Excellent cooking show and competition
franstaljaard27 August 2022
Its the rainbow nation South Africa dreamt of cooking together. No racisms at all. All the nationalities in South Africa shared laughs and tears and hugs and dreams.

Class cooking by all the contestants. Excellent production and showcasing the diversity of South Africa people and landscape.

Excellent show for the world to see the unity and bbq skills from South Africans.

All the lodges shown are exceptional and can cater for international guests. Proud South African production. Cant wait for the next season to show on Netflix.

The judges and all the sponsors help to create a cooking show to showcase top level cooking. Enjoyable by all. Introducing a few new braaing gadgets and methods to me.

Solid reality TV with SA flavor
RhetoricalDeviant12 February 2023
Compelled to write a review after seeing it trash talked by others. First time watching this show as season 7 was now available on Netflix.

Good to see that it's its own style and rules, not just a carbon copy of other international formulas, some fresh surprises. Both cooking, entertainment aspects are present, but it would be nice to see more details of the cooking and to be able to try it out for ourselves at home.

Also, great to see the show reward all contestants and reward them well! Some others spoke about favoritism according to race, this is completely unfounded and the judges are fair.

Heartbraking

Warning: Spoilers
This show. Hurtful. I was excited to watch an African cooking show but this is not it. It's curated to turn people of colour into culinary caricatures. Pastries, seafood, bread... Bread? It's like asking my grandmother to impress the judges with shepherds pie. Disappointing and uninspiring cooking show. I'd like to see a judge comment on good pap in England...

Apartheid in a cooking show
tinajonesgwynn19 July 2022
I too was looking forward to watching this cooking competition in beautiful South Africa but I truly felt like I was watching apartheid play out in a cooking show. It was painful. The judges and host on Season 7 were clearly biased toward the white teams and gave them several advantages. The black members of the teams just looked beaten down and disheartened with all of the harsh criticism given to them while the white teams were treated so gently. Very disappointing and frustrating.

Biased judges.

The show itself is very interesting to watch. But the judges are clearly biased based on race. Even when the black, colored and indian guys clearly outperform the opposition, the judges always find a way to eliminate them. I still. Benny Masekwameng is forever acting like an Uncle Tom. He never goes against what Pete Goffe-Wood says. They should just make Pete the only judge. And I also feel that judges should be rotated in every season. Because the current judges have reached a point of no return with their unfair discrimination. It's sad really. But the Cooking side of the is really great to watch.

Great concept, less than average production
hannesishv25 March 2023
This show is almost painful to watch even though it has an amazing concept and fresh competition format. First off the host is bone dry. Probably good at many things but hosting a tv show is not one of them. The production is very confusing, everything just happens with little to no structure behind it and is very frustrating to watch. Camera angles miss most of what I really want to see and most of each episode is filled with shots that don't contribute anything to the viewer experience. I'm dissapointed as its a very cool competition and could do a lot for the South African tourism industry but instead feels like a poor reflection on the film industry. Couldn't force myself to watch past season 3.
