes or so of The Slender Man had me gripped, this was well made and genuinely scary stuff. Truly scary and I don't say that very often.

Then to my horror it all fell apart and this movie which I was beginning to think was going to turn into something special turned into another found footage film and an utter mess.

The plot makes little sense, the pacing is disastrous and all the magic from the start of the film flickers down to nothing.

I believe Slender Man will get a great film one day (Or has one already I haven't seen) this however is not that film.

The Good:

Genuinely scary in places

The Bad:

No rhyme or reason why people are recording most of the time

Poor audio balancing

Incoherent plot

Front cover makes him look like a gothic Koro-sensei

Things I Learnt From This Movie:

If you're going to kidnap children, doing it during the day in the middle of the street seems like a good call

And people think the 2018 one is boring
gageherron18 October 2018
I wanted to die when i was watching this truly terrible movie. It has one of the worst acting out of the FF genre that it was like they were reading their scripts for the first time. People throw slack at the new one but at least that one had the title character in it, unlike this one. I usually give "objectively" bad movies a good score cause of my own tastes and stuff but oh my god was this just terrible!

Don't waste your time...like I did
amandahawkins5 October 2015
So bad. Just really bad. Most of the film was jerky footage of the ground. Much of it was so dark you just couldn't see anything while the camera was bouncing around. The terrible audio composition had me constantly turning it up and down. I get that it's low budget, but did they even try? I'm SO angry that the creators would let anyone waste an hour of their life watching this and waiting for something interesting to happen.

I have been required to put more effort into this review than was put into this entire movie. I did this to save you! Don't let the hour of my life I sacrificed be in vain. Save yourself!

Ha-ha, is this a joke?
Patient44419 May 2014
Of course you have to take in consideration pretty much everything when judging a movie, and first thing that comes to mind is the budget, but even with a micro one, The Slender Man is very bad.

So, the plot, clearly could have been written by a 10 years old who saw some Freddy and Jason movies, it is so weak you won't believe it as it plays along. Characters were cardboard tops, no scares whatsoever, extremely little views of the Slender, very dumb decisions taken throughout the entire movie and one ending that will make you weep.

I had my share of bad found footage, but this one is top 10 worst ones clearly. If the project itself was a hat too big, or it required a decent budget, then don't do this. Don't ruin it for others just so you can put your name on a movie called The Slender Man! It was horrible!

Boring, bad, predictable and sad. Sorry to say so, but this one right here is an bad example of found footage. Cheers!

The Slender Man
a_baron10 December 2016
The value of the dollar may have fallen exponentially over the past hundred years, but that is only half the story. Today, people are walking around with computers in their pockets that would once have required an entire room to generate such power. This means that ordinary people can make excellent quality films and share them through social media, even if they don't make any money out of them.

"The Slender Man" is said to have been made on a budget of $10,000, which is clearly an estimate, and an over-estimate at that. One should therefore not expect too much of it. The character on which it is based is said to have originated only in 2009, although doubtless there are precursors worldwide in various cultures. Leaving all that aside, does this supernatural mystery succeed? To be diplomatic, far worse films have been made on far bigger budgets, but the cast better not give up the day job in the meantime. The same cannot be said for the soundtrack composers though.

Great movie

This goes to show you don't need a huge budget to make quality films! I want to thank everyone involved for giving me somogood to watch for a change. I really can't believe it has such a low rating! Please give it a chance and I think you will enjoy it as much as I did.

Well made low budget horror
blob-9396426 April 2015
I won't say anything about the plot because I think this type of film has more effect if you know nothing about it. I will say this tho, I was scared. I had to watch a lot of it through my fingers. It's very suspenseful and has a few scares. The story is good (i didn't expect much of one) and the acting is pretty decent. The effects of the The Slender Man were pretty surprising for such a low budget film. If you're a fan of Handycam movies then i'm sure this one won't disappoint. It looks very much like the game which also i found rather scary. You only get brief glimpses of The Slender Man but quite often it made me jump. If you're a horror fan like me then i'm sure you'd find it worth a watch.

Take A Closer Look!
samhain648198 October 2018
The Slender Man from 2013 is a no budget, independent, found footage movie about a creepy pasta that a lot of people just don't appreciate. Yes, it has the common problems that found footage has. Yes, the acting and effects aren't good. GET... OVER... IT!!!

For all of the challenges these people faced the overall product is impressive. The story weaves three different perspectives and four different characters together in a fairly smooth and naturally progressive way. The camera is not just a gimic but a nessecary tool for finding the Slender Man that uses digital distortions in the audio and video like radar. The long periods in the pitch black out doors is creepy and unnerving because of the ambient sounds, periods of silence, and a few well placed distortions. Tension does actually build up well in some areas and the fact that the Slender Man appears at random and sometimes with no one noticing him makes it even more scary.

But the best part is that the film makers didn't just retell the story of the Slender Man or rewrite the lore but expanded it. The mythos is well known and easily found, what the Super Movie Bros. did is go further and darker. Incorrporating the idea of desparate parents kidnapping other children to get their own child back adds a new level of horror to the mythos. Imagine how much more sinister the Slender Man becomes when he holds children for ransom and his demands are the children of other people! This is an underrated gem that deserves recognition, 8/10. At the very least, it is a way better attempt than what Madhouse put out.

More than Danny
benhaerr6 June 2021
Good movie with AMAZING CASTING!!!!!!

I felt as the movie was single handily held together by the amazing performance put on by Alex Eads (who played the lovable and spirited Danny). Alex not only pulled at my heartstrings, but brought to surface emotions I didn't even know I had. Throughout his performance in the film, he kept me in suspense with superb acting. He made me feel as if Danny was more than a character on a screen, Alex Eads made me feel as though Danny was my own flesh and blood son.

To summarize-Alex Eads as Danny 12/10 stars.
