Yippee....Caribbean coral reefs!!
I should be up front about this particular episode. I loved this one mostly because I do a lot of diving in the Gulf and Caribbean Sea. So, unlike many of the episodes of "The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau", I recognized pretty much everything the divers were seeing. So, when they showed various hard and soft corals, trumpetfish, sea wasps and many other creatures, I felt at home-- happy to see the Calypso crew among reefs I have enjoyed. In this case, they were diving around Jamaica. Among the many interesting things they talk about is coral aggression(!), how they took a lot of care NOT to harm the reef (something the crew were NOT so concerned about in early episodes of the series...much to my horror as I re-watched the shows recently) and the wonderful sponges. All in all, a very enjoyable episode. My only complaint is that the Jamaican waters weren't nearly as clear and beautiful as those in the nearby Bahamas. Well worth seeing and very relaxing to watch.
