- Elena Gilbert: [on cell-phone] Please tell me I wasn't out of my mind leaving Damon in charge of Vampire Amnesia 101.
- Caroline Forbes: What did he say, exactly?
- Elena Gilbert: One text. "So far, so good." Which, in Damon-speak...
- Caroline Forbes: ...means that they probably devoured a troop of Girl Scouts by now.
- Elena Gilbert: Caroline...!
- Caroline Forbes: I'm kidding. Kind of. Although it's not uncommon for patients with retrograde amnesia or other traumatic brain injuries to turn volatile.
- Elena Gilbert: [chuckles] Okay, Dr. Forbes, since when do you know so much about amnesia?
- Caroline Forbes: It's possible that I studied up on my Chem, Bio-Chem, Applied Micro Bio, Molecular Bio and Grey's Anatomy. The real one and the television show.
- Elena Gilbert: You did all that for Stefan?
- Caroline Forbes: Of course I did. And I'm trying to impress Dr. Maxfield. I figure if I could get closer to him, i.e. into his Biology class, I could figure out why he covered up our roommate's murder-by-vampire. And it's also possible that I have a study buddy.
- [enters lab]
- Caroline Forbes: Hi, Dr. Maxfield! Are you ready to go study, Jesse?
- Elena Gilbert: Jesse? Dr. Maxfield's incredibly hot, funny and miraculously single lab assistant?
- Caroline Forbes: I'm dragging him to our hometown graveyard bell-ringing ceremony.
- Elena Gilbert: As in... creepy first date?
- Caroline Forbes: As in study date. I might as well ring a bell for Tyler and me, because our relationship is on its deathbed.
- Elena Gilbert: [finds Stefan and Damon having drink] And here I thought catching up on two centuries would be a drag.
- Stefan Salvatore: Remind me of your name... again.
- Elena Gilbert: Elena.
- Stefan Salvatore: Elena.
- [nods]
- Stefan Salvatore: Right.
- Elena Gilbert: [to Damon] You haven't told him about me?
- Damon Salvatore: [grimaces] Two hundred years is a long time.
- [smiles]
- Elena Gilbert: Right. Well...
- [takes swig from her drink]
- Elena Gilbert: So, Mr. So-Far-So-Good, Mr. I-Can-Handle-My-Brother, Mr. I-Know-What-I'm-Doing...
- [shakes her head]
- Damon Salvatore: Hey, I never said I know what I'm doing.
- Elena Gilbert: Mm.
- [picks up her cell-phone]
- Damon Salvatore: Who are you calling?
- Elena Gilbert: Bonnie. A witch did this to him, maybe a witch can undo it.
- Damon Salvatore: [has to stop Elena] I'm on top of it, sister. I've called about ten times, she hasn't called me back. I say until she does, let's just let Stefan be Stefan.
- [they look at Stefan leaving]
- Damon Salvatore: Fun, careless, drunk Stefan. Without a hundred years of vampire guilt on his shoulders.
- Elena Gilbert: That guilt came from a blood addiction that might still be hardwired into his brain.
- Damon Salvatore: You take one philosophy class, now you're the queen of nature versus nurture?
- Elena Gilbert: [looks back to see where Stefan is] Where did he go?
- Damon Salvatore: You don't see that cute little waitress anywhere, do you?
- Damon Salvatore: [after Stefan left] I think we just got dumped.
- Elena Gilbert: We need Bonnie. Why hasn't she called us back? It's so unlike her. He can't stay like this.
- Damon Salvatore: [gravely] Elena, Bonnie can't help us.
- Elena Gilbert: Did you talk to her? What did she say? There's gotta be something that she can do, I mean...
- [shakes her head]
- Elena Gilbert: She'll figure it out, she always does.
- [sighs]
- Damon Salvatore: [places his hands on Elena's shoulders] Bonnie's dead, Elena.
- Elena Gilbert: What?
- Damon Salvatore: She's dead. I'm sorry.
- [shock hits Elena]
- Stefan Salvatore: What's wrong?
- Caroline Forbes: It's Bonnie. My friend... Our... friend...
- [sighs]
- Caroline Forbes: She's dead.
- Stefan Salvatore: [has amnesia, has no recollection of Bonnie] Uh... what, uh... what happened?
- Caroline Forbes: Please don't ask. Because then I'm going to have to... try to come up with an answer, which means I'll have to actually think about it. And then I'll start to cry and I'm afraid I might not be able to stop.
