Maybe there's hope for this season

Warning: Spoilers
This is the first episode of this season where i'm finally reliving the characteristic sex education warmth and humour. I still can't shake the thought that this season is rushed and just generally poor made; the plot is weak, the transitions (which i remember being almost seamless) are awful, otis and other characters have lost their depth, the dialogue is so forced or so fake.

Aimee has kept her charm and her and isaac are probably my fav current thing going on right now. Maeve's stylist is amazing, maeve looks great in every scene. I wish they'd give more importance to maeve's mum's death but that's probably a me thing. I can't believe this is the first time maeve and jean are meeting? I like that a lot if it is, seems smart.

I love this series but ...

I was a little late to the party with this show. I powered through the first 3 seasons, but have been slowly getting through this 4th season. It's fallen a bit short. This is not unusual with shows that have been on for awhile or are winding down. Stories get thin and characters become less enjoyable. Eric was the first one to lose me. I loved his character from the beginning but the way he handled the Adam situation was bad in my opinion and frankly made me not like him as much.

The new school this season has the worst people. From the teacher that tried to use the old headmaster for sex to the students that go on about how they don't gossip when they really aren't nice people.

Maeve frustrated me in the last episode when she made her best friends wait in the car for what seemed to be an entire day while she did a crossword puzzle. I've lost my mom, it sucks. But that was rude. I feel like the supporting cast, Aimee, Ruby, Isaac ... have made this season worthwhile.

Thank you

The portrayal of post natal depression in most media more often (when you say, orphan) than not makes me feel weak or small or embarrassed or compartmentalised or judged. This just made me feel relieved. And a little bit less alone.

Gillian Anderson has been phenomenal this whole time, but seeing her nuanced, vulnerable, strong portrayal of early motherhood (and isolation in general) is both heartbreaking and comforting.

The other storylines are a bit hit and miss. But no more than the other seasons. And I assume that's because they cover such a broad range of topics and emotions. The 'misses' from me are likely 'hits' for others.

This used to be my favorite show

Wow, how the mighty have fallen. The fourth season is a shadow of its former self. The "O" storyline is infuriating. The new schools are a joke. The character development is awful.

I used to like the story, the characters trials and tribulations. Now, this show has become cringe worthy. Another thing, the show used to have the best music; now it seems that they've decided to save some money and gone with generic background musak and sprinkle in a song here and there.

This has been rant surrounding the whole show, but this episode is really awful, and it's the "O" storyline alluded to earlier. The show, while wild and avant garde but used to be grounded in reality. Anyway, watch the first three seasons and just make believe the fourth season didn't happen.

Cringe
marcomanieri-6251130 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Otis is useless, selfish af, absolutely shallow, his story line is worthless and irritating. Wanna be a therapist but acts like the most entitled kid unable to have a single, just one, healthy relationship.

The funeral thing was cringe and pointless, the woman of the funeral home seems out of a 2005 comic movie, all the comedy part was just cringe and avoidable.

They are overcomplicating everything and there is no way they can sort everything out in 3 episodes:
  • Otis suddenly cannot have sex
  • Eric and the church
  • Meave and the writing thing
  • Adam and the horse girl, Adam and the parents
  • The full list of shallow, worthless, new characters

Either the next 3 episodes are 3h long or this is going to end up in a worthless mess. Everything that was good from previous seasons is lost. Maybe just a hint of Amy's storyline is developing.

Let's bet that new storylines will pop out also in the next episodes.

What happened to this show. The time is totally wrong now.

Warning: Spoilers
They completely wrecked this show. The tone is really odd. Eric and Otis fighting? Why? All of a sudden Otis no longer "understands" Eric? Why?

Maeve stopping Amie from seeing Isaac? Why? Why would Maeve care one bit. She discarded Issac when he broke her trust. Now she is going to stop Amie from seeing Issac after she pushed Aimee to be friends with Issac.

This show is all over the place now. Also O is a terrible , terrible character. She's the worst. Also the actress playing O is amazing.

Long story short I am enduring this last season and not enjoying it at all. This show jumped the shark so hard.

I HATE THOSE WRITERS
Skanama26 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
After 3 seasons of wait all we wanted was finally a good romance/sex scene with Otis/Meave because their relation is amazing and is the heart of the show. But of course they had to destroy everything up because everyone teenagers on this town have to be tho fking honest ! It's not even cleaver or interesting, It's just so annoying that the writers dosn't lett otis and meave having the romance they deserve, that WE deserve.

They always find stupid excuses for not letting Otis and Meave being together, they dont even try to hide it anymore. Just stop and lett Meave and Otis being together !!!!!!

Embarrassing
chris_rowe-881-16882030 September 2023
This show started out so edgy and cool, it was fresh, it didn't conform, pick sides or follow set rules of stereotypes which was nice, like every show though they've gone full over to the way the world is going, what I find genuinely scary is people think that this is good or progressive.

The fact they're all in therapy is a bad start but their interactions, their "personalities" they're all fake, there's constant passive aggression, there's control, manipulation and gender domination, but they've masked it behind being "better" people. They're not, so many of these people who grace your phones aren't role models, such a tiny % of people seem to have all forms of entertainment fixated on them and it's getting tiresome, the group Eric joined I felt was too much. It took the tone away from reality to make believe.

This is before you see how bad the writing is, how pathetic the characters are and realising the only people worth watching are the extras, Adam, Amy, Isaac, Jo, Martin and especially ruby have been the stars this series as frankly the main characters are genuinely terrible. Not remotely likeable or endearing, hypocritical children acting like they're deep adults.

Glossing over the fact they look ridiculously old for this stuff, also being 18 why would police need your parents? Or are they still pretending these mid to late twenties people are mid teens? Insanity.

Maeve was once the edgy cool girl but now she's just a mumbly annoying pathetic mess, she's so insanely selfish, self indulgent and narcissistic. Stealing booze? We get the moms died but the writing is so desperately trying to avoid a love story it's spat at quality and made this garbage instead. Maeve uses people, so mean to poor Amy. The whole "cool" vibe died, she's now just a tragic mess.

Gene, was sn afterthought given a storyline to keep her busy rather than involving her properly. Blows my mind they have Rebecca out of Ted lasso and don't use her more.

Eric is so cringe, so easily manipulated and persuaded, he instantly believed Otis no longer gets him, for no reason other than colourful people don't like straight people (but it's ok if it's the other way round) his outfits, acting, just too out of reality for me. Do not understand how this dude is Dr Who! He's just extremely shallow and has lost all the good characteristics he used to have.

Lastly Otis, he's such a drip, he's uncool, however that's irrelevant, the fact is it's ludicrous thinking a supposed kid can walk into a college and just say their a sex therapist and expect it to be so, even more insane that there's already one employees! I know we are in the generation of people pretending to be deep and layered but I can't believe people would queue let alone to see someone like Otis. Kid is a child. He's so immature, over dramatises everything, like this episode,, was an easy excuse, ruby wants revenge, we worked and dozed off, yet it's now a drama? It's so tedious.

His patronising nature, his I know everything voice when his life's a mess and his relationships are literally all unhealthy makes the shoe even more annoying for me. Aesthetically he's not a great looking guy, I find it unbelievable that both ruby and Maeve would be that interested in him. He's another selfish ignorant narcissist.

The extra characters are great.

99% of the storylines are just based on poor communication. This show died in series 2, it's rotten now.
