Forgiveness and love
Jackbv12331 March 2024
Aimee Teagarden is one of my favorite actors committed to Hallmark. She has done several movies for them that go beyond the simple rom/com and I think they have been something special. This movie, also, goes beyond the simple rom/com. It is more focused on Amanda's relationship with Lori, but the romance with Derrick is at least a close second if not equal in significance to the story.

I always cringe at two things especially when they are linked. The premise is to save the family farm by winning a contest. Amanda is a complete novice at floral arranging, which seems a little odd given that her farm is the source of flowers for arrangements. The movie takes a shot at explaining this and is mostly successful in that regard. But for the novice to even hope to complete with contestants with years of experience, especially Constance who has won several, is the prime example of why I cringe at this premise. However, that hail-Mary hopefulness is not that unusual with this premise.

But, viewer, don't lose hope. Instead of the usual plot line where the romantic interest helps prepare for the contest (or competes against her, or both), Derrick has nothing to do with teaching her the craft. Instead, his mom, Lori, is the sensei and Amanda is, not the grasshopper, but the ladybug. There is some definite creativity in the writing despite the overly common premise.

There seem to be a few subtextual themes. The most dominant themes are love and forgiveness. I think I will need to watch this again to explore the interplay of those different themes and see if there really are more than just the two.

Teagarden and Benjamin Hollingsworth have some romantic chemistry despite their relationship not getting the majority of the screen time. Actually, Teagarden and Frances Flanagan have good chemistry in a mentoring relationship. In short, the acting is good. The dialogue is good but not quite sparkling. The issue of the farm's financial future is the central tension, but it is not overplayed as is sometimes the case. This movie is more about relationships than financial problem solving.

Two secondary criticisms. One is the ending. All I can say is that it is overdone, but so are most Hallmark movies. The other is a question. Is that view looking out at the farm in bloom live or a mural, or perhaps a green screen? The appearance was idyllic and had a fake feel to it. It looked like a painted wall about 10 feet past where the actors were standing.

Was this on the wrong channel?

Warning: Spoilers
While I've always been a fan of Aimee Teegarden, this was really stretching to hold my fandom. This movie in general had me scratching my head. The flashback scenes didn't match for me. How old was she in the past to flash forward 15 years? She's 34 in real life. She doesn't look young enough to pull off that young of a character. Besides characters ages in flashbacks that just didn't make sense the plot was just plain rough. Like my title implies, was this a Great American Family movie? The overly religious overtones was just a bit much for a Hallmark movie. Her flower training was very minimal and Mr. Miyagi like where as Constance was in constant training mode she was out for walks. Derrick's character wasn't working for me either. His on and off again southern drawl was maddening. He acts like is the 15 people in the congregation knew he mountain climbed, it was as if he was a criminal. The story itself was actually kind of boring. The CGI was just about laughable each time they showed it. Hallmark movies are usually lighthearted fun and I enjoy them for what they are but this one was rough. Good luck, I know everyone sees movies in a different light, hopefully you see this one in a different light than I did.

Good but something is missing
kategobe2 April 2024
This movie sounded like something I'd enjoy watching, especially because it's Hallmark romance so by design, I'm at least guaranteed some kind of happy ending. The movie started out well with a clear story. Then, it all struggled to flow and click together.

Let's start with the good. I like the emotional touch to the story, it's more meaningful than the classic colleagues vying for a promotion or Christmas reindeer games we've already seen so much of in this genre. I also like the actors a lot individually. None of the main actors seem fake nor does their performance feel forced so in terms of acting talent, this one is of the better quality amongst soft romance tv movies. Additionally, I love the flower farm theme. We usually see the flower thing in wedding movies so I like that this is a little more rugged.

Now, the bad. Although I never struggled to understand the story as a whole, it does seem to be a bit bare throughout the middle. It's a story that starts out at the right pace and then just gets rushed a bit. Along with what I assume to be mediocre directing, this all waters down the connection and relationship development aspect of the couple. By the end of the movie, it sort of felt like they'd hardly talked. In reality, they have about as much interaction as in any other movie of the kind but in reality, it felt rushed. I think this is probably on the director and perhaps the writer.

Lastly, I must admit that I found the heavy religious focus quite uncomfortable. If you are a devoted Christian, you'll probably like this aspect but as an agnostic person, the whole thing was quite preachy. I can normally handle mildly Christian movies just fine but in this one, it almost seems as though the only thing the couple talked about to each other was the preachy part, which ruins the romance a bit for me. It is an Easter movie so I'm okay with a little Christian touch but I don't like it when it feels like I'm being preached to.

Generic and sad
MickyG33331 March 2024
7.4 stars.

A woman and her mother are about to lose their flower farm. They need an early spring for any chance of saving it. The father and husband passed away last year. The woman needs money in order to save the farm, and she can obtain it if she wins a contest. There is a man in the picture as well, he's a pastor. Maybe he can help her.

Wonderful and beautiful and charismatic actors don't always amount to a good film. We have a plethora of cream-of-the-crop performers here. To me they are the best of the best for wholesome family genre movies. The leads are among my favorites and the two women at odds with one another, are very recognizable. Some of the other supporting cast are semi-regulars.

There is so much missing with this story, yet all the ingredients are present. 'An Easter Bloom' is what I would flag as "too familiar". In other words, this is one of those stories that has every single repetitive aspect that every movie of its kind has shared over the past 10 years. The only problem with this, is that it's been overdone. Last year (2023) there was an obvious trend of new ideas, fresh plots, and a variety of other small changes and nuances that have helped the genre move into the next phase. This movie is stuck right in the middle of 2020.

Either way, I don't get a lot of satisfaction from this particular style of telling this story. Had they kept up with the times, maye it would be more relatable. Not sure what's missing, but certainly the the lead female is miserable, and too good at it. The lead male's attempt at enthusiasm and encouragement is insufficient to bridge the gap.

Flowers Flowers Flowers

I enjoyed this movie but could not give it a high rating. Same old same old plot of misunderstanding The two leads are very good , nice chemistry and believable. It was a little slow to develop and the ending was a little predictable but overall a cute movie. I do feel here again Hallmark writers could have done do much more. Excellent cast beautiful scenery and not enough substance. There was very little development of the CB cast and could have done more with the two leads. I hope Hallmark can get out of theses predictable plots because they are wasting good acting and not developing their cast parts. There are no spoilers but than again it's the same old story.

This was a feel good Halmark love story with a religious bent that I enjoyed up until some bad writing at the end.

Warning: Spoilers
Aimee Teagarden is lovely as Amanda, a daughter and flower farmer who is missing her father. Benjamin Hollingsworth is a handsome new minister at Amanda's church. The conflict comes as a few years of colder weather have reduced the u-pick flower farm's production and Amanda and her mom are going to loose the farm. Amanda conveniently helps Lori after a car accident and to repay the favor Lori teaches Amanda floral arranging with it's five principles, in order for Amanda to win an Easter flower arranging competition...win $20,000 and save the farm. In another coincidence, Lori is Derrick's (the new minister) mother.

I appreciated the lessons in floral arrangements about harmony, etc and I really appreciated that they built the love story slowly. I also kind of like the results of the floral arrangement competition. What I didn't care for was suddenly at the end turning the farm into a wedding venue when that was never brought up in the entirety of the film!!! That seems like a huge continuity error that was thrown in at the end. Also, I found Derrick southern accent to come and go a bit...but I did like it when it was there.

Should come with warning...

Church, God and prayers all the time. It was almost offensive to non-Christians.

I understand, Easter is a Christian holiday, but it is also a spring holiday. Too bad we didn't see anything except the Church. So a big disappointment on my end.

The story line about the pastor, who likes adrenaline and is ashamed of it, was downright ridiculous.

Unfortunately, there aren't many good Hallmark movies this season. I'm waiting for a new episode of Curious Caterer and hope it gets better.

Maybe the Church, God and prayers will help. I am sorry, but I felt really akward to watch tis movie and almost could not finish.

I Loved This!

Wow! This story gave honor to God!

Thank you Hallmark for sharing this amazing movie for our celebration of Easter! In so many ways, all throughout the story, this movie gave glory and honor to God. There were several different people who were dealing with personal struggles and difficult situations. As the story progressed, each of these people found peace and hope and love for their present and future times.

Please continue to make movies like this for those of us who have faith and love for God. It was fun to watch the stories unfold and the troubles turn to happy endings! And thank you to all the cast and crew for making this great story come to life!

I like them happier.
MIssM194 April 2024
Amada and her mom are about to lose their flower farm after a rough winter, so it occurs to her that she can get into a flower arrangement contest and win usd 20 000 to save said farm. So she meets Lori, flower expert and also mom to Derrick, the brand new pastor in town.

This story is about grief and finding hope again. And while it can be heartwarming for some it may be sad for others. Personally, I liked the story but going through grief myself it reached me in some way that I prefer a Hallmark movie doesn't since these movies tend to be a happy place to me. I like them funnier and happier, and preferably, religion as a side theme.

Boring!
dalear31 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
It took a herculean effort for me to get to the 55 minute mark. I've always found Aimee Teegarden's performances to be a hit or miss.

In being enjoyable. Right off the bat her younger self at about 12 years old (by another child actress) is shown. Then it flashes forward 15 years to the present day. Aimee looks closer to 40 years old, than the 27 year- old her character was supposed to be.

The love story was blah. I have to say I think the last two months of new Hallmark movies have been sub-par!

I wonder if this has anything to do with a bunch of Hallmark actors and actresses jumping ship for GAF?

Flowers, forgiveness and romance
akiwigirl31 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
As per Hallmark there were holes in the storyline like Constance just giving away the prize money to people she didn't know well to save a business. It's not like they were a charity At the very least a normal person would check the financials to see how viable the business is. It made no sense.

Still I find myself saying I liked this movie. The Easter message was spot on, Aimee and Ben were delightful and I liked their pairing. The acting was alright all round actually. And there a load of nice moments like when Derrick ordered his very specific drink. Weird combo but loved the exchange he had with Amanda.

Also loved the flower theme with it being Spring it made me happy.

only the flowers
SnoopyStyle28 April 2024
Part-time coffee barista Amanda Raymond (Aimee Teegarden) has eager new customer Derrick (Benjamin Hollingsworth). Her family's flower farm has been struggling ever since her father's death. She just doesn't have her father's green thumb. Retired florist Lori Matthews tells her about the Easter floral arrangement competition with $20k prize. It's her last ditch chance to save the farm. Derrick turns out to be the new pastor.

I do like the flowers although the vast vistas of flowers look fake. It is obviously special effects. Quite frankly, they should find a greenhouse to film. As for Teegarden, her character is so sad and she's playing sad girl very hard. Derrick is a bit of a dud and he's a pastor. He can't exactly be flashy. I also don't buy his big tip in retrospect. It's not like he has one of those mega-churches. This is a bit flat and the sad tone is not Hallmark's calling card.
