Emotional Journey
clarebear3691227 March 2018
Beautiful game. The graphics aren't the best but the scenery is gorgeous. The game is an emotional journey. As you go through, you're solving puzzles and advancing, but then you start to put the pieces of the plot together and find out what happened. Beautiful and emotional game.

A heartfelt game

Wow. What an amazingly directed game.

At first I was slightly uninterested in the game due to the relatovely simple graphics and textures, but over time the fantastic soundtrack and truly special art style invited me in to experience a truly special story, slowly and carefully told through the context of the world.

A truly special game to play, if you have the patience and time to see it through. If you enjoyed games like journey or unravel, this one is a great fit too.

A gorgeous game

The first thing that caught my eye on Rime is its gorgeous artwork which makes this journey phenomenal. The game is mostly story driven even if anyone barely speaks the environment and the world has excellent storytelling. The gameplay is pretty basic a button to interact some basic platforming and an other button to shout ( basically a special interaction button) and riddles with mediocre difficulty. For people who looks for a beautiful game and an emotional story ,Rime is a game they will enjoy.

RIME: Lost at Sea Lullaby
Jinxxa_Wolf2 February 2022
Rime was a very stirring game with highly evocative music, interesting puzzles, and lovely world setting. In a few ways, it slightly reminded me of the classic game Ico, though many games nowadays feature a young mysterious protagonist waking up in a strange land, climbing and puzzling their way through an expansive forgotten magical kingdom. Upon playing this, it was clear it was not just a rehash of usual themes however, though similarities certainly did exist. It reminded me of other narrative driven puzzle platformer games such as Ico, Journey, Abzû, The Witness, etc.

The game's strength lie in its subtle way of storytelling, emotionally soaring music and non-stressful gameplay. It was fun without being flashy or over-stimulating, melancholy without being too depressing, creative without being convoluted or cluttered. The gameplay itself was enjoyable and although somewhat simplistic, as were the puzzles, everything was all very interesting. I personally didn't find too many of the puzzles very challenging, but that ended up being just fine, as more complicated puzzles might have made the game more stressful and shifted the focus away from the story, art and music. Another thing was that I wished it was longer, especially in the end chapters. The game was roughly 4 hours long.

As for the graphics and the world building, everything was eye catching and memorable. The music was a big highlight for me. My only complaint is the story left a few questions unanswered. There clearly was a lot of symbolism and I was left wishing for more detailed explanations. I would have preferred more understanding and closure. Overall, it was a very moving and memorable game. Really enjoyed it.

STORY: 8/10 GAMEPLAY: 10/10 GRAPHICS: 10/10 ART DESIGN: 10/10 MUSIC: 10/10 OVERALL RATING: 9/10.

OK game but nothing more

Greetings from Lithuania.

"Rime" (2017) was pretty boring to me. While game play mechanics were pretty good, it kinda lacked any real involvement during the game and by that i mean plot. Basically you are going around the island (or not?) and solving some puzzles and finding keys to go to next place. That is it. Graphics were pretty good and i liked the outcome i beat the game but it was just a boring stuff.

Overall, "Rime" is a just an OK game at its best. I picked it up for free so i didn't lose anything.

It's a Promising Start & Finish, But a Mediocre Journey
sibulelemvayo31 March 2024
It can't be denied that Rime is a gorgeous game, with a beautiful art direction, atmosphere and soundtrack. The narrative premise and themes are also pretty interesting, but it's a bit of a chore to get to the good stuff.

I'm all for a narrative that takes its time to unfold or that is subtle in its storytelling, but as long as the journey and the moments in between are compelling enough. Which is unfortunately not the case - for me, anyways.

The gameplay is good enough to serve as an enjoyable game. The platforming, while easy, is honestly my favourite part of the gameplay just because of how smooth and consistent it is. The puzzles, however, are very inconsistent. There are times when puzzles are well made and thought out and then there are times when puzzles are little unclear and a bit tedious. For a gameplay loop that focuses on puzzles and platforming, Rime is a bit lacking.

But the story has its own issues in that its subtleties in storytelling and themes feel spacious and optional. The actual journey of getting to different story points isn't all that compelling, especially mixed with the slightly lacking gameplay.

Overall, Rime has a promising concept but a deprived and inconsistent execution that plays with your interest and disinterest a little too much.
