Kaiji, Liar Game, Death Parade, Alice in Borderland, and Btooom! all follow this model to some extent. As the Gods Will predates Squid Game by six years, but there’s fascinating crossover between these two death game stories. As the Gods Will is the...

Out of nowhere, Bandai Namco decided to end the Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour event with the surprise reveal of Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 4, and audiences are losing their collective minds. Some people are probably wondering what’s the big deal. Why develop a sequel for a series that hasn’t been touched in over a decade? Well, we might as well start from the beginning.
Just what is Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi? This series was the second premier Dragon Ball Z fighting game franchise. The first, Dragon Ball Z Budokai, was developed by Dimps (which most recently produced Dragon Ball: The Breakers) and was a 2.5D fighter that plays like a slower version of Dragon Ball FighterZ.
Budokai Tenkaichi, meanwhile, is a 3D fighter (think Naruto: Ultimate Ninja) developed by Spike (which eventually merged to form Spike Chunsoft and create the Danganronpa series). The Dragon Ball Z license notwithstanding,...

“Squid Game” has taken Netflix by a storm. This Korean survival drama ranked number one in 90 countries as of last week. Major news outlets like CNN and Wall Street Journal have raved on about it, as dalgona memes have flooded social media. Netflix CEO Ted Santos even admits that this might even become one of the Ott platform’s “biggest shows ever” — as it is well on its way to surpass “Bridgerton”’s viewership of 82 million.
It’s almost ironic to think about how these two shows are so extraordinarily popular – but are also just so different. While “Bridgerton” paints a picture of an elite family in Regency-era England, “Squid Game” explores the underworld of the indebted. Here, Lee Jung-jae stars as Seong Gi-hun, an unlikeable divorcee. He treats his mother – who houses and feeds him – with disrespect; he lies to his estranged daughter on her birthday; and, not to mention,...
