Terrible Homecoming
doug2go18 January 2024
I was glad to see Severide back but the show itself left a lot to be desired - his welcome home after a years' absence was non existent - he appeared at different times in scenes and not in others creating a patch work for his presence and clearly he was not all there for the shooting of this seasons premiere - No explanation as to why he stayed away so long, or why he was back or if he had his old truck back ( they have 2 trucks and 3 LT's) - I can see his promotion to Captain in the future to clear up the chain of command mess - the writing for this episode was sub standard and the direction could have been better but the showrunner is primarily responsible for this convoluted story that had no explanation or direction. Seven is the lowest rating I have ever given this show.

Warning: Spoilers
Welcome back, Chicago Fire!

For a moment or four towards the start of the seven 12 premiere episode, which takes place six months on from last year's excellent cliffhanger, they really had me believing that we'd lost poor old Mouch, so seeing Christian Stolte pop around the corner - looking lean and mean, no less - was a relief. Knowing how these Chicago shows enjoy killing off characters we know and love without fear or favour, I was ready to think the worst when we saw Hermann admonish another firefighter regarding removing Mouch's name from his locker. Safe to say, Chicago Fire would be less of a show without Randall McHolland on it. We are spared that eventuality for - I assume - at least one more season.

Firehouse 51 is, however, going to be down two familiar faces: Gallo is already basically out the door, headed to live with family in Michigan and work in Detroit. We also find out that Sylvie accepted Matt's wedding proposal, because she gets her engagement ring caught in her locker. Cool way to spill those beans. Brett and Casey will be getting married in six weeks in Chicago, then moving out to Oregon afterward. Not news: Kara Kilmer's pending departure has been out there for a while.

It's going to be very weird without Kara Killmer, a long-term cast member - Brett has been one of my favourite characters, having admirably filled the big shoes of Leslie Shay. And strange without Alberto Rosende's Gallo. The character grew on me, and I always figured he would end up with Violet. Alas, that couple is not to be.

As has Taylor Kinney's return: things between he and Stella are still a little dicey. Don't mention the A-word! (Arson, if you were wondering). Which complicates matters with an arson targeting fire houses. Stella is torn between not wanting to lose her obsessive husband to another arson investigation, and also not wanting any of her colleagues to fall victim to the arsonist.

A strong episode: action, intrigue and all the interpersonal relationship dramas that have made Chicago Fire (and, indeed, all the #OneChicago shows) so compelling. Can't wait to see what happens in this truncated season.

One Fireman Goes and One Welcomed Back...Make it Two!

Warning: Spoilers
Welcome back Chicago Fire. And not just one firefighter but another firefighter.

Severide is now back. And that his actor Taylor Kinney who had gone on through a mental health break is now back. Jesse Spencer's Matthew Casey seems to be gone for now.

But what I am happy about being back is that of Mouch. As really very much was very worried that he wouldn't at all in the returning after the season finale last time before the strike.

But glad he is back and sure that Trudy his wife from PD, is more than happy as love those two together.

Firehouse 51 has to share with Firehouse 17 to get them to work together. Despite the room being crowded.

Carver and his character leaving for another fire fighting place. Will be missed but hope the door will be opened for his guest star.

Kara Kilmer's Slyvie is about to leave but hope she can return along with Jesse Spencer's Matt.

Welcome back Chicago Fire!
