Exclusive: Euphoria creator Ron Leshem has shared the intriguing story behind buzzy Israeli drama Bad Boy, the first international co-production backed by Peter Chernin’s North Road.
Unveiled in March for Israeli network Hot, at which point it was described by Leshem as “the next Euphoria,” Bad Boy follows Dean, who is imprisoned in a cruel juvenile detention facility and bonds with Zoro, a grim and mysterious teenage prisoner serving time for murder. Dean learns to harness his unique intelligence and, 20 years later, these traits define him as a star comedian, while his time in jail is a secret threatening to resurface and tear his life apart.
Only six months passed between the show’s announcement and today’s TIFF premiere but Leshem said Bad Boy has been two decades in the making, harking back to his time as an investigative journalist when he was assigned to a story in a juvenile prison.

Exclusive: Sipur, the Israeli studio behind North Road-backed Bad Boy and award-winning doc series The Devil’s Confession, has struck a multi-year deal with local network Reshet13.
The pair will co-finance and co-produce Israeli scripted shows, documentary series and formats with potential for the global market, coming from a nation that has traditionally punched above its weight when it comes to exporting TV.
Run by Emilio Schenker, Sipur already has a similar deal in place with MGM, which was renewed in 2022. With investment in local Israeli content “shrinking,” Sipur and Reshet said the new deal will allow a “long-term path to screen” for projects.
Schenker added: “This deal provides us with a long-term launchpad for new international co-productions. We couldn’t be more pleased than to be in business with the talented teams at Reshet13 on this strategy, which we have been successfully implementing both inside and outside of Israel.

Chicago – “Bad Boys For Life” shows that maybe Will Smith isn’t too old for this kind of sh*t, but Martin Lawrence certainly is. This third installment comes 17 years after “Bad Boys II,” and 25 years after the original film unleashed director Michael Bay on an unsuspecting public.
It aims to be just as bombastic as its predecessors, but without Michael Bay behind the lens and a lot more jokes about middle age, creaking bones and dying beards.
Rating: 2.0/5.0
The opening car chase sets the tone to come, with Bad Boy cops Mike (Smith) and Marcus (Lawrence) racing through the streets of Miami, endangering countless lives, and breaking dozens if not hundreds of laws … but not in the pursuit of drug dealers or other nefarious underworld types … they are instead heading to the hospital to witness the birth of Marcus’s first grandbaby, while the new grandpappy manages to dent...

Cue Scooby-Doo flashback…
I was attending Comic-Con in San Diego; it was the early 90’s, and I was a much different person than I am today. I was as they say Happy Go Lucky and Gay. Always upbeat and ready for whatever adventure awaited me.
Now?
The only word that still applies from Happy Go Lucky and Gay is gay. I’m still gay and Black. I’m a lesbian— I like women.
I’d just finished a panel when I was approached by this young white kid. And I do mean white. Without saying a word, this kid screamed baseball, apple pie, and Chevrolet. When he reached me, I said: “Look without a blood test, you’ll never be able to prove I’m your father.” I didn’t say that, but it’s true.
I actually said, “What’s up, Opie?” He just looked at me. “You’re a long way from Mayberry,...
