- Migrants from Africa, Nepal, Cuba, China and Haïti make their way to Canada in search of a better life. Their journey often starts in South America and the treacherous route north crosses 10 countries, vast jungles and dangerous borders.
- With borders closing in Europe and the United States migrants undertake a long and dangerous trek across South and North America on their way to Canada. We follow, among others, an African family on this dangerous journey across ten countries. Risking their lives, the family traveled more than 20,000 kilometers. After first fleeing the Democratic Republic of Congo they reach Brazil, cross South America to Ecuador then north thru Columbia, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, all the way to Tijuana then to Montreal, Canada. Many other migrants follow this route, where a human life is worth just a few handfuls of dollars - often in the hands of powerful clandestine networks of people smugglers and cartels, and corrupt policemen or soldiers who control the borders. Congolese, Malians, Senegalese, Nepalese and Bangladeshis try to blend in with the flow of South American and Caribbean migrants. Some will never reach their destination. The most dangerous part of the journey is a vast stretch of jungle called the Darien Gap, the only way of getting from Colombia to Panama. After surviving their seven-month voyage, crossing eleven borders Rosette and her family were finally able to apply for asylum in Canada.—Peter John Ingles
