Producer Adi Shankar, the guy responsible for bootleg short films like the R-rated Power/Rangers and Venom: Truth in Journalism, has been hyping his upcoming animated television adaptation of the popular Nintendo video game Castlevania for a while now, and when the teaser trailer was released last month, fans finally got a taste of what he was talking about. Now, in […]

Remember the unofficial short film “Power/Rangers” that came out in 2015? Well, now the producer of the dark and violent reimagining of the “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers,” Adi Shankar, wants to make the film adaptation of the classic “Mega Man” video game franchise. “I’d love to do a hard-r ‘Mega Man,'” Shankar said in an interview with Wwg.

The self-described “massive gamer” is now producing a new animated series for Netflix based on the dark fantasy video game series “Castlevania,” set for release later this year on the streaming giant. “If I’m not a fan of something and I don’t organically understand what is cool about it, then I’m simply not going to get involved,” he said. “Even though I have one foot in the door in Hollywood, I’m not trying to rape and pillage culture for profit.

Adi Shankar is not your typical movie maker. Along with producing features, including Dredd, The Grey, and A Walk Among the Tombstones, he also worked on a number of short films, like Venom: Truth in Journalism with True Blood’s Ryan Kwanten, and the dark and gritty Power/Rangers short he made with Joseph Kahn. Now, he’s directing his first feature film, and it’s a superhero movie, no less. But what’s most interesting is the insane cast he's put together. According to The Wrap, the film Adi Shankar’s Gods and Secrets features WWE star “Diamond” Dallas Page, as well as Twilight stars Kellan Lutz (Emmett) and Jackson Rathbone (Jasper); You’re Next star Sharni Vinson; comedian Andy Milonakis; Denise Richards; Jane Seymour; Breaking Bad vet Rj Mitte (Walter White Jr.); and Glee stars Max Adler (Dave ...

Iconic video game series Castlevania is finally getting an animated TV show, helmed by Dredd exec producer Adi Shankar...
There've been rumours of an animated Castlevania series for a while, and now they've been confirmed - Dredd, The Grey and A Walk Among The Tombstones producer Adi Shankar will helm the project.
Shankar - also acclaimed for his work on high profile fan films such The Punisher: Dirty Laundry, Power/Rangers and Venom: Truth In Journalism - has promised that his Castlevania show will be typically 'ultraviolent.'
"There will be a lot [of gore]" he told Collider. "The goal is to bring hard hitting anime to America and be America’s first animated series for adults," he added, before listing Akira, Ghost in a Shell, Ninja Scroll and Young Justice as inspirations.
The series will be based on Castlevania III, which first reached the Nes in 1989. Shankar answered in the affirmative...

Producer Adi Shankar is set to make his directorial debut with a dark superhero drama for HBO titled Gods and Secrets. Besides producing feature films like Dredd, Lone Survivor and Killing Them Softly, Shankar was also behind the "Bootleg Universe" shorts, such as The Punisher: Dirty Laundry (video below), Venom: Truth in Journalism, and Power/Rangers. Last week, producer Adi Shankar released Power/Rangers, a fan film which put a dark and gritty spin on the colourful kids favorite. It's safe to say it became a viral hit, but Power Rangers rights holders Saban weren't too happy with it, getting the video pulled on copyright reasons. A deal was eventually struck, and the video made a return. It's clear Shankar doesn't really think about anything as trivial as 'rights issues' when putting together his Bootleg Universe (the collective name given to his numerous fan films, including The Punisher: Dirty Laundry, and Venom: Truth in Journalism), and he's at it again with his animated take on James Bond, In Service of Nothing. Considering Eon's protectiveness of the Bond rights, it will be interesting to see how this works out for Shankar. Power/Rangers got by on fans love of the short, we'll have to wait and see...

As with most cult films, Dredd didn’t do well at the box office in 2012. But because dedicated fans wanted more, the film’s executive producer Adi Shankar has made a miniseries based on the Dredd universe called Dark Judges, and it will be debuting online in October 2014. In an exclusive with TheWrap, Shankar revealed the 7-part miniseries will be available for free online later this month (it’s yet to be revealed exactly where the series will be hosted). For over two years, Shankar has been working on the Dredd-based project, which he initially called a “short film” in a 2013 Ama on Reddit. On September 28, he released a video for the 2nd annual Day of Dredd, thanking the aficionados of his feature-length film and saying “they turned it into a success.” Dark Judges will join two other shorts Shankar has produced related to DC Comics characters as part of his Bootleg Universe.

The producer of 2012's Dredd has announced a seven-part spin-off web series, which will be available for free...
There remains a strong and devoted group of Dredd fans who are keen to see a sequel, with the recent Day Of Dredd providing another rallying cry for those who want Karl Urban back for a second time. While we wait to see if there'll be any further developments on the cinematic front, there's been an exciting announcement from one of Dredd's producers.
Film producer Adi Shankar was instrumental in getting Dredd made back in 2012, and it seems that he's just as impatient as the rest of us when it comes to getting a further adventure made. Shankar, it turns out, has been quietly working on a miniseries based on the Dark Judges.
Shankar has form with this sort of unofficial story making - he previously brought us Punisher: Laundry and Venom: Truth In Journalism.

Ever since Dredd hit our screens back in 2012, fans have been crying out for a sequel, with star Karl Urban repeatedly banging the drum for a potential return as the titular law-enforcer. And while a big-screen follow-up remains elusive, fans will still have something to get their teeth into, with producer Adi Shankar planning a seven-part Dredd miniseries. The show will form part of Shankar’s Bootleg Universe which includes fellow comic-book spin-offs, Punisher: Dirty Laundry and Venom: Truth In Journalism. According to The...

Austin - "Everly" puts me in an uncomfortable position. Sure, nowhere near as uncomfortable as the circumstances faced by Everly (Salma Hayek) over the course of the film, a one-room action movie, but as a film critic, I find myself really wrestling with my reaction. On the one hand, I like the energy of the film, and I think Hayek is about as appealing a lead as she's been in a while as the film opens in media hell, with her as a sex slave who finds herself at a turning point, freedom in her sights, but with a whole wall of mayhem between her and escape. The film makes a lot out of its single location, and I'm a fan of films where you watch one space get more and more destroyed over the course of an evening. Director Joe Lynch directs the film like a hungry man chasing a ham sandwich,...

Heroes, meet horror.
True Blood’s Ryan Kwanten takes on the role of iconic Marvel villain Venom in the new guerrilla-style short film Truth in Journalism, directed by Knights of Badassdom filmmaker Joe Lynch.
It’s too professional to call a “fan film” but it’s definitely unofficial. Imagine The Blair Witch Project fused with a supervillain story. The gritty black-and-white tale is presented as found footage of a journalist-turned-vigilante who wants a documentary crew to immortalize his crimes achievements.
The roughly 16-minute short was produced by Adi Shankar, whose credits include the big-screen films The Grey, Killing Them Softly,...

Remember last year’s Dirty Laundry short that played Sdcc 2012, with Thomas Jane reprising his Punisher role alongside Ron Perlman?
The director, Joe Lynch (of Wrong Turn 2 and the long coming Knights of Badassdom) returned to Comic Con this year with another Marvel inspired short that takes another fan favorite character and spins a clever little story for them. Running about 17 minutes, the film, entitled Truth in Journalism, follows a shady New York crime reporter who walks a French documentary crew through his day-to-day.
If you’ve gotten this far without knowing who the character in question is, then you deserve the surprise and I won’t spoil it here. I was impressed by Truth in Journalism even moreso than Dirty Laundry and I suspect fans are really going to eat this up, considering how poorly the character was treated in a more expensive recent production..
