All over the place!
ankit-imsnoida1 October 2023
The story starts well and then, falls apart. After a few episodes, one simply loses interest and the screenplay fails to grip you. A few side stories are unnecessary and many plot points are not built properly.

The story digresses many a times from the main plot and when it comes back..you are not as invested. They should have focused more on the 'hiest' and the nuances around it.

The humor is also quite basic and only a few scenes would truly crack you up.

Jimmy Shergill is amazing; although, the character development didn't help him much.

Had a lot of hopes from this series.. although, it didn't turn out to be good.

You can skip this one.

Intriguing but in parts
sanjeevanwar30 September 2023
Anwar Says: A Netflix release, goon turned politician story but with a difference. The main character is delusional as well as follows star, planets and Vaastu. In process, he keeps on creating enemies who plan to carry out a heist in the fortress of Jimmy Shergil aka Calculator Shukla. Pushpendra Nath Mishra has been able to create both humour and intrigue.

Jimmy has been always an underrated actor and worked mostly in B class film. His effortless projection of the character is the key factor, though background narrator Arshad Warsi explained his character more than what he uttered himself. Aashim Gulati is a favourite of Mishraji after Taj and he also did justice to his role and so Namit Das, Chandan Sanyal and Vikram. Use of VR technology is successfully hemmed with the storyline.

Audience would be engaged in most of the time except in some middle episodes. Arshad narrative could have been less , still it is a fun watch. 6 out of 10 from me.

Choona Web Series is a Entertainer. - itsbymayank
mayanklouteriya1 October 2023
Those who are saying bad things about web series.. I may agree but there are many things which are good to watch or I can say entertaining.

A sort and simple words review is below.

Shukla and all characters are good and makes it engaging but after a moment you'll feel its boring just because of it's length of some scenes.

They stretched some scenes like they make the web series boring but shukla's dialogues and it's planetary belief makes it intresting. Heist have many twist and turns.. If you like good work.. Watch it.. I liked it.. Shukla makes story a worth watch a lot.

CHOONA:-thoda sa choona toh humko bhi lagaya
puranjanbasak11 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Choona is a comedy crime drama thriller series directed by pushpendra nath misra.

The acting performances consists of a varying range. Jimmy shergill embodies the cunning, money-hungry politician beautifully. You develop genuine disgust for the character through the running time. Namit das, chandan roy, atul srivastava all give good performances. But ashim gulati, and gyanendra tripathi fail to impress the viewers. They possess too much wayward energy which isn't good for the series.

Now comes the revenge arcs of the characters. The arcs of pandit ji, bishnu, JP yadav, were genuine arcs which imbibe some sympathy. But the arcs of ansari and baankey were unconvincing. Ansari himself is a small time goon, who wants to be a big time good/politician. How can that be a revenge arc's tipping point. Baankey's arc justifies casual police brutality and the ignorance around it. So, police can do whatever they want and normal citizens can only suffer? (Though in this case, shukla is a cunning politician), but rhe point still holds. The screenplay is a hit and a miss. The first few episodes are quite flat and uninteresting. The scenes are stretched beyond eternity. Its inly when the plan ensues that the series picks up its engaging pace. The background music is mid, sometimes running without a point. Arshad warsi's voiceover in every scene is unnecessary and irritating. This shows the lack of confidence of the creator in its audience, that he needs a spoonfeeding vessel. The dialogues are decent enough.

A Stellar Cast and Exceptional Script Execution Make It a Must-Watch
ns-3927310 October 2023
The scriptwriters have masterfully crafted a story that balances drama, humor, and suspense, creating a perfect concoction of emotions that resonates with the viewers. The dialogues are sharp, witty, and impactful, showcasing the writers' understanding of human nature and their ability to capture the essence of complex relationships. The pacing of the story is expertly handled, keeping the audience engaged while allowing the plot to unfold naturally. It's evident that meticulous planning and attention to detail have gone into the writing process, making the series a delightful rollercoaster of emotions.

The strength of "Choona" lies in its diverse and unique characters, each of whom brings their own flavor to the table. From the brooding protagonist to the quirky sidekick, every character is well-developed and multi-dimensional. Their individual story arcs are carefully explored, giving viewers insight into their motivations, fears, and aspirations. This depth of characterization allows the audience to connect with the characters on a personal level, making their triumphs and tribulations all the more impactful. Moreover, the series doesn't shy away from portraying the imperfections of its characters, making them relatable and human.

Another commendable aspect of "Choona" is its great comic timing. Humor is seamlessly woven into the narrative, providing moments of lightheartedness amidst the intense drama. The comedy in the series is organic, arising from the characters' personalities and the situations they find themselves in. The well-timed jokes and witty one-liners not only elicit genuine laughter but also serve to deepen the audience's emotional connection with the characters. The balance between humor and serious themes is struck with finesse, making the viewing experience both entertaining and thought-provoking.

Revenge Heist: An Average OTT Offering with a Familiar Plot
dalalmk-221261 October 2023
In a landscape overflowing with web series, "Revenge Heist" doesn't bring anything particularly new to the table, but it manages to stay afloat in the sea of mediocrity. While it might not be a masterpiece, it's watchable, making it a passable choice for those looking for some typical Bollywood-style drama.

The story revolves around a corrupt politician who has wreaked havoc in the lives of five to six individuals, and they decide to unite and exact revenge by robbing his colossal 800 crore fortune. The heist itself is disappointingly ordinary, lacking those exciting, out-of-the-box moments that we've come to expect from top-notch thrillers. Instead, it relies heavily on tried-and-tested formulas, offering a dose of predictable drama.

One of the saving graces of "Revenge Heist" is the brilliant performance by Jimmy Shergill. His portrayal of the quintessential Hindi heartland mafia and politician is both convincing and captivating. Panditji and Choona Maharaj also shine with their strong acting chops, adding depth to their respective characters. Bela delivers a commendable performance, and Vishnu's natural acting is a refreshing change. However, the rest of the cast tends to go overboard with their performances, resulting in excessive noise and overacting that can be distracting.

Ultimately, "Revenge Heist" falls into the category of an average OTT series. It might not offer groundbreaking storytelling or mind-bending plot twists, but it does manage to keep you engaged, thanks in large part to Jimmy Shergill's stellar performance. If you're a fan of Hindi heartland dramas and don't mind a somewhat formulaic plot, you'll find "Revenge Heist" to be an okayish choice for a weekend binge-watch.

Minority appeasement! Why everytime?
vidit-7973823 October 2023
Absolutely, your dissatisfaction resonates. The initial episode held promise, but sadly, the show spiraled into a quagmire of clichés and oversimplified narratives. The communal angle, especially, is disappointingly one-dimensional. It portrays the peaceful community as constant victims, amplifying the "love jihad" concept - a narrative that is not only outdated but also divisive.

It's almost like the series is tailored to appease a particular segment rather than presenting a balanced, nuanced story. It's 2023, and yet, we are served reheated leftovers of communal narratives that do nothing to foster unity or reflect the complex, multifaceted reality of our society.

The real sting lies in the predictability and the lack of depth - each episode is a step further away from the engaging, intricate plotlines we crave, and a step closer to a monotonous echo of the same old song. Even Jimmy's commendable acting couldn't salvage a story that was set up to be mundane.

Has its moments!
N1dhi4 October 2023
This is a regular heist show, nothing new or exceptional, but still fun.

The acting talent in this show is fabulous. Jimmy Shergil is a great actor who hasn't really gotten his due yet. This may not do it but he developed his character very well.

The entire team does their bit well. Triloki was my fav and JP was frustrating with his constant negativity - but a really great representation of how people are. Arshad Warsi was a fabulous narrator though at times there was too much narration.

I get that some of the international audiences found the whole representation of astrology a bit much but tbh its not far-fetched at all🙈 I actually know a family that designed their bathrooms based on such advice 😆

The representation of politicians and their greed/grime is so true of several Indian CMs who either build malls in front of slums for money or thug slums in front of malls for vote banks 😁 Overall its a fun watch.

This review is based on watching the audio in the original language without subtitles. A lot of the humour is lost in the translation which often happens.

Also for those who have an issue with the name of the series - choona is a name for lime/whitewash but in slang it also means conning or fooling another!

Total waste
dhiraj-yahoo30 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
There is no real story. Seems like a bunch of random actors doing some act. There is no common thread tying the story.

Jimmy Shergill as usual the only great actor. He should have got more screen time.

Very sub standard plot. Story had real potential but even after 5th episode nothing really moved.

Too many characters and background story telling becomes really irritating after a while. Character development was too rushed. Lead actor has no facial expression.

They tried something like Mirzapur but it's not even 10% of it.

Some part of the series showed some potential however, the momentum was lost quickly. If you have nothing else to watch then you can still watch it.

Nitty, gritty and paisa wasool !
canindianjazz1 October 2023
Jimmy shergill at its best , loved his performance in Your honor series and after that this series is going to be highlight of his power pack acting skills. Apart from him , the cast is spot on , all the actors justify their roles and the dynamics on screen are well blended with one other.

In a Nutshell, it's a political drama which is quite in this days on the webseries platform and its an interesting take towards it with new elements added such as quite heavy use of VFx alongwith the real characters.

It's such a binge that will glue you on to your seats until it ends . So enjoy and can't wait for season 2 !!!!

Absolutely amazing watch
shanumehta-357867 October 2023
Absolutely riveting content to binge-watch. Outstanding performances, a remarkable score, and exquisite writing. It swiftly immerses you in the heart of the series. The storyline is impeccably crafted, leaving no loose ends. The direction and screenplay are mind-boggling, complemented by stunning visuals and sets.

Furthermore, the series beautifully captures the essence of Indian elements, adding a rich and authentic flavor to the entire narrative.

Great dialogue delivery by young talented pool of actors.

Jimmy shergil at his best again. Underrated but doesn't disappoint.

Binge watch this weekend.

A below standard production!
mrlton30 September 2023
The serial had potentials but the production was very poor. It turned out to be a third class serial to watch. It was monotonous, it didn't catch the attention for a minute.

The story doesn't have anything special, However the acting of some performers were good. Given a good director the series could have been a hit

I became tired to watch the serial, since there was nothing new to watch on Netflix I continued with it.

I hope there will be no season two lol, at least i am not going to watch it. My wife resigned on the first episode and never turned her eyes to it again. I never watched it infront of her lol.

Jimmy shergill is sheer brilliance
rituthomasm8 October 2023
Story line is good, brings a very good mix of comedy, technology (VR), astrology, politics and in place love story. Comedy is not forced, dialogues are good and all the actors have done a really amazing job. But the true star of the show is Jimmy Shergill. He was always a good actor and few series here and there show his range. This one is another feather to his hat.

Series is loosely made on the book " not a penny less, not a penny more" but has many sensible editions making it India related. In times when it seems like Indian cinema is dying because of lack of good content, nepo actors and missing efforts in general, these low budget, sensible series are holding the fort in terms of content, acting and entertainment.

Annoying, Brainless, time waste
humorouslyakshay7 October 2023
"Choona" is an abysmal series that tested my patience like no other in recent memory. With its excruciatingly poor writing, insufferable characters, and mind-numbing plot, this show is a prime example of how not to create compelling television.

First and foremost, the writing in "Choona" is an absolute disaster. The dialogue feels forced and unnatural, making it impossible to connect with any of the characters. It's as if the writers threw together a jumble of clichés and stereotypes and hoped for the best. Not only is the dialogue cringe-worthy, but the overall storytelling is disjointed and lacks coherence. It's a series of random events strung together with no clear direction or purpose.

Comedy galore
handaas11 October 2023
A light hearted comedy full of suspense and drama. Seems comedy was a bit overdo but my suggestion: don't apply too much brain and just enjoy it. Fantastic for a dinner time entertainment series with spectacular performances from some of the stage actors. Worth a watch for sure.

Jimmy Shergill - awesome as ever The plot thickens after 2 episodes so u need to continue watching. But the only part missing is the story didn't end with all characters it started with such as mintu. The dialogues are subtle but have a fantastic comedy twist to them. If u liked gulab and guns u shud like this too. But don't have a very high story expectation.

Crap!
drpradipmm10 October 2023
1st ep was exciting, later its child play. I regret! Rather watched Loony Toons instead. Total Crap. Don't worry it's not spoiler. Such a waste of time and money watching such a pathetic act. Indian politics is not such bad as Showen in this web series. Really fall apart as you involved in it. Every move is so much predictable make you upset and uninterested. Imagine someone who wants to be a Chief minister of state want to do such silly things. Communal angle in Bollywood is as imaginable as white line on stone.

Jimmy acting was great but story is not entertaining. Bollywood should learn that these old tactics to keep someone (Communal) in good frame to make them and feel them great is not going to work.

Started well but falls flat on its face
avim14025 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It started well but seems like the makers were in a hurry to finish the series. It was a disaster towards the end and a kind of screenplay that was questioned even by my 12 yr old kid. How could all the gurads be watching a movie on one day of duty? How could anyone enter anytime and anywhere when everywhere there's cctv control? Just one person at his wish turn on and off the CCTV and no one notices. Unlimited number of loopholes which are hard to ignore. I finished the last episode in less than 10 minutes as there was nothing that was making sense. A person in a week becomes an Astrology expert who competes with someone who has been following astrology since childhood. Last 4 episodes were disaster.

Well with web series if you click to episode two means its watchable but the moment you stop mid way after watching first episode means its disaster, at least we have choice not to waste time and if you are watching all episodes of choona means you are aplying chuna to yourself. The script is totally wasted had watch many gangster series depends on the maker who failed badly. The plot is below average so is the continuity you see what you must have seen many times nothing new that too very sub standard boring. Jimmy after long time is seen but unfortunately fails to impress , gulati is made to do over acting. Very bad dont waste your time.

Very basic story line, show unable to make itself unique
neeljain148 October 2023
I was interested in this since it had something new about it i.e Astrology and mysticism (more on that later) in the sea of gangster shows which are seemingly popping up every day.

Jimmy Shergill was fun to watch but he couldn't save the show from a bad script. Rest of the actors did okay,

Coming to why I saw this show. Firstly i had nothing going on in the weekend and this show popped up on my feed, guess the stars aligned. I saw the trailer and felt there was something new to this show which might set it apart from the rest. Astrology and mysticism. The show turned out to just have a superficial reference to Astrology similar to how new tech firms draw you in by saying buzz words like Artificial intelligence and Machine learning, If you take out the astrology ( the only thing making it unique ) it would not change the show much. It's just a generic gangster/politician types shows. Dialogues are generic, the story is very linear, clichéd and predictable. You're not going to miss anything skipping this show,

They have set it up for a sequel, and it'll be any ones guess if they can take the criticism and improve where the show is lacking.
