I've got a confession to make...I saw this third episode first. I knew it was the third episode from "Fit to Rule" but considering I am a retired history teacher and am well aware of British history, I didn't think it mattered which order I saw the shows...and I found this one first on YouTube. So why did I decide to see it, apart from my love of history? Well, I've seen quite a few shows hosted by Lucy Worsley and I like her down to earth style.
If you are looking for a thorough look at the Hanovers (who later changed the family surname to Windsor), then you may well be disappointed in this one. It begins with Queen Victoria...but oddly, stops with Edward VIII...skipping George VI, Elizabeth II and her children. Perhaps evaluating the private lives of the current lot is considered either distasteful OR too big a task...either way, you won't hear of them. Instead the vast majority of the show is about Victoria...focusing on her mental illness and unwillingness to be a public figure. Then, it follows the more public images of Edward VII and, briefly, his son George V. Overall, modestly interesting and worth seeing...but too incomplete for such a title of the episode. Additionally, apart from Victoria, not much in this was related to the overarching purpose...royal illnesses.
