Warning: Spoilers
Olive continues throughout life to show that cold veneer, with those snappy answers. It's as if she is afraid of life and everything she does seems to have an adverse affect among others.

The situation where she is held hostage with her husband and others at a hospital almost becomes comical in nature when the two use the occasion to yell at each other in an effort to express their emotions.

I believe that Olive is beyond bipolar. She seems to have an inability to form positive relationships with others, and this constantly manifests itself following her husband's stroke and confinement in a home for 4 years.

Olive continues to have it with her son, now on his second wife. A visit with them turns out to be a disaster, and Olive arrives home only to find out that her husband has died.

Can Olive assume the role of a Helen Trent past 35, but finding some meaning with Bill Murray, whom she meets at an awkward situation?

Robbery

Warning: Spoilers
I can't shake how the armed robbery on a slow night in the hospital felt like a contrived way just to get Harry and Olive to exchange some hard truths and release their pent-up frustrations of their marriage. Perhaps this could have been achieved in another way that wasn't so extraordinary and happenstance as an armed robbery in Maine. It felt so out of place with the rest of this story, which evolves so effortlessly and naturally over a lifetime. This is my only criticism of the series.
