Tokyo Grind Sessions
residentgrigo26 November 2016
I am a longtime fan of both franchises and this crossover is a clear cut Persona light (in every sense of the word) with combat elements and names from Fire Emblem thrown in. Imagine a very fluffy and upbeat version of Persona 3, with minimal time jumps between chapters, and less involved "social links". The game's story further sucks and features about every shounen anime + power of friendship cliché there is. It is also technically a harem game but none of these relationships go anywhere. That's what happens if all your characters are J-pop idols, I guess, and the game's version of Tokyo completely revolves around idol worshiping. The horror. The game further lacks many comfort functions, as proper fast travel or battle animation skipping. You can also only track 1 quest a time! You can't play it on the gamepad alone too, due to it being burdened with menus for the sake of it. Meaning that many hours of grinding will be done in front of your TV, due to the surprisingly changing difficultly. The highly tactical battle and character building systems are great though and the actual gameplay flows well, if you forgive the crazy amount of backtracking. I ultimately had fun, despite the game, and what else is one supposed to buy for the WiiU? Just don't expect it to feel very "modern" and more like a PS2 era game. 6,5/10

PS: Look up the harmless, yet utterly ridiculous way the game was censored. BigN even re-recording sizable parts of the Japanese dub, but the original game is more tame than let's say Persona 3 or 4. Lol.
