Strange, stupid but enjoyable.
planktonrules30 May 2015
"Golan the Destroyer" is not among my very favorite cartoons on "Animation Domination", but it is still quite enjoyable (I prefer "Axe Cop" and "High School USA"). The show is about a demon who's been tossed onto the Earth to live with a clueless human family. Their strange Goth daughter instantly bonds with Golan and becomes his willing servant. They have a variety of adventures that show that Golan is a jerk--but a mostly harmless one despite his bluster and threats to destroy mankind.

The animation for this one is decent but unremarkable. What makes it good is that it is creative and very unique. Sometimes I find myself laughing and enjoying it simply because it is so strange and wrong! Well worth seeing for strange viewers--'normals' will probably just find it all too weird and confusing.

Season 1 was better
jacoblesinski1 May 2020
Season 2 feels like it is trying to be more modern to appeal to a more jokey and 'zany' cartoon style. Much atuned to Family Guy. Releasing season 2 as a whole new season even though they are basically the same episodes as season 1 was really lame.

Season 1 was more original, had an identity that was its own. The art style was just great. The jokes were more unpredictable and darker.

8 stars for the original

3 stars for the reboot season.

Why is the reboot not listed on IMDb as being a separate show?

A charmingly dark romp that manages to entertain from beginning to end.
Patrickreagan19 February 2015
At first glance Golan the insatiable looks like the sort of show filled with profanity and cheap humor. As a result I was reluctant to give it a try, however i am certainly glad I did. The structure of the show itself is pretty simple, it follows the misadventures of Golan, a brutal god- lord and dark ruler from another realm, and his best friend/ squire of sorts, Dylan, a 9 year old goth girl. Though Golan may be an evil dark lord, he is primarily concerned with his young companion and the dynamic between the two of them is really quite charming. Though the show contains its fair share of crude humor, the show itself is actually pretty smart. Situational Irony combined with both dark humor and subtle plot themes make the show really quite amusing. The most impressive aspect of this show is how it manages to be both dark and silly. Going in with an open mind, this is a show that most anybody would enjoy.

Bring Golan Back!!!
kevinsenn-854696 October 2015
This show was funny and needs to come back. So many people have wrote negative reviews about this show which I don't agree with. Yeah, it is a little different and it is a little twisted but that is what makes the show not only good but unique. People need not to judge so fast. Look at the show Family Guy, it aired, people judged, they stopped airing the show, and then years later it aired again and is now on it's 14th season with very high ratings. Golan could have done the same thing if people weren't so quick to judge and just opened their minds a little. I know that I am disappointed and sad that this show wasn't given a chance and I will miss watching it. Bring Golan Back!!!!!!!!! **AZJETSFAN**

A raunchy show done right!
rishikaushal-1390021 July 2015
Golan the insatiable is indeed a somewhat raunchy show, A young girl named Dylan and her sorta best friend dark demon overlord Golan try to cause as much havoc as possible, hilarity (and massive destruction) ensues, not exactly your standard show! However like many other adult cartoons it tackles certain issues in society, but not directly which is nice since it can be a bit suffocating when shows seem to shove certain issues into our faces. It does remind me a bit of shows like Rick and Morty with the silly humor and relationship between the 2 main characters (though the characters themselves are so much more different). Regardless it does have a very unique feel to it. A lot of the humor is rather dark or flat out stupid which actually makes for some very original and funny gags! (While it is on a more personal level I did find something funny in every episode that caught me by surprise, though everyone's comedy sense is different), I feel like the overall animation is actually not too bad! While it is a very simplistic style the animators are able to pull off some very nice scenes! and they do spice things up from time to time. I don't believe the show is visually unpleasant like those shows that are gross just for the sake of being gross, though It can have some grotesque scenes (usually nothing cringe worthy though!). It does help that the show doesn't completely rely on one character for the audience to cling to in order to enjoy. While Dylan can be very relatable to a human audience, Golan himself can be so ignorant and in his own ironic way "human"! that I often found myself comparing to him than all the other characters! Though one thing that does trouble me a bit is how one dimensional some of the side characters can be sometimes (except for a few of them such as Dylans mom).

While the show seems a bit under-appreciated for the things it does do right, I feel like this show would deserve no less than a solid 7-7.5 overall in terms of animation in addition to humor and story, The fact of the matter is this show is very hit or miss for people, I gave it a 9 since It was so much more enjoyable to me. You may either lower or raise the score in your own mind depending on what you find funny as well as your societal views (If you're an open minded person you may enjoy this show much more!)

Maybe it's just an acquired taste...?

The description of this show states that "Buffoonery ensues" from the premise for this show. Well, I don't know that I would call any of this "buffoonery".

The animation quality isn't all that great, but then neither is South Park. But South Park has better writers, and some hilarious situations. Golan is lucky to give you a laugh an episode. "Funny" is not the same as "absurd".

Golan also seems to be a bit schizophrenic about its style. There are a lot of bodily-function references, some leering at women, and a general contempt for the family that, for some reason, puts up with this "visitor". But it has relatively mild language, perhaps in the hope that it will be suitable for family viewing. Somehow, I don't think it is going to be a major threat to "The Simpsons" in that department.

Sorry, Golan, but you should go back to that alternate universe from whence you came -- and don't let the door hit you on your ample backside on the way out.

8 for season1, 5 for season 2 extended time remakes, not the same feel.
surfisfun22 April 2021
Season 1 worked well with it short 10min episodes style.

Season 2 is a disaster with it 22 min episodes that have the same content in some episodes then the the previous season, a bad move as they dont feel as snappy and try to spoon fed the viewers.

So watch season 1 weird season .

Skip season 2 .

Not Terribly Impressed So Far...
MovieHoliks15 June 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I am a long-time fan of Fox Sunday night programming, which has been at the heart of "animation domination" for some time now. David Letterman once joked with a guest who I think was one of the voices of one of those shows- "they're playing nothing but cartoons over at Fox, huh??" LMAO And he has a point- for Sunday nights anyways. It just seems that any live-action sitcoms they try on that network- on that night- fails. "Bob's Burgers", "Family Guy", that institution known as "The Simpsons", and over the years, "Futurama", "American Dad", "King of the Hill", "The Cleveland Show", "The Critic", etc.. etc.. the list goes on and on.

Now with the latest, "Golan the Insatiable"- which I look at sorta as an animated "Beetlejuice". Unlike that film, however, so far I'm not terribly impressed. I've only seen a couple episodes so far, but don't find it all that funny- the animation is pretty bad (maybe intended that way I dunno??). But I'll probably keep watching for a few more episodes. Sometimes it can take these shows awhile to find their rhythm...

To the unfunny Canadian
rjones-1902513 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
***kindasortapossiblyifyoustretchyourimagination spoilers ahead***

Golan is enjoyable. Killer Narwhals are enjoyable. Having both in the same series is doubly enjoyable.

I would have thought Canadians would get killer narwhals since they're both citizens of the cold north.

Golan should be put on another network since it was quite enjoyable.

Another fun show by the same creators of Drawn Together
elonmusk-is_a_moron22 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I love Drawn Together. I consider it to be one of the best adult animated sitcoms ever made, and it is such a shame it was so short lived, being cancelled before its time.

Being a huge fan of that series, I decided to give it a try to the other show where both Dave Jeser and Matt Silverstein also worked, and I wasn't disappointed: Golan is a fun, deranged show with many points in common with Drawn Together, particularly on its use of black comedy.

The titular character reminds me a bit to Captain Hero, being prone to outrageous antics and unpredictable mood swings; I think this short does a better job with the premise of a villain protagonist becoming the father figure of a troubled little girl than the corny Despicable Me movie, being unfortunately nowhere as succesful as that movie.

Shame Golan was even more short lived than Drawn Together. Maybe it was due the ugly animation: While I like the writing of the show, I do have to admit it was pretty bad looking, with most of the characters having a weird appearence and inflated butts. Not as bad as Big Mouth, but not very appealing either. The original story published online used a Tim Burton-esque look for the ilustrations, no idea why such cool aesthetic wasn't used in the cartoon.

Another reason why this show failed was probably due censorship. Since the shows was in Fox instead of Comedy Central, the jokes never went to the shocking extremes of Drawn Together, feeling a little bit more tamed in comparison.

In addition to that, I think most of Fox watchers only want to see shows similar to The Simpsons or Family Guy, and refuse to give a chance to any series that diverts from that format.

Maybe if the show had been in Netflix it would have been a little bit more succesful. Who knows.

The original stories published in Something Awful are pretty fun, try to check them out!
