Teeth-Aching
halbauerwendy20 September 2023
On today's show, Sept 20, 2023, with her male cooking guest Mary used the word AMAZING 21 times in that segment and the word PERFECT almost as many. It was extremely annoying.

Could someone please provide Mary with a Thesaurus?

Note to her Design Team: Please trim those bangs and get those side wisps off her face while she's cooking.

It's just not sanitary, especially when she pushes them away.

I agree with the comment that Mary should lose the so-called interviews. An interviewer she is not. A cook she is.

Leave Mom at home watching your show; there's no synchronicity between you on the set. Boring.

I doubt that this audience is there for the science segments, signaled by lack of applause. Boring.

Broaden your vocabulary, Mary.
joansutton-874779 October 2023
Mary's recipes are good and easy to follow. Cooking is her passion and she's fantastic at it.

I like the cooking segments very much.

Talking with guests....not so much. Overzealous, over dramatic and overuse of the words "amazing" and "perfect" are so annoying that I want to change the channel. Some coaching on the use of a thesaurus to find synonyms for "amazing" and "perfect" might help. She really needs to listen to her guests and give them a chance to show their stuff.

Her cheerful and bubbly personality make her likeable, but not for a 60 minute show. We need to see some calmness and sincerity to make this show real.

Upbeat

I love the show and tape it daily. It has a lot of things that interest me and that I enjoy. Mary's Cooking segments are great with a lot of dishes I like that aren't too complicated to make. I also like the Fashion,Crafts,Hairstyles, and Celebrity Guests. I love Mary's upbeat, outgoing and positive personality. I am alone and her happy vibes cheer me up,so I was surprised at the negative reviews on here. Mary's mother Myra is another joy and I love when she's on the show as she's a star in her own right. Mary could be somewhat less one dimensional but with time she will grow into a more mature personality,as she is still quite young.

It's Good

Mary's realatble and seems like a great person. The show offers a good variety of recipes I can actually make and features diverse guest experts. I'm glad they didn't 'replace' the Marilyn Denis Show with a seasoned journalist. No one can take Marilyn's place, she is truly one of a kind and I hated to see her go but hopefully people don't compare Mary to her. May doesnt seem to take herself too seriously and can go with the flow. I just hope as the show grows we will see even more interesting guests for Mary to chat with and some new segments to keep the show fresh. I luv watching her and her mom together!

Nope ..not good
boattop6 September 2023
I am watching this cringe worthy show right now. I have watched 2 shows and this is sooooo bad.

Mary is too sweet, to the point of getting diabetes when dealing with guests. Everything seems forced and nothing appears spontaneous. All is by the script and the script is bad and we don't even have a writer's strike in Canada.

I do like watching her cooking, Mary seems more relaxed when talking to the camera, she excels in that part of the show. Ditch the guests and sub-stories...today was a clutter/organization. Unattainable in the real world and Megan and Mary acted like two little schoolgirls..annoying.

Mary, stick with being a wonderful chef..like Valeri Bertinelli...that is what your show should stay with. Cooking AND...make the show 30 minutes long.

UPDATE: I tried CTV, I really tried to give Mary several more chances .. I can't. The show is not improving, we are not a kindergarten class, those at home are probably retired seniors, yet Mary talks to us like we are 5. She said "Amazing" 6 times in 90 seconds today" Her husband and her Mum, keep them off the show. And her makeovers??? Appalling on the most part.

UPDATE NUMBER 2: When is CTV going to wake up and cancel this infantile show. Now, from saying "Amazing" and "Delish" sooooo many times, her latest catch phrase is "I'm not going to lie" over and over again. We are intelligent people as viewers on the most part...then give us a show that reflects this, not this ridiculous Romper Room garbage.

Good Stuff!
jayYYZ10 January 2024
My mum has been taping this show since it started airing & I watch it with her whenever I'm over as I enjoy learning new recipes & am familiar with Mary from MARY MAKES IT EASY...I was fortunate enough to catch a taping of the show in December. Her quirky sense of humour & knack for breaking down the science of cooking are a huge part of her charm but i do have to laugh at most of the reviews taking digs at her bubbly personality/saying she comes off phony - if you've been in her studio audience, you'd know she is unapologetically herself & incredibly generous with her time, which is rare.

Her interviewing skills will become more refined over time & experience, but her curiosity & willingness to try new things is refreshing. This show works best when it differentiates itself from its predecessor & it would be even more fun if interviews can take on a more conversational tone with the guests cooking alongside Mary.

Hard to Stomach
tomgravestock21 September 2023
Sheeshkabob, where does one start? It looks to be made by the same people that make the Social, the same company that let Your Morning out of its box from under the stairs.

Normally Mary Berg is quite cute and funny in a nerdy way but this schtick grows tiresome here. She's like a robot with half a dozen formulaic responses.

And all the faces she pulls looks like she put too many lemons in the sauce.

This show makes it clear that Mary is not interesting in the least. She appears to be writing a shopping list in her head when she's supposed to be interviewing someone. One dimensional at best.

Everything is awesome and amazing...oh wait, no it's not. They should call this the Cornball Show. How can anyone be so dull? If this show lasts the season, well, that would be amazing Mary.

Loving The Good Stuff
valiefreeman20 December 2023
Reading the reviews I don't understand why some people don't like this show. Mary is not Marilyn so stop expecting the Marilyn Denis show. I've had the privilege of being in the studio audience twice for her show and the experience has been amazing both times. Mary is engaging and actually genuine despite what people think of her by watching the show for 10 minutes. I actually really enjoy that it's not like the Marilyn Denis show. I love that she focuses on cooking because that is always my favourite part of any lifestyle show. She is great with kids and she's wonderful to her audience. I've been following Mary since she was on MasterChef Canada and that is just her personality. She is bubbly and is an absolute sweetheart.

Stepford wife
pm-griffiths-956-4451921 October 2023
Ohhh, I do detest this show. Why? It's a re-do of the brainwashing silliness they had back in the 1950s about being the perfect entertainer, cook, etc. Its Martha Stewart without the style and panache. The format appears to be all about how amazing she is. It's like watching a YouTuber influencer with massive studio equipment and funding. Suspect this is part of satisfying or meeting the Canadian content requirements. While I love the cooking segments, it's the over-the-top emoting that curdles any attraction to this program. It is the being-the-hostess-with-mostess that is the most annoying pressure to be perfection. Reminds me of the Stepford wives.

Delightful
stocktonchris-5196811 February 2024
I thoroughly enjoyed this show! Not only did it entertain me, but it also had a remarkable impact on my mood. After indulging in a few segments, I found my spirits significantly lifted, shedding some of my initial grumpiness. The presenter's lively demeanor, albeit a tad boisterous, resonated well with me, adding an extra layer of charm to the experience. Moreover, it's hard not to notice how effortlessly captivating the host is; her engaging personality coupled with her undeniable charm makes her a joy to watch. This is precisely the type of programming that fits perfectly with a morning routine accompanied by a steaming cup of coffee, injecting a much-needed dose of energy to kickstart the day with enthusiasm and vigor. It's a delightful way to wake up and embrace the day ahead, all while being entertained and enchanted by the wonderful content and the delightful host!

Time to go....
irenecraig-743595 December 2023
This is probably one of the worst shows on TV. Why is her mother on the show all the time. They should rename the show Mary and her mother. I have stopped watching her show, as it is getting really stupid. She is getting dressed like some kind of clown. Wish they would replace her with someone else. Get rid of the mother. Also, she just talks too much and it is all silly. I thought we were more intelligent in Canada. Obviously not at this network. Marilyn Denis had so many wonderful people who came on the show that could have taken over and not this clown like person. I just wish they would choose another host. I am sure people have stopped watching because of her silly little girl antics. I know I am done.

I love this new show!
husna_athan20 January 2024
I started watching the Good Stuff with Mary Berg from the beginning because I like Mary and have watched her other shows n learned a lot of easy, delicious recipes. And she always makes me smile no matter what my day is like.

To be honest, I didn't watch Marilyn Dennis show because I found it boring.

It was the same old everyday.

Mary is sweet, kind, funny n really knows her stuff.

I make everything she makes on the show.

My friends all love her, she is young, beautiful n energetic.

She has great guests on the show n I love watching her cook with her mom.

It's a beautiful bond she has as Myra raised her kids as a single mom.

Please give Mary a chance, you can't learn everything at once n time gives experience like other hosts did.

My neighbors who are seniors also love this new show, it's easy to watch.

I watch the whole show n sometimes rewatch it.

She is a breathe of fresh air unlike the 40 something women on the show called the Social which I turn off after 5 minutes.

Mary will beat Marilyn Dennis after a few seasons because of her personality.

Even her guests get her high energy!

I hope this show continues for many years.

Mary is an expert with many different shows But this one is the best

Just watched today's show n I think Mary is catching on.

I tape the show n watch it because I find it interesting.

I met other people who also think the same.

Great show Mary!

Keep it up.

Don't mind the negative reviews as us young generation find you adorable.

With more experience you will be #1!!

Too too much being chipper and bubbly
shirleydohei1 November 2023
I have given this show a chance since it started. She is too giggly and too much! She is definitely not catering to older women who are mostly home in mornings. She cooks too much! She does not use words properly quite often. The show seems to just be how fabulous she is and her Mum and her husband as well. And her Halloween costume was the end for me! This show is not what I want in the mornings. I need someone that is not so loud and giggly and is much more professional. I live in a seniors complex and, interestingly, all of us are really put off by her. I will not be watching this show anymore as it annoys me too much.

Stick With Cooking Shows, Mary
kpassa9 September 2023
I really enjoy watching Mary cook. I have every episode of Mary Makes It Easy so when I found out about a new show with a food sounding name I had to give it a look. Big mistake. A Canadian Jeopardy champion? A kid who never sees the sunshine because he is glued to his computer (true, something good came from it but how many kids fritter their time away with nothing to show for it except pasty skin?)? Who cares? She did start off with a cooking demonstration but that wasn't enough to make me put up with all of the other filler. Since I live in an area which doesn't allow us to watch her show live I downloaded episode 1. I won't waste bandwidth downloading episode 2. Her opening recipe was chicken. It should have been turkey to match the theme of her show. Oh, and by the way, she also tries to sell overpriced junk. Why, Mary, why? Stick with cooking.

Expand your vocabulary & stick to cooking
wglassjeddore21 September 2023
I agree with a previous reviewer. AMAZING, PERFECT, OH MY GOSH, how many times she said this, I lost count & turned the channel. She is not a good interviewer, she is awkward & is forced in her responses to the guest. Who in the world thought she would be a good replacement in the Marilyn Dennis slot. On the plus side, her recipes are interesting & easy to follow. She does a good job of explaining the recipes & showcasing them. But, as for sticking to just a cooking show, an hour of cooking would be too long. How many things can you say about a recipe. Perhaps, if she had various cooks on with their favourite recipes but then, on a daily show, that would become tedious as well. I, also agree with a previous reviewer, she should tie her hair back when cooking. Marilyn had a couple of cooks on who also did not tie their hair back & when bending over, their hair would dip into the cooking pot. Stomach turning.

She needs to learn to speak properly.
gerru-811897 February 2024
Examples: Welcome to the show-ah! Hello-ah, so nice to meet cha instead of you and gonna, wanna, goin, doin instead of going to, want to, going, doing. And the one I really CAN'T stand is when she, all too often, does her American impersonation and uses Y'all. Perky is her personality and one could overlook that if she spoke decent English. It should be a requirement for media personalities. I watched the show a couple of times when she had guest on that I thought would be interesting. Unfortunately she spent more time looking at the script off camera than looking at her guest. She should learn her lines or have the prompter moved.

Really wanted to like her show
susang-391557 February 2024
When I heard Marilyn Denis timeslot was being replaced by Mary Berg, I was happy for her. Huge shoes to fill as Marilyn had decades -34 years - on TV and was not the National Treasure she grew into from the beginning.

I like Mary. She is refreshing and honest.

However I'm so put off by her over-the- top exuberance and childish squealing. As she is introduced, I change the channel or tune in AFTER she has settled down.

Her use of 'situations' and 'deliciousness' along with 'amazing' and 'perfect' are too frequent.

Basically, Mary needs to be coached. She needs to lower her voice, slow down, listen to her guests - without interruption, and most importantly, calm down by half.

Slow Down
flowers10001 March 2024
I enjoy Mary Berg and rooted big time for her during Masterchef. I've always been a fan and follower of her kitchen talents, cooking and successes. I don't compare her to Mariyn Denis, but sometimes I must tune out. The show is a bit too hyper.

I hear the intro of shrill screaming and over-the-top high pitched slapping hand greetings to the audience of "Hi-yah !!!!, Wow-ah!, Look at you-ah!, Love your dress-ah!!!". The Ah! Is grating on every last nerve. Sounds a bit like middle school.

Mary, in my opinion, needs to expand her vocabulary and phrases. If I hear; 'amazing, perfect, beautiful, nice, etc' in the same tone one more time with a lillted or raised end, I may scream.

Other repetitive phrases like the term 'little babies'; Place these little babies, put these little babies, space out these little babies, pop out these little babies, bake these little babies, etc. Or 'It's a good thing!' and "I'm not gonna lie" are used so much, it's hard to listen to over and over and over again. I could stand to improve my own language skills myself, but I'm not on national TV. It has though made me more aware of the way I speak.

With expert guests or show regulars (home design, hair, makeovers, fashion, fellow chefs, outdoors, etc.) and during their explaining their segments, I feel like she can't help but say yah, beautiful, amazing, perfect after every one of their sentences. If she thinks that something is funny, which doesn't take much, she does the Yah! That then connects immediately into a shrill, long laugh that overshadows her guests basic statements. Yah,hahahahahahahahahahaha! I wish she knew she could just nod her head in understanding and not vocally contribute 'YAH!' or the never ending laugh after every comment. Seems unrefined with all the Yah-Yah-Yah-Yahs. Even a proper 'Yes' would be refreshing.

The hair sweeping her eyes and not up or back when cooking is a bit of a turn-off as she's a beautiful lady and could set an example of kitchen hygiene. I also like Mom Myra, but she's on an awful lot. I get that she's close to her and provides comic relief.

Mary is a sweet, wholesome presence and is full of great tips, has great recipes, and the show has good guests. Personally on my own TV watching, I'll give her some time to develop and grow. I support Canadian Television (particularly CTV) and this is a slot I enjoy at home, but I have to admit, I'll sometimes mute it due to all the over-the-top uneccesary shrill laughing, never ending voice blurts from Mary after every guest's sentences. It's said that hosts of shows have professional skills where they know how to listen and not to talk non-stop. Let the guests speak.

I have faith in Mary learning the ropes in a professional manner. After all, she's a kitchen chef, not an experienced host of a lifestyle show with a lean toward fun kitchen stuff. I'm not seeing any improvement in calming the show down a few notches, but I'd like to see an easier to view show.

Please stop it!!
kxyydrv9 November 2023
If I hear the word "delish" one more time I'm going to scream. I don't want to hear the words "perfect" or "amazing" over and over again. I don't want to see your mom and husband repeatedly on the show. The segments are too short and meaningless. This is basically an hour long cooking show that's boring. Please remove this show off the air and give us something more similar to Marylin Denis or even CityLine. If I wanted to watch a cooking show I'd tune into a cooking show. The age group this is aimed at aren't watching tv in the morning, they are in school. Please spend the money on a good host and not the fancy set.

Way too much sweetness
kathywosnick8 September 2023
Totally agree with other reviewer...way too much giddiness. Mary comes across as very silly and immature. She would be better to stick with cooking. Interview skills are definitely not a strength. Mary's how to segments seem very forced. The over the top excitement around not much, like making slime just exhaust me.

Not a good follow up from Marilyn Denis who was so skilled as a host. Mary may be able to improve with age but she is not ready to host a one hour show like this. She is certainly sweet and personable but it comes across as forced excitement and enthusiasm, so so very much over the top.

Please Stop The Torture
dlien-4075619 February 2024
"The Good Stuff" with Mary Berg is, without a doubt, the worst show I have ever seen on CTV... and that is saying a lot. Mary may know how to cook but she is NOT qualified to do a one hour show like this one. She is not mature enough nor does she have the qualifications to host a successful talk show. She has a very limited background in television (other than cooking) and, sadly for CTV, does it ever show. The words "awesome, amazing, perfect, and oh my gosh" seem to be the extent of her entire vocabulary. She comes across as phoney and silly in a viewing market that expects good content and professionalism. To be honest, this show and Mary Berg as a replacement for Marilyn Denis, the ultimate professional, is nothing but an insult to the viewers.

It has reached the point where I cannot even stand to see the never-ending ads on CTV for The Good Stuff so, in desperation, I now avoid CTV altogether. Sadly, the ads have also invaded other cable channels but not on the ridiculous level that CTV is broadcasting them. I am also very tired of seeing The Big Bang Theory (sometimes broadcast 15- 20 times/day) and Seinfeld on this network. All of the good programming is now on Global in Canada and, of course, most of the U. S. Networks. If you do not cancel this program, i honestly think the future of CTV will become even bleaker than it already is.

Just Awful
turkh-003933 November 2023
The insincerity of the host is cringe worthy. Example of that would be her big fat fake laugh. Her mother and family seem to be on it every time I have watched and appear awkward ..(have watched x3 to see if any Improvement.. nope..every time I watched, was worse). Is she trying to be a clown? Or is this her sctick? Her interviewing skills are lacking. I dislike her physical behaviour and her weird spreading out movements she makes with her hands and fingers. Distracting. Also can't stand her hair hanging over her food. Unhygienic. And unappetizing. Not sure what CTV was thinking with this show..maybe a lame attempt to create Canadian content programming.

Needs help!
dancesk18 January 2024
First of all she slaps hands with guests and then cooks without washing her hands. Ugh!

Long hair hanging over the food? I wouldn't eat it.

The bangs and glasses are too much.

Adding ah after words is very immature, She's not 14.

When interviewing a guest, she says uhhuh after every sentence they say. I find that the most annoying of any of it.

She needs to LET THE GUEST TALK AND SAY NOTHING!

I can't believe producers don't see these problems and try to correct them.

You can't put a novice person in front of a camera and expect them to know how to conduct a one hour program.

They need training and guidance which she apparently is not getting.

Hopefully they will see the light!

You ah
shirleydohei-002158 December 2023
Not sure where she learned to talk. She uses words and adds "ah" on the end and sounds ridiculous. And she is so perky- almost to a point of phony. Get rid of her soon! She talks with her mouth full. Tastes stuff while talking. As she comes out to the show, she is hugging people and squealing. Her Mum also drives me crazy. I am a 75 year old and she is too much. Hopefully she is cancelled soon! I used to really love watching Marilyn but this show is nowhere close. Seriously I don't think she is what early morning watchers need. She tries too hard to be perfect which is not necessary in this works now.

Delish is not a word
hamilton-duane16 April 2024
I try to like this show. She cooks good recipes. Can not handle her 1 word vocabulary 'Delicious, Deliciousness or DELISH'... shudder.

Not sure her age but the bangs haircut is whack. As mentioned she isn't a great interviewer, it seems very fake. Almost ass-kissing bad.

When she prepares food she is very messy. You seldom see other tv cooks slop the ingredients. They try to make an eye appealing plating.

I understand this is her first year hosting so she has to be given some slack. I have her show on now in the background and no word of a lie she has said Delicious, brown'nwss, Deliciousness, Delish 6 times.

*update May 1* Nope can't do it. Adding 'ness' to every word is mental. Then the 'ah' to every word. And incessant use of 'babies' God take this person off tv.

  • continues to uh-huh everytime guest is speaking or talking over them.
