Tom Atkins plays a character named Frank Cochran. In Halloween III (1982), which started Atkins, the antagonist's name is Conal Cochran so the name is likely an homage to that character.
The opening comic ad is for "Lady Frankenstein & Creepshow T-shirts" which depict monsters from previous episodes: The Companion (1.4A) and The Man In The Suitcase (1.3B)
Tom Atkins was also in Creepshow (1982) playing the angry father who didn't want his son reading Creepshow in the film's wraparound segment. This makes him the second actor to have appeared in a lead role in both the original movie and the series, next to Adrienne Barbeau, who appeared in season 1.
The comic panel split screen effect, specifically of a car driving up to a large mansion in Something Burrowed, was also used in Creepshow (1982) when Bedelia drives to the Grantham Estate.
The previous episodes depicted in the comic pages flipping at the end of the episode are: Shapeshifters Anonymous (the Holiday Special) and The Companion (1.4A), both shown over two pages.
