Jacer Eid (Theeb) and his brother in the film Hussein Salameh are not professional actors. They live in Al Shakriyeh village in Wadi Rum where the film (and The Martian) were shot.
They were picked and trained by the director Naji Abu Nowar after spending months in the tribe.
Jordan's first nominated film at the Academy Awards.
"Theeb" which means "wolf" is a word which represents manhood in the bedouin culture.
The film premiere in Jordan took place in Wadi Rum, the location of the film and the area where the stars of the film live. The whole tribe came out to watch the film.
Jacir Eid (Theeb) is from the same tribe as Awda abu Tayeh, a leader and hero of the Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Empire. Awda lived near the Hejaz Railway and raided the Turks around the same film locations in 1916.
