The episode was a good one until the very end. Why the perpetrator, who knew that the so-called business tycoon could never meet his demands, pulled off this charade is muddled at best.

That being said, having Eliot, the mayor and the tycoon stuck in an elevator by the mastermind of the plot was intriguing.

The benefit that had been staged had Carrie invited. Al laments that he should have asked her to accompany him to the wedding he had been invited to. Instead, she and our emergency medical examiner get mixed up in the situation and try to evade the perpetrators who have also taken people hostage.

Al shows his true feelings here and Carrie finds, as usual, an excellent way to save the day.

Okay, I'm just getting used to the new back up team when one appears from season one and Al and Carrie both ( without knowing she was involved) neither acknowledge her or even show any surprise that she is there on the phone helping the new team.

And where's her mum gone?

What did not bother me was that the hacker-mastermind, Alpha Omega, pulled off his scam even knowing that the building owner was actually broke. He must have counted on the tycoon not wanting to admit that he was broke. What Alpha really wanted to do was let the government shut down the grid so that when it came back up he could launch a virus into all financial computers. Not sure this would have done permanent harm because of the tendency nowadays for everyone--especially savvy people like financial webmasters--to back everything up.

What annoyed me was the usual trope of having Carrie remember everything she needs to. She needed a weapon to defend herself so she suddenly remembered that she had seen someone put a bottle in a planter that happened to be at hand when she needed it. The portrayal of her ability is always way too convenient. It's as if she could remember something even if she didn't see it.

The other annoying thing was the several references to the movie "Die Hard." Once was too many, and yet they did it five or six times, at least. Nevertheless, the Die-Hard-like plot was more entertaining than most episodes of this or any other show. This episode was elevated by its stealing from the best. They just should not have felt the need to keep underscoring the steal.
