The two detectives describe the murder scene they found to the chief and, after Biff Shawn says, "Yeah, it was like a nightmare," all three of them look to the camera and scream, referencing a similar gag from "The Young Ones" (1982). Having Black Death interrupt the detectives arrest and take them away with him was also based on "Young Ones" material.

Lisa hides in the shower and a similar Psycho-esque theme plays, as the killer rips open the shower curtain, except Lisa is waiting with a shotgun and shoots the attacker.Halloween (1978)
Halloween '87 parodies Halloween, having a masked killer terrorize a small town on Halloween.Miami Vice (TV Series 1984–1989)
The two detectives are a skateboard punk version of Crockett and Tubbs and dress in a similar manner. The final piece of music used as score is "Evan", from "Miami Vice" (1984).
