It seems like Mary Queen of Scots, sent to French court after her supposedly secret convent was breached and a nun poisoned (presumably at the hands of the British who want Scotland for themselves), has been thrown out of the frying pan and into the fire. She is not definitely not universally popular in France, and there is no guarantee that her engagement to the French king will hold - there are a lot of political machinations to play out. And, worst of all, someone highly-placed in the court is trying to kill her. The English arrive with their own agenda in tow, adding an extra layer of intrigue, forcing Mary and King Francis to pretend that everything in their relationship is fine. Life in the 1500's is certainly complicated!
