Lizzie, a strange young woman with a Jane Austen obsession, is an elective mute following a mugging who communicates via writing on a tablet. Whilst waiting at the surgery to see Jas she sees the staff going through their daily motions but argues with Jas, who accuses her of not trying to regain her speech. Lizzie faints and imagines herself as the heroine of 'Pride and Prejudice' with Karen as her mother, Jimmi as vicar Collins, Mandy as sister Lydia, Zara as Miss Bingley, Mrs Tembe Lady De Burgh and Daniel as a handsome, saturnine Darcy. Figures from other Austen books, 'Emma' and 'Northanger Abbey' also intrude, with Emma Reid a splendid Miss Bates. However Jas is unable to wake Lizzie from her trance. Written by don @ minifie-1
