Enjoyable

Warning: Spoilers
I bought this game on the Xbox Live sale, and I have to say for an arcade game (not on a disc) it's still fun and quite large. It takes some getting used to, but there's nothing way over the top or weird. It's simple. Scavenge for supplies. Work with other survivors. Oh, and Kill zombies. It does seem a little odd that zombies come out of nowhere, as soon as you arrive at a location. It's not overly difficult or annoying, just keeps you on your toes. If you like zombie games without zombies that are Hulk-like, spider man-like, xenomorph-like etc, then you'll like this. Graphics are simple but good. One good mechanic of it I do like, is being able to pretty much explore every building for supplies, and being able to store stuff in a vehicle.

If your a zombie fan, I believe you'll like this. Just don't expect guns blazing action. They can hear loud noises and will come for you. Only use guns if you're desperate. Good luck and have fun!

State of decay, probably the best zombie game in the city

State of Decay, is a pretty good game which I would recommend to anyone who wants to make their own base and survive. The game takes you to trumbull county, a local town suffering from a massive outbreak of black fever, which has caused most of the civilians to die and reanimate to become zombies. You play the role of a small group of survivors who are struggling to survive the apocalypse. You must build a suitable safe haven, build structures that could help you and your survivors, and scavenge for basic resources (such as food, medicine, and materials).

The game is pretty well designed for a arcade game, its pretty advanced, there's a wide variety of weapons, ammo, gear, and zombies for you to get and fight. You will also get a very tough fight due to the fact that zombies get more difficult as the game progresses.

State of decay has 3 modes (or 2 dlc's and the main game). The main game itself where there is a storyline you will need to follow. There's Breakdown which is basically a sandbox mode where the difficulty increases when you continue on forward. And last but not least there's lifeline, another smaller campaign that takes you into the eyes of greyhound 2. A military unit stationed in Danforth that is trying to evacuate important personnel and civilians while surviving themselves. Here you will get brand new buildings, a new map, and a new set of characters that you will be working with.

Personally I love state of decay. Its one of those few games that's isn't like call of duty Nazi zombies. You need to care for survivors and scavenge for resources. not to mention hunt for special zombies that can kill you quickly and painfully. Although this game doesn't come without problems. They game frequently has small and big glitches which range from small tiny bugs (like tiny map problems) to much major problems (such as vehicles glitching and breaking easily). Another problem is about useless things and buildings (such as oil, and a medical lab (truth be told it can only make painkillers). but overall the game is pretty neat.

Meh
First of all I didn't finish playing this game. I owned the Year One Survival Edition, stopped playing it after 4 hours. Of course there are some good things in it but these are the things in the game that makes it unbearable for me: Controlling camera view manually all the time is not my cup of tea at all. * Boring storyline (lack of interaction between the characters) and the characters have no depth. It's hard to care about the characters survivability except that if they die, you might not be able to play as them. * So many playable characters/heroes. I've tried playing 4-5 different characters but there are nothing significant in terms of characteristics & impacts to the story. * Killing zombies (hack, slash, shoot, crash) becomes tedious after quite a while. * No cool cutscenes. * Some annoying game bugs in it that i cant remember.

I expected GTA + The Walking Dead/The Last of Us but instead i get GTA + Left 4 Dead. GTA missions are still much more interesting than this though.

Definitely not the best bucks i've ever spent. Just try it if you really must.
