For me, I find watching murder mystery shows to be hit and miss. There is either the issue of them solving the crime too quickly and then making you wonder why the show wasn't made into a mini-series or, like Pretty Little Liars, the show drags out the mystery so long that you sort of stop caring. With Twisted, I find Danny to be a really appealing character for I like the fact that you never get real footing on whether he killed someone or not, because all you need to see is him giving a devious smile and then you are lead to wonder if he is playing with everyone. But, as the show goes on, it does seem like they are really trying to push the idea that sociopaths aren't necessarily violent, but can be highly manipulative.
Which leads to an issue I can foresee me having with the show. As of this episode, the show starts to fall into clichés which I was really hoping it would try to avoid. The first, and probably one many foresaw, was a love triangle, if not web. Personally, I was fond of the idea of Danny being friends with two girls and showing that guys and girls could be friends without it eventually leading to romance. To add onto that, I personally loved Jo and Rico's friendship and hoped it would evolve, and thought Danny's feelings for Lacey were put aside to respect the fact she was with someone. However, in this episode they dashed all my hopes and dreams by showing, and making it a hash-tag, Jo likes Danny and then having Lacey cheat on her boyfriend. Then, to add onto the clichés, the ghost of Regina shows up and we get a mysterious letter from someone telling the deceased to keep their mouth shut. All that is left is for Danny's father to show up, since after all his body hasn't been discovered.
Probably one of my main issues though when it comes to the love web developing is that it diminishes Jo's character in my opinion. In many ways it seemed like she was changing for herself and in order to maybe actually spend high school doing more than just attending. Now though, it almost makes it seem like she is competing with Lacey and the reason she got more social is because she sees that as what Danny likes. Add onto the fact she can rebel against her dad a bit is just icing.
However, I must admit that I still have hope for this show. The murder mystery part is still intriguing, and though the personal drama is wearing down on me, I like the fact they are bringing the opinions of the adults in. With this comes a new angle for Danny doesn't really interact with them, so winning allies isn't as easy as making one look bad, as he did Archie, and then winning sympathy or at least making his enemy look bad. In many ways, I think Danny is probably a sociopath since they are really driving the definition in, but I think he probably didn't murder Regina. He might have been there or witnessed the murder, but he didn't do it. But, with the way this show is, I could think he is innocent one minute, and the next we see him trying to wash a shirt and we see a piece of Regina's hair or find something of his with blood on it. So, even though clichés are starting to work their way in, there remains enough questionable characters and moments to keep this from becoming mundane.
