Owners Amy and Samy Bouzaglo were initially able to cash in on the notoriety of their "Kitchen Nightmares" appearance. Their restaurant became something of a tourist attraction, and they even marketed t-shirts emblazoned with quotes from the show ("I speak feline MEOW", "Here's your pizza, go fuck yourself"). But the couple's continued erratic behavior, and a firestorm of criticism on social media, finally forced Amy's Baking Company to close on September 1, 2015.
Amy Bouzaglo and Samy Bouzaglo were documented performing an illegal act, taking servers' tips. Amy also intentionally made a customer's food spicier in order to hurt that customer. Other customers' food was never brought out to them, and host Gordon Ramsay's burgers were poorly prepared.
At the time, Samy was actually facing deportation over having not informed the immigration authorities that he had been banned from France and Germany for drugs and extortion. Amy had also served time in federal prison and had liens and judgments against her.
According to Samy and Amy, in a 2021 interview with The New York Post, they tried to stop the producers from airing the show on Fox; this ultimately proved futile. They also claimed Gordon 'sabotaged' their ordering system, although they never elaborated as to HOW he did so in the first place.
