With the information given to him by Hugh Hayden-Hoyle, Ephra challenges Atika's long held claim that Kasim's father was their driver who died when she and Nessa were kidnapped in Gaza eight years ago. Before the kidnapping, it was a good time for Ephra and Nessa. His daughter Judith had just been born, their foundation's investment in educational facilities were now bearing fruit and Shlomo Zahary's was about to roll out phase 1 of their telecommunications project. Nessa left for Israel the following week to officially open the new computer faculty they've funded and there met Atika, her translator, for the first time. When Nessa learns that the school knows nothing of a recent $1.5 million donation she and Atika head to Gaza, an area the Steins do not deal with. It's there that they are kidnapped and held for ransom. Ephra clearly knows more than he's letting on and contacts Julia Walsh, then Head of the Middle East desk of MI-6. She has strong advice for him.
