Battle a victory, TV programme: a noise.
I really wanted to watch this. My dad was wounded out of the war at this battle. The tank he was not driving that day was hit, and the driver was killed. My dad got off with a dot of shrapnel in his wrist, a dislocated shoulder, and a perforated ear drum. I suffered more trying to watch this. I lasted about three minutes. The relentless music; sometimes in the background, but often loud and in the foreground destroyed it for me. It was a constant distraction. Unnecessary and unwanted. Had the film been soundtracked with just Kate Adie and background silence, I could have watched it. Sadly, this is a growing trend - everything must have a soundtrack. Eventually, Coronation Street will have a soundtrack. I hate these unnecessary soundtracks with as much vehemence as I hate the American laughter track - may they burn in Hell. I haven't watched it, and I won't. These soundtracks are just too intrusive and distracting. Please stop them. Let's appreciate silence. Are the directors just giving their musician friends work? You ruined this for me as you have ruined, and continue to ruin, so many films and TV series. Just the human voice. I am a human being aware of feelings. An image and story-line supplies sufficient feelings. I don't need sad music to make me feel sad; I don't need angry music to make me feel angry... and no amount of audience laughter will make something funny if it is not! DVD stands for Digital Versatile Disc. I will not be happy until these discs become truly versatile and present the background/incidental music track as a separate thing that can be deleted. Shame on all involved in the soundtrack travesty.
