Maybe that's not the right words to describe it but it's something like that. This has to be my favorite episode of Sam & Cat ever. More so than even the latest one hour special. It was still funny and entertaining of course, but it got pretty serious towards the end. If you're like me who grew up with iCarly, AND you could understand Sam and her character and you paid attention to her development while also still able to love her despite her many flaws like Carly Shay did, Sam will really get to you in this episode. Props to Jennette McCurdy by the way! She's always been able to show off her abilities in other roles before her Nickelodeon days (which actually involved lots of crying based on some of the characters she played who you could obviously understand why if you look up some of her more serious roles) and she doesn't always get to show, as Sam, another side of her. Sometimes Sam shows a more heroic side of her like in #MagicATM, or even iRescue Carly and iBattle Chip (both from iCarly of course). Sometimes Sam is shown to not always be the person people are familiar with (like beauty pageants and falling in love). And at least twice we've seen Sam really sad on iCarly (and it was done for comedic effect either to not make the scene too serious or because it was just part of Sam's character to be upset about something - like working). But in this episode we get to see her REALLY sad about something. Something I think makes us laugh (for a tiny moment) uncomfortably. Cat invents a holiday called Yay Day. There's no official date, but everyone is to come over on one Saturday night and celebrate and exchange gifts. Sam is aware of Cat's snooping so she doesn't get a gift for her until she promises she won't snoop for her present to her. Cat breaks that promise and looks through a present from Sam which was a bottle of mouth wash and a bottle of foot wash (in a bottle like mouth wash). Upset with her present, she gives Sam's present away to the possibly-not homeless man Herbert (a nice black leather jacket) and gets a dirty pillow from him which she gives to Sam as a present. Sam shows after she gets the gift that she isn't too happy about the present. Everyone else gets their gifts, and the mouth wash and foot wash is revealed to be Goomer's (the tags for the present were switched accidentally), not Cat's (who revealed her anger for it). Sam gives Cat a special kind of jump rope she wanted (and a card admitting that she does like Cat despite not liking many people) and too upset to stick around, she leaves to go be by herself. Cat finds her sitting on a bench watching people trip over a crack on the sidewalk (which even for Sam, doesn't make her really crack up). Sam tells Cat that she never had any really good gifts growing up in her family such as a shovel with meatballs when she was nine (which back then she hoped she could plant a meatball tree from it). Sam realizes Cat snooped and Cat apologizes for it. The episode doesn't actually end too happily as Sam shows she's still not too happy about Cat's present to her. Watching this episode made me feel like, despite how Sam is, people should be entitled to one little bit of something that can make anyone happy. Even earlier in the episode you can see she doesn't really like presents when Cat asks her what she finds is typically special about Christmas and birthdays (she answers anything but presents). A part of me wishes I could give Sam a present. If I was a little kid and I had no clue Jennette McCurdy was the actor and Sam Puckett was just the fictional character, the child inside me would want to mail to the network a present for Sam. That's how much I love this episode. I love a lot of Sam & Cat episodes regardless of whether or not it can touch my heart, but this was by far my favorite Sam & Cat episode PERIOD.
