Poppy Montgomery: Carrie Wells

Quotes

  • Mayor Beverly : The people who depend on us are expecting us to make the tough choices. Which is why, with all due respect, I believe, in the 21st century, it takes more than a village; it takes a city. And in the case of New York, the greatest city on Earth.

    [applause and murmurs of agreement]

Mayor Beverly : Thank you. Thank you for your continued support. And a special thank you to Ron Skinner for hosting this event. Please, buy one of his apartments. But if you don't, you can always donate the $80 million to my campaign.

Joanne Webster : [laughter and applause]  Darn, I left my checkbook at home.

Carrie Wells : You know, I looked at one of these apartments. It wasn't for me; not enough windows.

  • Eliot Delson : Carrie, may I say how lovely you look.

Carrie Wells : Oh! Well, thank you, Eliot.

Eliot Delson : And your plus one.

Joanne Webster : Why, thank you, Eliot. I believe that's the closest you've ever come to delivering a genuine compliment.

Eliot Delson : Easy, Jo, it was anything but genuine.

Carrie Wells : Okay, why don't you two just kiss and make up?

  • Eliot Delson : Did you guys hear the mayor? He insists we show up and then doesn't even acknowledge Major Crimes.

Carrie Wells : Yes, but he did take credit for all of our hard work.

Eliot Delson : Ah, well, I suppose getting a shot at Ron Skinner's legendary Bordeaux collection is worth it. Well, that and these fabulous crumbly things. I think we should be honored that the mayor invited us. "Should" being the operative word. The truth is, you're right; I wouldn't want to be trapped in a room with either of them for more than four minutes.

  • Al Burns : How's life at Chez Skinner?

Carrie Wells : There's still hope for some excitement.

Al Burns : Eliot okay with Webster taking my place?

Carrie Wells : Yeah! You know how Jo and Eliot love each other.

Al Burns : You know, if I bail now, I could be there in fifteen minutes.

Carrie Wells : No, you can't. You're the groomsman, Al. I know you want to rub elbows with the mayor, but your loyalty is with Peter and Lacey today.

Al Burns : Going solo to this wedding was a big mistake. I'd make you dance with me if you were here.

Carrie Wells : Aw. But I don't dance.

Al Burns : Okay. I guess I'll just have to dance with Lacey's sister Andrea. She's had a little crush on me for a while, if you recall. You remember her? Of course you remember her, she's beautiful. Even I remember her.

    [the phone line beeps]

    Al Burns : Carrie?

  • Ron Skinner : Go ahead, dazzle me with that memory of yours. What do you know about me?

Carrie Wells : You don't need me...

Ron Skinner : Please. Show me your gift.

Carrie Wells : Okay. Ronald Skinner, married Olivia Francis May 1997; divorced April 2000. Married again in 2002, divorced again in 2005. Married Melody in 2009 and divorced Melody in, well, 2009. The "Post" reported the reason for your disharmony was infidelity; yours. Again.

Ron Skinner : Hmm. You know, I'm on the lookout for my next bride.

    Carrie Wells : Oh!

Ron Skinner : I miss married life.

Carrie Wells : See, I think... you miss cheating.

Ron Skinner : Fiery. I like that.

Carrie Wells : Uh-oh, careful; your neighbors will see.

Ron Skinner : Uh, no... uh, no looky-looky. I spent millions in state-of-the-art security windows.

    Carrie Wells : Meaning what?

Ron Skinner : Meaning... I value my privacy, Carrie.

    Carrie Wells : Oh.

Ron Skinner : And I think we should take advantage of that privacy while we have the chance.

    Carrie Wells : You're lucky I'm unarmed.

  • Joanne Webster : $80 million for an apartment, and I have yet to find a bathroom.

Carrie Wells : So, Joanne, Ronald here was, um... just finishing up his tour.

Ron Skinner : In fact, I was... finished. You two can show yourselves out.

Joanne Webster : What it something I said?

  • Carrie Wells : That was a gunshot.

Joanne Webster : Yeah, I know the caterers were bad, but still, this is...

Carrie Wells : My phone's completely crashed.

Joanne Webster : [checking her own]  Well, mine, too.

Carrie Wells : We have to go see what's going on.

  • Carrie Wells : Listen to me, I don't have much time. There's gunmen; they may have taken over the building. I'm on the roof with Jo. They haven't found us yet, but they have ten hostages that I've seen, and they've already shot one.

Al Burns : Eliot, Skinner, and the mayor are trapped in an elevator. The man claiming responsibility says he's gonna drop the elevator if he isn't paid $100 million within the hour.

Carrie Wells : What? Al, who's doing this?

Al Burns : We don't know, but he's seeing everything going on outside. Don't... please, don't be a hero. You're outmanned and outgunned. Stay hidden until we find a way into the building.

Carrie Wells : No, listen to me, Al. If-If you try to breach the building, you'll get us all killed, I guarantee it.

  • Al Burns : We're running low on time and options.

Carrie Wells : You have one option. You have me.

Al Burns : You think you saw the guy in charge?

Carrie Wells : Maybe, maybe, I-I don't know.

Al Burns : Think. Just... just think, Carrie.

Carrie Wells : [remembering the party]  Two of the gunmen, they were at the party. They were talking to a guy, Caucasian, early 40s, maybe six foot, bald, he was wearing blue-tinted glasses.

Al Burns : I'll see if we can get a hit off that; you lay low.

Carrie Wells : Al, I got ten hostages, four terrorists, and three people trapped in an elevator. I gotta get 'em out. I can't lay low.

Al Burns : They'll drop the elevator before you get near 'em.

Carrie Wells : Wait, wait, wait. What happens if we cut the power?

Al Burns : Right, maybe we activate the elevator's emergency brake. All right. I'll get on that. Listen to me, these guys aren't messing around. Do what you have to, but I need you to walk out of that building, for me.

  • Joanne Webster : That pastry chef is going to bleed out soon; I have got to help him.

Carrie Wells : No, it is too dangerous. You will get yourself killed. You stay with me.

Joanne Webster : I can do more good as a hostage, and you work better alone.

Carrie Wells : [reluctantly]  All right, but you do not antagonize the bad guys. Jo, I'm serious.

    Joanne Webster : Antagonize? Moi?

  • Al Burns : Jay found out who we're dealing with. Former banker named Jonathan Brody. He's a nut, and his stunts have gotten more and more violent. If he's threatening hostages, I'd take him seriously.

Carrie Wells : All right. Well, it's time to get everybody out, then.

Al Burns : I was afraid you were gonna say that. You got a plan?

Carrie Wells : Oh, you know, my usual. I'll improvise.

Al Burns : I was afraid you were gonna say that, too.

  • Jonathan 'Alpha Omega' Brody : I noticed you at the party. I'm so pleased you stuck around.

Carrie Wells : Yeah, well, I never like to leave a party before last call. Oh... bet you wish you could say the same about your hostages. Party poopers.

Jonathan 'Alpha Omega' Brody : Well done.

[running her through facial recognition and getting a match]

Jonathan 'Alpha Omega' Brody : Oh... but who needs them when I've got one of New York's finest? And from what I gather, perhaps the finest of New York's finest. Carrie Wells. I'm in the presence of greatness.

Carrie Wells : I wish I could say the same, Omega. More like an iota.

Jonathan 'Alpha Omega' Brody : You know your Greek. Well, then you also know that I am the first and the last. The beginning... and the end.

Carrie Wells : Well, that's one way of putting it. Another is, um, oh, deranged psycho.

  • Jonathan 'Alpha Omega' Brody : These demerits on your file make sense. Insubordination, oh... conduct unbecoming. That's a quality we share. The established order longs to control us, but the tyrant powers we bow to have outlived their time, rather like the Titans of old. They need to die so that a new order can be born.

Carrie Wells : [to his goon]  Is-is he for real?

Jonathan 'Alpha Omega' Brody : But only but cutting away the dead and useless can there be new life. A new beginning for this system. For all of us.

Carrie Wells : A new beginning. What do you want, Omega?

Jonathan 'Alpha Omega' Brody : You'll never know. Sorry, Carrie. Like Icarus, you soared high, oh, so high. But your hubris, thinking that you could defeat me, has led to your fall. And what a long, glorious fall it will be. Take her.

[she struggles as his goon grabs her]

Jonathan 'Alpha Omega' Brody : Let her test her wings.

  • Carrie Wells : Hey, boys.

    Eliot Delson : Carrie.

Carrie Wells : So, listen. They've, uh, wired a bomb to the cable up here. We gotta go.

Ron Skinner : It's, uh... it's my building. I-I go first.

Eliot Delson : Whatever happened to "the developer goes down with the development"?

  • Al Burns : I needed you to walk out of that building, and you did.

Carrie Wells : Well, sometimes I obey your orders.

    Al Burns : Sometimes.

Carrie Wells : Yeah. You should've taken me to that wedding.

Al Burns : Yeah, you're telling me.

  • Jay Lee : We looked into some of Skinner's finances. So, get this; there's a good reason why Skinner couldn't come up with the money. He doesn't have anything close to $100 million. Not even $10 million.

Tanya Sitkowsky : Skinner Plaza's way over-budget, and Skinner's overleveraged himself. He's pretty much cash-broke.

Al Burns : Dangerous game he was playing bluffing.

Carrie Wells : Yeah, but if we can get into Skinner's finances, then so can Omega. Which means he knew Skinner didn't have any money.

Al Burns : Why hijack a building and try to extort a fortune from a man who doesn't have one?

  • Carrie Wells : What could Brody do to temporarily shut down the security systems en masse, and then turn them on again all at once?

Tanya Sitkowsky : Well, when the systems switch back on, they'd be vulnerable while the passwords and protocols reboot.

Jay Lee : Yeah, but why would he break into something he's already in?

Al Burns : If Brody just wanted the power off, why not let us kill it when we tried earlier?

Carrie Wells : Because Skinner Plaza was never his goal. His aim is to get the city to shut off the entire downtown power grid. I mean, look at us, look! We're surrounded by the world's biggest banks, right?

Jay Lee : I told you, it's "Die Hard"!

Carrie Wells : Not quite. He needs the power to come back on so he can put his computer virus into the system. He's not trying to steal money. He's trying to reset the whole financial system by knocking it out altogether.

Al Burns : Then we have to keep the power off 'till we find him.

Tanya Sitkowsky : No, that's impossible. It's not like a lightbulb. The grid's got too much power. You can't stop it from turning on once it's started.

Carrie Wells : All right, what would Brody need to do to get his virus into the system?

Jay Lee : It's just software. All he needs is a laptop and a cell signal, right? He could be anywhere.

Al Burns : There must be some clue somewhere.

  • Jonathan 'Alpha Omega' Brody : A simple press of a button, and I change the world.

Al Burns : A simple click of the trigger, and your day gets even worse.

Jonathan 'Alpha Omega' Brody : The ancients believed that fame is immortality. And I'm about to become very, very famous.

Carrie Wells : You like your Greek myths, don't you? You know the story about the Gordian knot?

Jonathan 'Alpha Omega' Brody : Of course. A knot so intricate, no one could untie it.

Carrie Wells : Until Alexander the Great came and cut it in half with a single stroke.

[she shoots his computer, and Al shoots him in the shoulder as he moves for his gun]

Carrie Wells : Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best.
