I just had a plot question.
Mitch-426 April 2024
I just had a plot question. What exactly *is* The Reveal? I do get that it's a post-surgical recuperation facility. But is it part of Vanessa's practice? If so, what is Astrid doing there? The opening scene has her declaring she is going off on her own, and then there was a montage more or less showing that, and suggesting some passage of time. Or is there a way a facility like this can belong to more than one practice together?

To respond to another review, I kind of agree they are not using hardball evidence-based investigation, but rather a lot of reliance on personal reactions of whether different suspects are good people, or (as they do say in this ep) relying on gut feelings and how suspects present themselves. Also the detectives who are opposing Elspeth seem to always give in with good grace when she turns out right,

Repetitive and lacks rational things
coonissimo26 April 2024
I'm feeling that the writers are not even trying to be half-serious anymore. Why even bother to have some small clues that a trained eye can catch, if it's all literally "oh it's my guts so I'm right"?

Previous episodes were at least somehow credible but it's starting to be obnoxious. The detectives are comically clueless and the main character is catching the victim at first look without any explanation or rational thinking. Honestly, this looks like a cheap trick for the writers to cut corners.

I'm okay if the show is trying to be light-hearted, it's totally fine, but can we not over-simplify things? Side characters are totally killing it (literally and figuratively) but the main one feels too repetitive.

How did Gina Gershon know the exact shade of paint to buy?
kevinbenner27 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The protesters bought the original paint, and the only chance that Gina Gershon had to examine it was when she saw it on the museum patron's shoes. So Gina runs to the paint store and buys the EXACT same paint - an exact enough match to fool a police lab test. Elsbeth took 2 minutes to explain that this wasn't a big deal, because all of the nearby hardware stores carry the same brand of paint, ok, fine. But there are about 5000 colors to choose from, plus matte vs flat vs glossy, plus at least 2-3 quality levels for any given paint manufacturer. So how was Gina able to pinpoint the exact shade and finish and quality of paint to buy? Seriously, I recently had to buy a paint sample to match a wall in my own house, and I had to study a bunch of paint cards at home under different lighting, and it still doesn't look exactly right. But Gina nailed it on the first try??? The writers should have at least made the paint be white or black, to make this a little more plausible.

An Ear

Warning: Spoilers
Elsbeth has yet to have a really bad episode, but this one was a little bit uneven for my liking. Gina Gershon never got as villainous as maybe the character should have been, and I feel like they did not get as superficial as they could have with the whole plastic surgery angle.

The Good Wife universe has always been about being over the top when it comes to the superficial elements so I feel like that was a missed opportunity, but so far this show continues to be the kind of mystery I look forward to each and every week. Even the clunkers are better than a lot of the procedurals we get elsewhere.
