- After a tragic accident, a young girl struggles to maintain perspective as she treads in a shallow pool of obligation. Spiraling into the heights and depths of despair, she stops participating in the world in the usual way.
- A young college student and her boyfriend share a paradisiacal connection. When her boyfriend is killed by a hit-and-run, the girl loses her center, and recedes deep into the darkest corners of despair. She starts losing grip on reality when, after a disturbing echo that shakes her inner world, a distorted image of her late boyfriend appears in a dark liquid before her. Reaching down to him, she ponders how hope is a demonic force that disguises her somber reality and pulls her down deeper into despair as she yearns for the impossible. Fearing that she is losing her Self, she breaks free from the pull of hope in a move that shows she is still mentally stable, but has now lost everything. In the seasons that follow, her closest friend, Sydney-a hyperactive dancer in the making-tries to help her move on. Unable to comprehend the weighty despair that pervades her friend's entire atmosphere, Sydney becomes a distant nuisance. Wanting to achieve the lighthearted simplicity that makes up Sydney, the girl listens to Sydney's urges and attempts to move on. After opening up to horribly inappropriate romantic ventures, a meaningless joke proves to be the final affront that decides the fate of her being in the world.—Anonymous
