As twisty as a pretzel

In police procedurals, often the suspense is generated by starting with the identity of the criminal, and then watching them slip up as Columbo or an equivalent susses out the details of the crime. For this "Major Crimes" mystery, the procedure of following evidence and putting together clues/tracking down variations and possible suspects/motives leads to an amazing set of twists and turns before some shocking revelations.

Watching the thrilling process of peeling layers off the onion was exciting and had me wondering about the Writers Room for the show: how do they decide what's too much, what script devices go too far to be credible? They pushed the envelope this time, and it was worth it!

In the lead guest female role, Emily Baldoni was terrific, and I can only wonder why she never emerged as a major star -never got that big break (or breaks) that nearly all stars (think Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock, Margo Robbie for starters) needed to propel them up the ladder.
