It’s spring again, time for an AMC’s annual tradition of meetings with the writers/producers of the scripts the network brass had identified as the strongest pilot contenders. The pilot script showcase, nicknamed by agents and producers a “bake-off,” includes a series of presentations, in which the auspices of the selected projects lay out for top AMC execs their vision for their show beyond the pilot with the help of visual aids, including demo reels. The network would not comment, though I hear at least five drama scripts are being spotlighted. That includes the Scott Free-produced World War II drama Raiders, which also made the cut for the script showcase last year, three projects from AMC’s March 2013 development slate: Ashland, White City and the Dahvi Waller Project, as well as one drama from the network’s recent March 2014 development slate, The Sparrow. Of last year’s three scripts,...

Exclusive: AMC‘s foray into sci-fi is being put on hold. The cable network has passed on drama pilot Line Of Sight, from Brotherhood creator Blake Masters. Co-produced by Fox TV Studios and AMC Studios, it centered on Lewis Bernt (David Morrissey), a National Transportation Safety Board investigator who survives a mysterious plane crash, bringing him on an emotionally disorienting quest to discover the accident’s cause. Line Of Sight, which emerged out of AMC’s 2013 annual script showcase, was the first sci-fi project to get a green light at AMC. It co-starred Sarah Clarke, Kai Lennox, Olafur Darri Olafsson, Omar Metwally, Samantha Mathis and Chinasa Ogbuagu. FtvS plans to shop the pilot elsewhere. AMC has two other pilots in the works – Knifeman, set in 18th century London, and the post-apocalyptic Galyntine – as well as straight-to series Breaking Bad spinoff Better Call Saul and a companion Walking Dead series eyed...

The Driver, about an ordinary man who makes a terrible decision, is a three-part thriller from BAFTA Award-winning screenwriter Danny Brocklehurst (Shameless UK). The Walking Dead‘s David Morrissey will play taxi driver Vince McKee, who blames himself for a family mystery and accepts an offer to start driving for a criminal gang. But, says the BBC, it’s ultimately a redemptive story about getting a second chance under incredible circumstances. Jim Poyser co-created the drama which is co-produced by Morrissey’s Highfield Pictures and Red Production Company for BBC One. Jamie Payne (Doctor Who, The White Queen, The Hour) is director. Ian Hart, Colm Meaney, Shaun Dingwall, Claudie Blakeley, Sacha Parkinson and Lee Ross also star. Morrissey, who is also toplining AMC pilot Line Of Sight, is executive producing The Driver for Highfield with Nicola Shindler for Red and Polly Hill for BBC One. Producer is Jolyon Symonds (Breathless...

More zombies? Yes please. More shows of the caliber of The Walking Dead, about the zombie apocalypse? Yes. Please. As the president of AMC says, it’s a no-brainer. Yes it’s a great line, but it’s also an excellent point. Given the stunning success of the show, why wouldn’t they?
The Walking Dead comics creator Robert Kirkman will be an executive producer, joined by the two other primary Twd executive producers, Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert. Although it will be set in the same world as Twd, it will be an otherwise entirely new storyline, outside of the comics series. It’s currently hoped to be on our screens in 2015.

AMC clearly likes David Morrissey when he’s being murderous and psychopathic. At least, the Us cable channel likes his work on The Walking Dead, where he plays the crazed Governor. He’s now scored a new pilot with the company, locking in the lead for Line Of Sight. The potential new series promises a lot less eyepatch-wearing torture and scheming, as Morrissey will be playing Lewis Brent, an investigator for America’s National Transportation Safety Board who is involved in a mysterious plane crash. While he survives, he becomes determined to find the cause. If you enjoy seeing Morrissey obsessed, chances are you might appreciate the show, which is described as "the genre-bending odyssey of one man, who, after surviving the crash dives head first down the rabbit hole on an emotionally disorienting search to find out what has happened to him. He becomes a man whose entire sense of self,...
