The first great episode for character development
those_who_dig6 February 2017
In a show called "Attack on Titan", whose first scenes depict the destruction of a human settlement by the show's enormous namesakes, we're going to see and hear about the Titans quite a lot. What's interesting about this episode is that it offers a look of how the human characters (whose names I haven't yet memorised!) live in spite of the ever-looming threat. Far too many fantasy films (and a few too many shows) have made the mistake of failing to connect the viewer to the character on-screen, meaning that any devastation facing the protagonist(s) doesn't evoke much of an emotional response. If future episodes of "Attack on Titan" follow in the direction of "The Night of the Closing Ceremony", I believe that this show is ticking all the boxes in balancing action, plot and character development.

Great build

Another fantastic episode which focuses on character development and sets up for the major storyline in the following episodes. We see how the trainees developed as fighters and how Eren has changed over his training. I loved Eren's speech after the graduation. Probably the best moment of the episode alongside the ending. The show did a very good job at making the new characters interesting and different in the very short build-up. The ending leaves us on a cliffhanger and gets you excited for what's to come. Great stuff.

Solid character development

This episode like the last one is used mainly for character development but they make it so that it is interesting. Ends with a very good cliffhanger as well and sets the next episode quite nicely.

Great

It was a great episode but what was really interesting was that in the 19th minute a sound similar to nokia calling sound is played which brought tears to my eyes. That nostalgic sound always makes me happy and sad. That scene might have been the best scene I've ever seen from this show. With the beautiful sky and potato woman everything is perfect. Rest of the episode? Fine. Some important stuff here, some important stuff there, I actually didn't pay much attention to the rest, honestly. The rest didn't seem to give me enjoyment that much, but that nokia calling is a magnificient, emotional, heartbreaking, suspensful, horrifying, calming scene

10/10.

Love the character work!

This much like some of the other episodes, is one of those you view differently on rewatch and pay attention to things you didn't on first watch!

This episode shows how much Eren has grown as a character already and how he is still fixet on his goal, motivated to reach it! Loves how he goes aggainst the system of "The strongest gets the farthest away from Titans!" He clashes with Jean who does not go against the system! Great characterwork om Jean as well!

The martial arts traing were filled with hints that will come in play latter! This also shows just how much Eren bonds with Reiner as the two of them has gotten quite close!

The end shows how things can change in the blink of an eye and how you can never feel safe in this world!

Warning: Spoilers
"The Night of the Closing Ceremony: Humanity's Comeback Part 2" is a great episode wich is focused on the character development of Eren Yeager. At the end you get an exciting cliffhanger.

Recap: Three years have passed and the 104th are getting ready to graduate. With the skills and techniques picked up during his long training Eren is now more confident than ever in mankind's ability to stand against their foes. However suddenly a face from the past returns and Eren will have to put his training into motion sooner then he thought.

Another episode that's slower in pace but this one puts forward some interesting ideas such as the best soldiers avoiding the front lines the character development is great with each major character having their own goal and personality the next episode looks like it will be action packed 8/10.

Rewatch, 9.55/10

These episodes are just waaayyy too freaking amazing, which we, Tiktokers, call peak, and I swear on my life about this one. To get this over with, my favorite characters in this episode were Eren, Mikasa, and Armin, and my favorite things about this episode were the action, the ending, and the acting. If I am rating these episodes very high rated, imagine what the ratings of the 9.9 star rated episodes on this app will be for my ratings. So far, I have been paying more attention to the dialogue than I have on first watch, and the dialogue is probably another thing I love about this show so far.

Titans Among Us
sanadalsalt17 December 2023
The show "Attack on Titan" begins with the destruction of a human settlement by the enormous Titans, setting the stage for a storyline filled with encounters with these creatures. This episode provides a glimpse into the lives of the human characters, despite the constant looming threat. Unlike other fantasy films and shows, "Attack on Titan" successfully connects the viewer to the characters on-screen, making any potential devastation more emotionally impactful. If future episodes continue in this direction, the show will effectively balance action, plot, and character development. Perfection!!

Good and bad

Warning: Spoilers
Eren still yells too much, and the episode literally states that Mikasa is completely perfect. That being said, I do like her so far, and maybe she does have weaknesses, as all good characters should have. I will reserve judgement on that.

I also like that Eren's group ends up following him, because it is that reckless determination which draws people to him as a kind of leader. I like that the show continues to make interesting observations about the nature of humanity and motivations.

Still, I'm starting to see a pattern of poor writing choices that are concerning me. The third episode was particularly egregious, stealing Eren's character development away by blaming a faulty belt. Here, a titan happens to attack at just the right moment as the plot point has concluded to set the 'hook' for an action packed next episode. It's lazy and far too convenient to be believed. It also strips away any chance to have this group go on a journey together before facing this plot moment. Worse still, it's the second time the show has done this, as the first titan attack happened literally at the moment a character states that it could happen at any moment.

Unless there's some kind of plot revelation later that all this massive convenience in timing has a purpose, then it's just bad writing.
