Possibly the funniest Netflix special in recent years...
Airman877 September 2023
With the oversaturation of cancel culture friendly, unfunny content from Bert Kreischer and Tom Segura, Shane Gillis returns to bring it all down. Shane really throttles the line the entire special, stepping over it and then crossing right back. Sure, there were a few jokes that didn't resonate with me, and watching Shane's awkward body mannerisms made me as uncomfortable as he probably was; but when the jokes hit, they hit hard. My only complaint is the set probably could have used another 10 minutes of material. The question most people should be asking after watching is, when do we get another Shane special?

Finally - a real comic
thejdrage9 September 2023
While he is not my kind of comic (stick with me here)!, I applaud him for his ability to go deep into topics that far far too many comics today are afraid to even think about let alone get up on stage anywhere and actually talk about and make fun of!

Comics are supposed to make fun of literally everything that we (I precious and dear - from disabilities (which if we don't have, we know and love someone who does - even if they don't know it), to color and (my favorite) the color of cocks.

His descriptions are detailed, I'll leave it at that, and most of them are hilarious! Some go on a bit long, but hey, don't we all.

I see I've used up the much loathed and totally unnecessary 600 minimum characters on this on excellent character.

On the money

Shane Gillis is off the charts and one of the funniest guys comedy has to offer. Not afraid to dive into touchy topics in a lighthearted manner. You always find people that go too far on either end of the spectrum (pun absolutely intended). They're either too afraid to make people mad or push it too far beyond what's acceptable. Gillis found and lives in that middle ground and it's awesome. The impressions were also spot on as always. Had me cracking up on a plane.

I will say some of his jokes fail to land, which could just be me personally. But overall very funny.

Definitely worth checking out and is one of the best specials I've ever seen on Netflix.

The funniest special I've seen in 7 years
Unpopular_Opinion-5 September 2023
I won't over complicate it: this is a guy completely unafraid of comedy in 2023, and it's downright refreshing.

I cannot believe the tightrope that he has to walk for some of these jokes, but the fact that he keeps going and is unapologetically just doing whatever he has to do to get a laugh out of the audience is a comedian who understands that he's not a philosopher or a politician: he's a jester. Shane Gillis absolutely knocks it out of the park.

Keep an open mind and understand that this guy is just trying to make people laugh, and I assure you you'll have a good time. I'm at times surprised a company like Netflix even posted this.

What a great special
aliassmc7 September 2023
I walked in I said WOW what a great special.

Shane is the man, it's incredible to see how far he has come since being removed from SNL. He's been nothing short of spectacular and you see it reflected in his loyal fan base. Shoutout to the dawgz. Very happy to see such a. Deserving performer finally achieve the greatness he's clearly worthy of.

He comes out very hot at the start then gets more and more comfortable as the set continues. No spoilers, but he has a bit about the girls who got dragged to the show by their boyfriends that's pretty hilarious.

If you're not a fan of Shane, or haven't heard of him before, this is well worth the watch.

Best special of the decade
sweetblueshq7 September 2023
I turned this on Netflix not sure if i'd like this guy or not.

He starts of by ripping us Aussies for five minutes - with a name like Shane I thought he might even be Australian - but bring it on big boy - we have thick skin :p

By the end, I had become his newest biggest fan. This guy is effing funny. Top of the heap funny. The last time I laughed this hard was when Bill Burr was in his prime.

And it felt like a new era of comedy - fear of cancel culture is in the rearview mirror, and all the better for it. No US-centric political lecturing of the audience, no virtue signalling, no vacuous pandering, and no throwing of stones from a glass house.

This is definitely someone to keep an eye on in the world of comedy. I think he's going to rise fast.

Will definitely watch this again in coming days. And already waiting for the next special.

Bravo Shane - top notch.

Shane is one of the best comedians alive today
AlexKnappenberger26 September 2023
Shane's 2nd special lives up to the hype. I saw him perform this set live earlier this year in Pittsburgh when he was working on it for the special and I would say it's expertly crafted. He is well rounded when expressing his opinions to get his points across in a funny manner but also trying to not overtly offend anyone. Some people still may not love some of the subject matter but frankly those people need to lighten up. Shane's impressions are spot on, if you're able to watch this and not laugh I don't believe you have a pulse. Can't wait to see what the future brings for Shane Gillis. Excellent job Shane. Where the DAAAWWWGSSS AT.

outstanding comedy special
zdd-941129 September 2023
No idea who had to get strong armed into releasing this but I'm glad it happened. This was hilarious and a breath of fresh air. Gillis never missed a beat, he took chances and delivered on them, it was so fun that it ended before I knew it. The transitions between bits and the handling of what some might consider sensitive issues was masterful. This special is up there with the Norm MacDonalds specials and Sandler's 100% Fresh. Is it worth it a Netflix subscription considering how much garbage they produce? No. I would rather pay Gillis and have him retain total creative control than support Netflix and their steady stream of unwatchable specials.

American type comedy for Americans
bohincblaz11 February 2024
Shane is funny. He has good perception of audience feedback and can react on the spot without too much trouble. I've watched most of his material and many of his podcasts. I like that he doesn't use loudness as a tool to make something funny, like Kevin Hart or Bill Burr.

Shane is probably about 5IQ points shy of making some really clever material, it seems like he just misses the mark when making jokes that require broader knowledge and falls flat on vulgar punchlines - contrary (for example) to Dave Chapelle, who delivers every single one beautifully.

You will enjoy Shane. He, as a person, is funny, even though much of his material isn't special at all (his impressions though, are). He is not a great story teller. He'll tell partial truths or skew reality to make a joke work even it makes it less funny - just because it's funny to him. And he tell it so himself. And audience laughs all the same, he just makes a silly face and it's enough.

I'll say this much. I don't think he's the pinnacle of comedy and his Netflix special is a bit short and poorly executed - but if he gets another one, I'll probably watch it.

Simply the best
ila-michael-ferrier5 September 2023
I had the pleasure of watching the latest stand-up special, and let me tell you, it was an absolute riot! Shane knows how to bring the laughs like nobody else. From the moment he stepped on stage, the humor just kept coming, one punchline after another.

I couldn't help but burst into fits of laughter throughout the entire special. It was like a non-stop rollercoaster of hilarity. If you're in need of a good laugh, this is the perfect remedy. It's the kind of comedy that makes your troubles fade away and leaves you with a big, goofy grin on your face.

The jokes were relatable and clever, touching on everything from everyday life to the quirks of human behavior. Shanes delivery was spot-on, and his timing was impeccable. It's clear they've honed their craft to perfection.

Honestly, this special is a must-watch for anyone who enjoys good humor. It's like a breath of fresh air in a world that can sometimes feel a bit too serious. So, do yourself a favor and check it out. Just be prepared to laugh so hard that your cheeks hurt afterward! 😄🎤👏

Gonna Have To Jump! Nooooo!
refinedsugar2 March 2024
I thought Shane Gillis's 'Live in Austin' was a fantastic stand-up show. Some of his bits from that are engrained in my head with how much I laughed. On the heels on his SNL hosting gig, I was overdue to give 'Beautiful Dogs' a watch. It has some fun moments sure to delight fans, but doesn't reach the same mile high mark unfortunately for me.

First some oldies, but goodies. Trump's political push means you get his excellent impression again. A staple of his routine - Down syndrome - returns for another shoutout at John Cena and those people's zesty exuberance for life. He returns to racism again thru American history and nails it without being offensive. For the new, you get quick but effective voices of terrorists, Australian people and a stable of comedy: sex, women, relationships, porn.

If you're all about clean jokes or the easily offended type, you're in the wrong place with Shane Gillis. He's a likeable guy who I'm glad is getting his due. His persona makes it easy to enjoy him pushing the boundaries to get people to laugh. 'Beautiful Dogs' doesn't have the gut busting set power his first standup had, but it's still a smooth piece of work that fans of his will enjoy.

DROP DEAD
lawrences-8135414 September 2023
Never seen this guy before. I'm a huge fan of bill burr, dave Chappelle, chris rocks my fav, but this guy.. might've been the most i've cried watching a show. The way he pushes the buttons of cancel culture without any audience member ever feeling offended is masterclass. Please watch this with friends of (cool) family.

Topics include, trump, racism, LGBTQ, mentally challenged people, his ex, porn, the war in iraq, navy seals, our presidents, and actually a ton more. It begins kinda slow I will admit, was not a big fan of the Australian jokes they just seemed kinda boring to me. But as soon as you get out of the first 5 minutes you'll be on the floor crying.

Funny...
paul_haakonsen18 February 2024
I have never heard about the stand-up comedian Shane Gillis, before stumbling upon the 2023 comedy special "Shane Gillis: Beautiful Dogs" on Netflix. I was perusing through their stand-up comedy catalogue, and stumbled upon this show. And never having heard about Shane Gillis before, I opted to sit down and watch it.

So of course I didn't know what to expect from the show. So I sat down to watch it with no expectations.

Shane Gillis proved to be rather funny and had a lot of good jokes in his material. I was genuinely entertained throughout the course of the 52 minutes that the show ran for. And the contents of the material was fairly varied, so he was getting nicely around different topics.

If you aren't yet familiar with Shane Gillis, then this 2023 show is definitely one that I can recommend.

My rating of "Shane Gillis: Beautiful Dogs" lands on a six out of ten stars.

Not Just For Men
laradethomas10 September 2023
Shane Gillis' Beautiful Dogs on Netflix was hilarious! His performance, featuring spot-on impressions of a kangaroo, people with Down Syndrome, and Trump, had me rolling on the floor.

He didn't just dip his toe into politics; he jumped feet first off the high dive and executed an epic cannonball. Plus, his retelling of his uncomfortable visit to George Washington's home (plantation) added an extra layer of comedic brilliance!

I can understand why he appeals to the 20 to 30-something male demographic, but as a Republican woman in her 50s, his humor resonated with me so much that my cheeks hurt from laughing.

The funniest special I've seen in years!!!
gml-6375211 September 2023
As a huge fan of Dave Chapelle, Louis C. K., and Theo Vonn. Shane Gillis has been a welcome addition to my Mount Rushmore of comedians. He keeps getting funnier and funnier and this special, in my opinion, is his best from start to finish. I can't recall a single joke that didn't land and I was in tears laughing throughout it.

Shane walks the line so perfectly without ever making any individual or group the punch line while still telling timely and pertinent jokes. Of course he uses his Trump impression (bread and butter for him at this point) but it never felt redundant.

I've recommended this special to all my friends and family and am probably annoying about it at this point but I felt my enjoyment with this warranted a 10 star review.

Jokes on a high wire
hitsounds-625-83292519 September 2023
You know that realisation that you've been making excuses for mundane stuff in your life, when something comes along that is truly good? That's what this felt like.

Disarming in its observational honestly, and as natural a delivery of well honed material as I've seen in years.

Shane is the high wire walker who strolls along casually above the critical gaze of the neurotic and obsessive twitterati, seemingly unshaken by the potential fall those joyless hacks would salivate over. It's a win for comedy, and a much needed reminder that to find humour in darkness is an antidote to our neuroses, not the humourless tribal pettines and self-indulgence of faux victimhood we are gaslit into accepting as entertainment. A true talent perfectly deployed.

A Funny but Very Frank Comedian
tkdlifemagazine11 September 2023
I did not know anything about Shane Gillis going into this. I don't believe I had ever hear of him, or seen him before. This is surprisingly good. Gillis has a strange demeanor in that he appears to be a blue collar-ish "everyman" but as the material unfolds he is a very thoughtful, educated and precise comedian. He is also a good storyteller. This special is not for people easily offended, and I could see how a viewer may find this special more offensive than it actually is. What I mean is he talks frankly but he is highlighting some very basic hypocrasies and foolish aspects of society. I love his storytelling of visiting George Washington's Mt. Vernon during COVID. Worth seeing. I would watch other stuff by him as well.

Absolutely Hilarious
revkillard10 September 2023
Good enough for me to actually leave a review on this site. Every bit of Shane Gillis' comedy special was outstanding. His impressions are remarkably natural and seamlessly woven into each joke. With an expansive range, he manages to touch on various aspects of life, making his humor universally relatable, yet wildly so to many.

What stands out about Shane Gillis is his ability to deliver dark humor with an innocent charm, a rare combination that sets him apart. As I've been exposed to more of his work, I've come to appreciate his unique outlook on life and his knack for finding humor in the absurdities of it all. His comedy has taught me to let go and laugh at so much more.

I eagerly anticipate seeing more of him in the future and highly recommend his comedy special.

As a side note, while impressions may be more of a sideline for him, Shane's Trump impressions are some of the best I've ever seen. It's absolutely astonishing what he can do, consistently finding new ways to make something as simple as an impression unbelievably entertaining.

Netflix best stand up special in years!!
danjjackson8 November 2023
To be honest I'd never even heard of Shane before a week ago, I saw his special pop up on Netflix and since I love Stand Up I watch every single special from any comedian I find some I love, some I cannot stomach and find I can watch a whole hour and not laugh even once..... safe to say Shane was the exact opposite! Absolutely Hilarious, couldn't stop laughing.... His style isn't exactly what I love in stand up.... He isn't aggressive, doesn't shout jokes to try and make them funnier (he doesn't need to!) He just sounds like a really friendly guy that's just having a chat with the audience and happens to be saying great and funny stuff! I've already watched his first special and cannot wait for more! The birth of a possible comedy Legend!?

Couldn't Watch It
gorgondriftertv3 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Never heard of the guy and I love stand up comedy so I thought I'd give it a go. I don't mind a bit of offensive humour but he just kept calling things 'gay' for the first few minutes so I switched it off out of annoyance. I can't comment on the whole performance since I couldn't get through the show. It looked interesting and what I saw showed that he clearly had experience as a comedian but for me the content and style just was too abrasive, old-fashioned and arrogant. I'm British so maybe its a cultural difference in humour but just calling things gay all the time isn't funny to me. I don't mind comedy dissing people a little bit but this wasn't for me.

Sure Kept Me Hooked! He's Hilarious!
CarterAA1929 November 2023
Comedy can be tricky but i feel he did the perfect job! He touched on dark jokes while making sure the funny overpowered the subject! He kept me hooked with almost every single bit. He has a great delivery on most of his jokes too, he really gets into it lol!

One of the most underrated stand up comedians! He did an amazing job at relating a lot of offensive jokes towards himself too while making people literally belly laugh! This guy deserves more stand ups! I wish more people heard about him because he's truly hilarious!

Give this special a shot if you looking for a good comedy show with your friends!

Best Comedy Special of 2020s
andrephill12 November 2023
This was fantastic. Energized pacing, broad subject matter, very inclusive. Instant all time classic. Manages to extract all of the funny out of some controversial topics. Walks a balanced line very well while not losing artistic integrity.

I am by no means a joe rogan fan or a podcast bro. In fact, I detest man in the circle. So many of the comics supplanted by Rogan are horrendous (the machine, schulz, e.t.c.).

I am simply a fan of good comedy. This is it. Seriously worth a watch.

Hope this gets the flowers it deserves. Truly captures the spirit of our time. Props to netflix for giving shane a platform. Inspiring stuff.

Another great special from Gillis, one of the best specials of 2023.
seanorafferty8 December 2023
Super original material but the same dumb, observant, timeless and self deprecating humor as his previous special. His trump impression is great and the stories and bits from his life are all hilarious. I love the way he handles taboo subjects, he does so with the innocence of a child and the gracefulness of your idiot friend. When I first heard about Shane Gillis and when I first listened to his material and podcast, I did not like him. But, his stand up is downright funny and he has become someone who I will automatically watch whenever he puts out new stand up material.

Too many specials lately, like Segura's, Chapelle's etc are just not funny. They come off as whiny, out of touch, unrelatable. They try to make big social points or rebuff political/social stances. NONE of that here. Just jokes, just laughs, nothing offensive and nothing annoying. Highly recomend, its one of the best of the year.

Unfunny, uninspiring and complete garbage !!!
buicmarino14 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
In first 5 minutes of watching this awkward charade of a so called comedian, I didn't even smirk to his rant about Australia and no one gives a flying duck about his trip to Australia. And about Love on Spectrum, he thinks it is hilarious to make a fun of those innocent participants calling them using derogatory terms. I agree that nowadays jokes from other comedians are a bit bland and lukewarm, but this guy just over did it by being simply rude. Actually, I am not offended by his jokes, but they just don't hit the same anymore and are out dated. I continued to watch it until he started mimicking something he had seen in adults only videos and that was it for me, I've switched to Dream Home Makeover and have a much more laugh to jokes of those entrepreneur couple from Utah even though it is not comedy show.

Unfunny.
