- The Salinger-Hofer family from Vienna are hoping for plenty of nature and a life away from the hustle and bustle of the big city when they move to Rotten, father Matthi's home village in Tyrol. Daughter Alma suffers from severe asthma and the mountain air is supposed to provide relief. Her mother Lucia will take over the village doctor's surgery, while ex-café owner Matthi wants to look after the children for the time being. But in their new home, the family of four is confronted with unpleasant circumstances: Mould is growing on the walls, the boiler in the cellar is making eerie noises and Alma seems to be having psychic encounters. In the middle of the night, a young woman knocks on her window and hands her a ring - it soon turns out to be Marianne Wild, an environmental activist from the village who disappeared over 40 years ago under unexplained circumstances. Alma also sees Marianne again in the village shop, while everyone else present denies the presence of a young woman with red curls. Was it a hallucination? The exuberant imagination of a highly sensitive girl? Faced with her mother's lack of understanding, Alma becomes petulant. Yes, there was someone there, she wasn't mistaken. When Alma sees Marianne standing on the opposite side of the country road and approaches her as if spellbound, she narrowly escapes an accident ... When the confused neighbor Aurelia asks Alma about her missing daughter's ring, Lucia is unsettled. Was Alma telling the truth after all? Something doesn't seem right here .
