This is a really good movie. Not perfect... and yes there is not a 100% conclusion or ending. Which happens with about 1/3 of the movies we see. Very interesting and thought provoking on "What would you do" if you are put into this horrible situation. It's worthwhile. It will make you stock up on water and food ! I don't understand the "1" ratings. I've never given a movie that low of a rating, and those do not make sense to me. It's a very watchable movie. I ignore "10s" and "1s".... they are people with an agenda? Not sure. No movie is a "10"... and no movie is a "1" ..... (trying to get to 600 letters .... This is a really good movie. This movie gives you a glimpse of what might happen in the event of a catastrophic event. It shows how your values can determine your response to challenging events. It demonstrates how many different types of people cope under the same stressful situations and how they each make decisions that affect others. My husband and I enjoyed it. It was well acted by all characters in the story. It was not overly religious as some reviewers have commented. A simple, albeit, clumsy prayer by a teenage girl and a loving wife who would share her belief that God could help was the extent of the verbal religious talk but mainly it was a quiet undertone of faith that prevailed. Great movie!!
I've been greatly impressed by the movies that have come out of Angel Studios so far, and Homestead didn't disappoint.
The opening scenes get right to the point, and they are gripping: Several families are going about their daily lives when the nice, safe, comfortable world they're used to suddenly explodes, as what is believed to be a nuclear bomb is detonated in Los Angeles, and implodes as society descends into chaos as people fight for survival.
The movie raised some important food for thought: In the case of a national emergency or, in this case, apocalyptic devastation, would I be prepared? For example, would I know where to go and how to get there if the GPS wasn't available? .
The focal point of the story is this extremely wealthy man, Ian Ross, who has built this huge homestead with everything necessary for he and his familiy's survival. A couple of his friends and their families, as well as the sister of his wife and her family are invited to come live with them if the bottom ever drops out. One of the friends is a hardcore military-type whose commando buddies are recruited to provide private security.
The situation seems almost too perfect. But the Ian's desire to simply survive until government help can arrive is pitted against the threat of hungry and hostile invaders and dealing with the pleadings of a daily barrage of desperate and starving masses at his gate - some who are friends of his, all while being aware of his homestead's dwindling resources.
The story progresses pretty fast, but not at the expense of diialogue and drama. Maybe not the high-drama stuff of Ocars, but the acting was solid, and there was enough tension, human interest and action to keep me thoroughly engaged.
The producers showed a trailer of the next episode in what's planned to be a series on the Angel Studios website. It looked intriguing enough to keep me tuned in.

Not having read the book, I saw Homestead. It was a good story. There were some technical details on the initial "attack" that were off from reality. The movie brought up several good points on what one should have prepared for a disaster. The stories were good and the characters were believable. The topics brought up our legitimate and something I didn't think of. I really liked the product that Angel Studios has put out over the last few years. It is much better than the crap that Hollywood has put out. I really admire Neal McDonough for sticking to his principles and I am glad that Angel Studios is producing several shows with him in it!
Anyone saying they thought it was a stand alone film never spent more than 3 seconds looking into it before going. I thoroughly enjoyed it for what it was. It ended on a hopeful note and could have ended there, just like every movie that is left open ended for the option of sequel, this one made that a possibility. The difference? This one has the next storyline already available! It showed a pretty realistic order of events as to likely happenings, and how fast things change. It shows the reality of the haves and have nots and decisions that need to be made. It also shows the reality of what you might be willing to do to survive. I think it was a great stand alone, but I think it will be an even better series.
People complaining that it is a "series pilot" are being ridiculous, no one ever complains about the first movie in a series that is left on a cliffhanger, so why are they complaining now?

I believe the movie should have stayed as a series. It's a good plot a decent story line. But not enough excitement for theaters. I'm going to continue to watch the season. But it shouldn't have made it to the movies. The trailers looked great but u showed some of the best part then.i took my mother to see it. We were excited to see it til we watched it. We both wondered why it was brought to theaters. It's not something I would buy to see again. Love the plot line just needed more to be a movie. Should have kept it as a series on TV. My opinion. But by all means go see it for yourself.thanks for letting me see it.

I generally like post-apocalyptic films. I am not a fan of the overly gratuitous fare like the Walking Dead. Not that the WD is bad, I just don't think my psyche can handle the blood, guts, and gore anymore. Homestead was surprisingly good for several reasons. The film presented some interesting and perplexing dilemmas that seemed pretty realistic to me. Some of the situations I had not seen presented before. I also thought the writing, directing, acting, score, and cinematography were all pretty solid. The main weak point for me might have been the editing (maybe the director is to blame?). But some scenes were unnecessarily slow and others maybe not necessary at all. I don't mind long films that develop character and plot slowly, as long as it's done well. Homestead could have benefited by a 10 minute cut. Overall a great film with a satisfying ending, although the story continues, the film ended where it should have.

I'm glad I saw the initial film on the big screen because the view is more impactful. I rated the film 8 stars because I believe the production quality and character chemistry is good. The concept of surviving a nuclear threat is probably on most people's minds these days, as is helping your family to become more sufficient with food and energy usage. Somehow I hadn't known this would become a series, so like many, I was confused at the ending. I have now watched the first two TV episodes and the storyline is unfolding. I wonder how many seasons will result and how far this plot can be carried. The violence is a little difficult for me to watch, but I'm sure violence will result if people are desperate to eat and have safety.

As Angel Studio subscribers, we had two free tickets to the movie. After getting our tickets for the show, I read the reviews on here before we went. They are pretty negative and had us worried. We even talked about going to a different movie instead. But I'm a huge Neil fan and we figured if we didn't like it, it meant we got in a good hour or so nap in.
The gripe that many had was that this is the pilot to the series. Knowing this going into the movie really helped my expectations, so thank you!
I thought the movie was well done and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I cannot wait to get home and continue to watch the series. So as long as you go into it knowing that it is going to continue, but you don't have to wait another year for the second or third parts, I think you could be pleasantly surprised. Yes, it's to get more folks to subscribe to their platform. It is a good one. I'm not religious and I still enjoy the movies they put out.

Movie isn't bad at all, starting series soon. It isn't the best movie, but definitely worth watching. I just want to see where this actually goes and if this may end up being the end as we know it. I love disaster/end of world movies, especially if they are leaning more to the Biblical prophecies.
I see a lot if people talking about how much faith themes are in the series, that is the point and is made by Angel Studios. Nothing wrong with religious themes in films. I am sure a lot of people would be praying to God and talking about their God(s) in this kind of situation. Christian films/series or movies/series with religious themes does nit make something bad. Just watch it as a movie and ignore the stuff. Just shows reality of how people would be during these times.
