it's for kids
bkblakley7 September 2020
A lot of adults in these reviews are trying to act like this movie was meant for them. It wasn't. It's a cute movie for kids and most of the kids I know lived this movie and all the other buddies movies. Don't be so harsh if you didn't like it because the target audience did.

It's OK.
Shopaholic3515 November 2014
People are being a little too harsh about this movie, after all it is about a group of talking superhero puppies. I must admit that there is a slight lameness about this movie though. It's hilarious when a group of adults create a film that is trying to be "cool" when in fact it's not. I'm not sure if they're doing it ironically or if they're really trying and are just totally clueless.

The whole thing is utterly ridiculous but the cuteness factor is off the chart which makes the movie bearable. The human's acting annoys me the most though. It's goofy and idiotic and insults a child's intelligence. It seems to me that people think kids are getting dumber...and the truth is they probably are since this is what they watch nowadays.

Overall not too bad but this is definitely the worst movie out of the entire Disney Buddies series.

Weak
laurenwhite9722 February 2014
It is a "family friendly" movie in the fact it contains no bad language, violence, adult themes, or actual violence. My 6 year old niece loves it because it has adorable little puppies. However, one thing did annoy me very much. It was rather sexist. There is only one strong female character and she is victim of a stereotypical, hyper-feminine personality. Personally, if I had daughters i would not let them watch this movie. There are several strong male characters with their own personalities, but the female is, of course, stereotypical. The writers could not have been more shallow and two-dimensional. Find another movie, like Ponyo. :)

Being for kids isn't an excuse
Bundle_Exists29 August 2022
Im tired of people giving movies like this an easy time just because its a kids movie. Megamind, The lego movie, and Spiderverse are all infinitely better movies, and are all by a count, kids movies. This movie has no effort or care put into it, and is nothing but a cash grab. Watched it with a friend for fun, and it was a slow movie filled with nothing, no comedy, no drama, no suspense, no entertainmemt outside of laughing at awful cgi and the awful dialogue. Disney has the money to make a good kids film, because they have, countless times, but this is clearly just an attempt of theirs to make a quick dollar.

*sigh* Really?
tarmuffin6 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
As though the clichés weren't even used enough, this film just had to hammer in the infamous superhero cliché mix. Now, where do I begin on how awful this film is... I know! How about how the main character (the kids in other words) aren't even the same (yet again), the MacGuffins ("the Rings of Inspiron") are nothing more than just stupid colored rings, and the CGI sucks (especially the aliens.)

The only thing that I am rather pleased about is how John Ratzenburger is in this film. He's the only reason I can tolerate it...

That, and how the sheriff acts after being body-snatched...

So if you're reading this, Mr. Vince, please do the right thing and kill off the franchise. Seriously, I cannot tolerate having to watch stupid genre after stupid genre of the same cutesy puppies...

Sincerely,

Mr. FilmedMuffin (idiotic beginner reviewee)

There's bad, then there's Super Buddies.
frankiacopelli23 June 2015
Air Bud was a really good movie. I still like to watch it today. Why Disney executives had to make air bud and his children overstay their visit, I don't know. The movies just seemed to get worse and worse. And the series really does show, recycling constant jokes that we've heard in the other movies. Not to mention, in this movie, its execution as a superhero movie has been done so many times beforehand that it's not even that big of a deal anymore. The clichés are so obvious, and you could see them coming from a mile away. I think that even kids know that this movie franchise has way more movies than it should. And should another installment be released, expect me to return until these movies stop being made.

It Is For Kids
JesuslovesU13 July 2023
This movie is aimed directly for kids. It is not one aimed at "the whole family".

There are kid movies, like 3 Ninjas, with cheesy dialogue, even cheesier scenes and cringy acting and this is one of these.

That being said, my 5 year old son loves it. He laughs and grabs me to show me and exclaims "that is funny".

While adults may want to run away kids, like my son, will enjoy it.

There are a lot of people complaining that this direct to video movie is bad because it's not like the.theatrical movies. It's not meant to be.

My wife walked in and smiled at my son watching it, then looked at the scene and the smile turned into a ooooookkkkkk. Enough said.

A canine superhero movie for the entire family...
paul_haakonsen11 May 2017
The children and young ones will definitely like "Super Buddies", that much is guaranteed.

I sat down to watch "Super Buddies" together with my 6 year old son, whom enjoyed the movie quite a lot, and he was especially smitten with the puppy superheroes. And as an adult, I must say that the movie actually turned out to be fun enough to watch. Sure, you take into consideration that this is a kids movie, but it is still entertaining.

The story told in "Super Buddies" about five puppies that accidentally become superheroes and must work together to stop a shape-shifting bully from outer space.

Sure, this was as campy and corny as it gets, but again do take into consideration that this is a children's movie. And trust me, the story will sink right in with the kids. I can testify to that, because my son was thoroughly amused throughout the course of the movie, and he was often rooting for the puppies at the screen.

The puppies had been trained well, because they performed quite adequately on the screen and it was a joy to watch them mill about doing their cute acts.

"Super Buddies" is actually a wholesome family movie that is well-worth taking the time to sit down and watch. We happened to enjoy it, and I am going to rate it a solid 6 out of 10 stars.

Terrible

This movie is completely freaking stupid! I don't understand the story. Super dogs what? I'd rather watch superman IV over 8th a movie. Do not watch this!

Great movie for the kids!
alley_m4 October 2013
Watched this movie with kids aged 5yrs and 9yrs and they both loved it. If your kids are fans of other Buddies movies definitely check this one out. Nice to have a Superhero movie aimed more for the little one's (no heavy violence, adult themes etc). It is very kid friendly and funny.

Interesting story about a comic book and Aliens from another planet along with the regular Buddies and their kid owners. My kids loved to see the other talking animal characters too.

(And for the adults, it was nice to see John Ratzenberger again, and the voice of Colin Hanks was a nice surprise!)

Also has a great message for kids about working as a team. Highly recommend it!

People in the reviews: THIS IS A KIDS MOVIE
pgillavila-8435612 July 2022
This is a children's movie, but everyone in the reviews are complaining that it's not realistic and a bunch of other dribble, which are sort of valid, it's just that it's a dumb kids movie and their acting like it's something to be taken seriously. Aside from that, it's a cute kids movie about magic dogs. It's actually pretty good for a kids movie anyways.

How A Series Ends With A Whimper
jeremycrimsonfox23 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Super Buddies is the seventh film of the Air Buddies series, a spin-off the Air Bud film franchise that has started in 1997, Sadly, the spin-off suffers from lots of issues, like making the animals talk, disregarding the events of its parent series, and worst off, each title after the first was a different cliché.

In this one, Disney decides to go and try the old superhero dog cliché again, as the Buddies find rings that give them superpowers. However, they are tracked down by an evil alien who wants them for his own evil plans, and must team up with another alien who has disguised himself as a dog to stop him.

Basically, the first problem with the film is its superhero theme. Being released six years after the box office bomb that is Disney's Underdog, you'd think Disney would take the time to learn what went wrong with that film and either fix them or avoid repeating them with Super Buddies. In fact, replace Captain Canine with the 2007 incarnation of Underdog, replace the Buddies with puppy characters who gain superpowers, and replace the villain with an alien-themed Underdog character like Overcat and you'd have the perfect recipe for a DTV disaster known as Underdog 2.

But no, this film has the same problems as its license-based predecessor and a lot more. The Rings Of Inspiron, the source of the Buddies' powers, are basically just a Maguffin, since the villain wants them to rule an alien planet, and Captain Canine, a.k.a. Captain Megasis, wants to bring them back to the planet Inspiron. Also, the movie has too many superhero clichés that has been done to death, and the aliens, who are done in CGI, look like they were originally created for a failed attempt to reboot Eureka's Castle (I mean, I saw the end with the princess, and she moves as if she was a full suit Muppet).

While this film may be a hit with kids, adults and superhero fans will see how stupid it is. Thankfully, after this was released, Disney had the common sense to finally put this series down, letting Air Bud finally rest in peace with what little dignity it has left. There are way better superhero cartoons and movies for kids out there that I would recommend over this franchise killer, like The Incredibles, The Lego Batman Movie, and even Big Hero 6.

Kids will love it, Parents will suffer through it.
rajaat9926 April 2014
I randomly came across this movie. My son (3 years) loves super heroes and dogs, so I thought he would love it. I was right, he loves it. He says it's the best movie ever!

I think the acting is pretty awful and I can't stand the dog that talks like what an adult thought early kids in the nineties sounded like.

This must be what John Ratzenberger does with his time, when he's not doing voices for PIXAR.

Go ahead and watch it with your kids, if they're young and enjoy movies about dogs. However, remember that the acting is about as good as you average student film.

And the movie about it, with cute little animals...
RosanaBotafogo11 March 2023
They Talk... They Laugh, They're Great! Disney's adorable talking puppies finally arrive for a fantastic adventure in the icy Arctic and an exhilarating dog race across Alaska. When the going gets tough, the plucky pups team up with their new friends, Talon and Sasha, to tackle the furry complications that come their way. But can they win this race and find their way back home? Join the Snow Buddies for lots of fun and action in this new heart-warming movie that teaches us the power of teamwork and following the rules. Our own dreams and features all-new bonus materials!

One more from the Buddies franchise, the last one, amen, hehehe, cute and cuddly, but tired of the doggies... "Rule number 1 for superheroes: you don't need to have super powers to be a superhero." Just like in life, the real heroes are those who seize the moment and the opportunity to do the right thing, usually with altruism and kindness... And the movie about it, with cute little animals...

It's for the kids
savinainenpihla10 July 2021
I can see why older viewers might find this ridicilous but it's a kids movie about talking super dogs. My sister has watched this like a million times and enjoyed it more each time because it was meant for children her age. The story doesn't need to be that complex and the jokes worked on her pretty well. I can't really comment on the voice work since I didn't see this in english, but I guess the acting was okay, we were more focused on the dogs anyway.

Loved it
sharkylyzuer18 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Man, I love this show. Even though it was made in 2013 the graphics are definitely better than some shows now. It's definitely better than the new TV series I just found out about. I don't know why people don't like this show that much. Maybe people didn't like stuff like this, and maybe now they're okay with it.

The alien did look a bit weird though. The graphics and effects are bad but they're not horrible. The pups are funny, and I really liked B-dawg. Budderball looked a bit funny with the super strength muscles.

Overall it's not horrible as people might say it is.

This show is something I could watch again if the new kids shows are just not good.

A CAN'T MISS!!!
kajgregg26 February 2023
This movie is gold! So glad it won an award! Truly the actors worked hard to out on this movie for adults and kids! Not all heroes wear capes!!! Pure cinematic entertainment! We are watching it for the 16th time this week! I will say this film may cause your kids to believe your dog is also a secret super hero. Things to look out for: your dog leaving for an abnormal amount of time throughout the day, your dog has super powers, your dogs being "too cute", and lastly if your dog talks. This psychological thriller comedy is truly for all ages. There were times you needed to pay attention and surprise seems occurred.
