Mel and His Movies (2013)
*** (out of 4)
This nineteen-minute interview with Mel Brooks has him discussing his film THE PRODUCERS. If you've seen THE MAKING OF THE PRODUCERS then you're not going to hear anything new here as the main stories are repeated but Brooks is still quite entertaining to listen to. He talks about his original idea for the film and how everyone turned him down due to the Springtime for Hitler skit. From here we get into the casting, the production and the eventual release of the movie. If you're a fan of Brooks and of the film then you'll enjoy this featurette since there are some very interesting stories about the production. This one here also covers the Broadway play a bit, which wasn't the case with the earlier documentary since it was made before Brooks made the film into a Broadway show.
