Supposedly based on true stories.
Nora's name means "Not Our Real Aunt", alluding to Ophelia's suspicion that she is not actually related to her or Oscar.
The "Lawn Justice" stories originated from a series of posts on multiple text-based websites, with the writer asking for help in bizarre situations. Ophelia's name came from the term "OP", or "Original Poster". Shelly's name came from "SH", which means "Shaking Head" (expressing disbelief in stupidity). The names "Oscar" and "Silas" were made to help the listener/viewer keep track of who was related to whom (Oscar being Ophelia's brother, Silas being Shelly's boyfriend) through their similar initials.
"LawN Order" was originally meant to be the title of the series, but it was scrapped to avoid confusion with Law & Order (1990).
