Shawn (James Roday) and Gus (Dule Hill) dive into a world that's equal parts mystery and melody to track down an escaped playwright mad man, Z (Anthony Rapp, "Rent"), who six years earlier was deemed criminally insane after locking a critic in a back room of the theatre that he burnt to the ground. Silly, but fun
5 August 2018 | by jenstariaSee all my reviews

Clearly some of the previous reviewers weren't paying attention to the time setting wise. It's obvious this musical special is set in the storyline before Shawn's lack of psychic ability is revealed to Juliet, and therefore before Chief Vick is suspended. Please don't count such minor technicalities as a con of the episode in your review as it's not a true negative of the episode itself and only proves you didn't pay attention.

As for the music, background, and entertainment in this special, I was amused and a bit entertained by all of it. It's definitely meant to be viewed as fun, enjoyable, and humorous throughout, up until the very end, and I personally thought the singing and choreography were cute. The stage work and costumes, in terms of appearance and relation to the setting of 19th century London, in the theater weren't bad either.
