Poorly written episode
egdix9 February 2024
Although I would like to blame the actors for this episode, I think the problem lies with the writing. They have nothing to work with here. Delving into the Israeli/Palestinian crisis opened the door to a multitude of interesting avenues but they seemed to keep it as basic as possible as if the viewers were not smart enough to know what is going on. It felt like the writers were out of their of their depth tackling this issue. I felt that the writing got a bit better near the end of last year, and you would figure they had a whole off season to kick of the second year of the reboot in style. This wasn't it. Hopefully the next few episodes will improve.

Miss Jeffrey Donovan Now!
shelbythuylinh31 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Love Jeffrey Donovan on the "Burn Notice" and hope he can really reboot it if it comes to that. But that even though I didn't like his character that much and was OK and Meh.

But now the new guy over in "Veep's" Reid Scott new Detective Riley as he is really very much coming off very unlikable here. Know I need in the giving him a chance but that he really needs in the character development and plus that he will get some time getting used to.

Jalen I liked from the start. As glad Lt Dixon is one to keep her detectives and other officers in check.

Nolan was even much more tougher but at least he is not a McCoy as the difference is Nolan is a great lawyer but a better person. McCoy is trying to be a better person but really keep Nolan.

As the case is about a professor of Jewish descent murdered and in the recent events over in Israel-Palestine that is going on in real life. Very sad this is happening.

Higher learning
safenoe27 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Nearly 30 years after the release of John Singleton's movie Higher Learning, we have Law and Order's Freedom of Expression, which is quite on point on various fronts, and there's kind of a tragic prescience in the plot. Reid Scott makes his debut as Detective Vincent Riley, replacing Jeffrey Donovan who left over "creative differences" whatever that means, but we'll never quite know. Anyway, Reid Scott looks like British-Scottish actor John Hannah. Anyway, there's a lot here in this episode to digest, freedom of speech, freedom to protest, plagiarism, university presidents, you name it, you've got it.

Freedom of Expression
bobcobb30131 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I wish that we had gotten a bigger explanation of why Cosgrove was gone other than "his words caught up to him" which could mean almost anything. I guess they wanted to leave the door open for a return down the road, but that seems highly unlikely. We didn't really get a reason for Bernard leaving last year either.

This was obviously a ripped from the headlines tale and they didn't make it too obvious where they stand on the Israel situation which you like to see.

I just don't think these political episodes do much to benefit anyone. They either alienate people, or they throw common sense out the window.

Lacks Heroes and Laughs
keithotisedwards16 February 2024
I see that most of the negative reviews here are unhappy that this is not just another good guys vs. Bad guys story where the cops gun down the villain in the end. Instead, this is a realistic depiction of life in America today. None of the characters are particularly likable or worthy of rooting for, nor is the situation cut-and-dried right-and-wrong. Everything about this 45 minutes is unpleasant, but that's a realistic program. Deal with it.

If this series persists in reruns years from now, as long as Charlie's Angels has, it will present future generations with an accurate account of the world situation in 2024. If you want heroes vs. Villains, go watch Batman.

Even The incredible Scott Bryce can't save this mess.
Racingphan220 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Scott Bryce, better known as Craig from As the World Turns, made his second appearance in the Law and Order universe. Unfortunately, he is killed off in the first few moments.

Law and Order likes to pretty to be hip by hitting the latest headlines, so of course, they attempt to jump into the curent crisis of anti-semitism. And they bungle it miserably.

It doesn't help that the current pair of detectives are a bland pair of poorly acted duds. And the returning prosecuters are similarly boring and unwatchable.

Law and Order's biggest crime? Wasting the incredible Camryn Manheim. Build the show around your best actress!

A tale as old as time
kyrenaika24 January 2024
Once again, L&O has gotten on the right side of history. Echoing the sentiments of the righteous, they have woven a tale as old as time. Complicated characters provide a backdrop for the headlines of today's problematic world. The new editions to the squad are a breath of fresh air and will surely bring back the old glory days from when the show was new. Not enough can be said for the need for the new direction. And the writing is supreme. Outshines the past few years, to say the least. Hope to see more of the same in the future and if this is any indication, surely there will be. More of the same.

Everything wrong with modern L&O and more
oisindolan10 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
New seasons are so incredibly formulaic and the grabbed from the headline nature of every episode is tiresome

Especially it's tiresome when it uses as an ongoing genocide in Gaza to make up a story to paint students protesting for peace as mindless brainwashed killers with their strings being pulled by cartoonish open antisemites. Utter rubbish and offensive to anyone with a conscience or a brain.

Law and order it truly over. It has nothing to say of interest and every story is roughly the same bar the details. Probably half of the last 2 seasons episodes had a puppet master storyline. Please just be a normal cop/court drama again.
